Hello all,
Another question.... oh so many!
Hannah TITUS married David Rees in 1829 at Llanllawddog Church, but
eventually lived with her son William TITUS and family on Waunfawr farm in
Llanfynydd. She kept her name and the children all took the name of TITUS.
Was this common to take the female name as a family surname?
According to the IGI, Hannah ( Annah) TITUS was 'registered' as baptised in
Llanllawddog church about Easter 1807, David REES being the person named on
the IGI as the person by whom registered. She was born, possibly in PWLL of
Carmarthen, which I presume was the village very near to Llanllawddog
according to my old map book). Could it have been possible for her not to
have been baptised, shortly after birth, even though it appears that she
lived a short distance away from Llanllawddog. I'm not sure when this
church was built.
It seems that she was very loyal to the church in Llanllawddog as she is
buried there in a row of 4/5 graves, all TITUS. She died in Waunfawr,
Llanfynydd which is quiet a journey even in a car nowadays so would have
been a long journey in 1892 when she died. Llanfynydd has a churchyard of
it's own which is 'just down the road' so to speak from Waunfawr, but she is
buried in Llanllawddog miles away.
Any help in finding her baptism and parents would be greatly appreciated.
