Hi Veronica
Am I right in thinking that "your" Thomas Jones is the one in 10 Redwood
Row , Bedwellty, Monmouth in 1881? and not one of the many other Thomas
Jones married to a Sarah??
I would think it is very unlikely that Pembrey would be at all likely as
the entry shows a county of Pembroke and not entry for the town.
I'm intrigued to know why you have "given up" on Pembrokeshire. The
census entry says Pembroke, Wales which means somewhere in the whole
county as opposed to Pembroke St mary , pembroke , Wales or something
similar which would mean the town of Pembroke.
As there are quite a few Thomas Jones born around that time if you told
me what criteria you used to reject them maybe I could assist.
I have the 1851 index for a large part of Pembokeshire do you know any
other information at all? e.g parents names, brothers, sister?
Could Richard , William or David be one of the father's names? (as they
are the children)
Also did the name change to Jones from John or Johns (that has happened
in some of mine)
The marriage certificate of Thomas and Sarah should give you more info.
I would guess the marriage took place somewhere in Glamorgan rather than
Pembroke as it is often in the brides place. Do you know any more about
her family? Do you know where in Glamorganshire she was born??
You would need to go through St catherine's index to find possible
references for the marriage but if you could identify the place rather
than just the county you would have more chance of picking the right one
as there would be quite a few that matched Thomas Jones with sarah Evans
as these are very common names.
You say he was a Thomas lloyd Jones so that info must have come from
some other source than the 1881 census. Could that give you some more
clues??
Let me know if you have any other info at all that might identify him in
the 1851 index. and I will have a look at what I have here.
Cheers
Pat

I have been chasing my gggrandfather Thomas LLoyd Jones born 1838/9 in
Pembroke so the 1881 census tells me,after no luck in that county I am
wondering if it should have been PEMBRY
My Thomas ,was a stonemason and moved eventually to Ebbw Vale in
monmouthshire. He married a Sarah Evans bor glamorgan 1840.They leased land
from drysiog estate ,building houses and renting them.
