Sorry Linda the first relevant UK census was 1841, but the first reliable
census was 1851, your best bet is Parish Registers.

I've seen this article about the census, but since my search is
in
DAVIES/DAVIS, and thought they were Dutch/Irish, and don't know from where
they came over, I never considered Welsh nationality. Also, I need census
in or before 1809, when my first recored DAVIES was born in
Kentucky/Tennesse USA. Do you know of any?
