Hi all.
I wondered if anyone can help with my question?
In the 1871 census i have a Hugh Griffiths bor 1817 in Lambedr, (I don,t
know if Carmarthenshire covers this area, but worth a ask)
On Hugh,s marriage certificate it says is father is William a farmer (the
marriage took place in Brynmawr Crickhowell). on Ancestry a tree there has
his father as William and mother as Francis, i am not convinced this is
the right family, On Hugh,s marriage certificate it does not state his father
deceased, yet this tree has Hugh,s father deceased in 1842.
Would love some help with this, as i do not want to follow a line that has
no conection.
Margaret Griffiths

hi to the list :-) what a lovely welcome Pauline .. thank you ....
My
area
is slightly to the left of Davies and Jones in that I'm researching
those
most uncommon names [hah-hah-hah] Thomas, Williams and Evans in the
Kidwelly
/ Burry Port area. ....I have Jones' in there too of course..... I'll be
sure to post once I have my plan of attack ... fingers crossed - someone
could be looking at the same lines.... Oh and the link offered by
Richard,
for the directory.. is wonderful ! Thanks!!
cheers

Hi Martin
I believe this to be the family from 1851 census...having looked at 1841
Llanddowror, schedule 44 page 12, dist 5b
Abode Not Given
Mary Phillips head wid 53 woolspinners wife born Laugharne
Mary dau 14 born Llanddowror
Margaret dau 11 born Llanddowror
Ruth dau 9 born Llanddowror
Anne dau 6 born Llanddowror
know the ages are slightly less than they should be, but maybe she had her
reasons.....
If this is them, I have this marriage....
1823 16th December Laugharne parish church
David Phillips of Amroth Pembs and Mary Thomas of Laugharne
What do you think?
Cannot find a burial for David in Llanddowror.....or thereabouts

Subject: [CMN-L] Phillips family in Llandowror
Dear all,
My first posting so my apologies if I make any mistakes of etiquette.
I am trying to trace my dad's family and have got as far as David
Phillipps, who shows on the 1841 census at being at the Factory,
Llandowror, as a wool carder aged 40. There is also his wife Mary aged
40,
and children John, Sarah, Enoch, Mary, Margaret, Ruth and Howell (my
own
great-great grandfather). I have found Howell and Enoch in the later
censuses, but I can't find any of the others (for certain) on the 1851
census so I don't have exact birth years or places of birth for David
and
Mary. I believe Mary and David married in 1831 at St Peter's
Carmarthen,
but I can't be sure.
I'd like to find out more about David, and try and get back further. I
live in Surrey and have done all I can through the web resources. So do
you think there will be anything of help for me at the Carmarthenshire
Records Office? As it would mean an couple of days off a very busy job
to
go down there, I'd like to gauge whether it is worth a trip.
Getting stuck like this is very frustrating - on my mum's side from
Herefordshire I've made it back to the late 1500s, but there are so many
Phillipps in that part of Carmarthenshire (I would guess taking the name
of the Phillipps from Picton who were the local land owners).
Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated!
Martin Phillips

Dear Pauline,
That does look like the right group to me. The marriage date would also
make
sense with an oldest son in the 1841 census born c.1827 (the 1833 marriage
I
had always seemed late to me, although I know it happened!). As for the
ages, I've got people all over my family tree whose birth date and place
varies every 10 years.
Thank you very much for your help. I will have some more digging to do now.
Martin
