Hi Amber
I hope you're rich - if not forget it.
Neither of the census' you are after are available in any compact form
such
as the LDS 1881 CDs.
The LDS sell a 3 counties 1851 (Devon, Norfolk & Warwickshire) for about
£6.
Many FHS' have indexed the 1851 for their areas - and some sell
the
indexes - for instance Berkshire FHS sell the index in booklets for £2-3
each - some 15 or so booklets comprise the set.
Some FHS' have made similar progress with the 1861, but this is less
common.
I don't know of any way you can buy the 1851 & 1861
microfilms - though
they
exist in many a local library and CRO. The number you need would
make it
an
expensive procurement.
** The Scottish ones can be bought as
microfilm reels, but at around £50 per
reel
is really only for organisations, not individuals.
FreeCen is an organised attempt to make all the census' available
as an
online source - expect to wait fro a few years for that to be available.
The 1891 (England & Wales)is available on fiche at £3.75 per fiche (which
worked out at loads of money for 487+ fiche covering Durham alone).
1891 Scotland is available online at scottish origins - £6 to access for
24
hours and up to 30 downloads.
*** What is online is only the
INDEX to the census. You can't look at
complete households online.
1901 will be available online (they promise) 1 Jan 2002. Pay per
view
again.
The England and Wales online 1901census project is different from the
Scottish one which will appear on Origins. The latter is still not clarified
as to
its format.
Gordon.
