Hello Pauline,
David Jones was killed on 31 December 1915, since it was during the War
I don't know if there'll be a report in the papers but there was as
inquest. It was on 'my things to do' list whenever I'm in Llanelli on a
weekday!! If you can find anything I would be grateful.
I'm not sure where Porthdafen Pit was either- on the d/c it gives it as
Penprys Line,Porthdafen Colliery, Llangennech. The family lived in Dafen
so I assume it was in the Dafen/ Llangennech area.
I've been really suprised at how many small pits there were in Llanelli
itself. David was a colliery roadman at the time of his death and he was
'accidentally run over by journey of trams of colliery railways' and
died of 'internal injuries'. I've also been told that 2 of his sons
also died in pit accidents but I haven't found those yet. The inquest by
the way was held on 3 January 1916- 'certificate received from W.W.
Brodie Deputy Coroner for the Liberty of Kidwelly'
regards,
