We have found the following data on a David Jones and wife Phebe
Griffith Jones of Meidrym, St. Clears Parish but have reached the conclusion
that they are probably NOT our St. Clears Joneses. We contribute it in hope
that these Joneses belong to someone on the list.
From Kay Schorah: Found a SARAH Jones born 1 Jan. 1825, baptized 26 Feb
1825 born Mydrim, father David Jones & mother Phebe Griffith, abode listed
as Clyngwyn,
occupation Farmer, James Phillips minister.
Other children born to this couple, MARY born 7 Sept 1828 baptized 29 Nov
1828
born Mydrim.
PHEBE Jones born 7 March 1822, born Meidrym, bapt. 8 May 1822 to David &
Phebe Jones, spinster Griffith. Checked the LDS library catalogue, and this
is the only film available on microfilm for the years 1822 - 1834. The
church is the Bethlehem Chapel, St. Clears, Carmarthen: Independent; the
Ministers of a Congregation of Dissenting Protestants.
Pat Powell contributed this: I don't have any marriage info for that
period.
However I am currently looking at Mydrim in 1841 and in a household
called Clyngwyn - presumably a farm name .
Phebe Jones 55 Farmer
David Jones 25
Phebe Jones 15
Mary Jones 13
All born in Carmarthenshire
There are no relationships or marital status shown in the 1841 census so
I can't tell if Husband is away or dead.
There is no Sarah at home .
There is a Sarah Jones in another household Hilcoed (or Kilcoed) She is
the right age (15) but as the household is another Jones family then she
could be a daughter of theirs (William Jones 45 and Sarah Jones 35 )
The rest of the family are
Mary 15
Elizabeth 13
Anne 13
Choice 11 (I suppose this was meant to be Joyce maybe??)
Thomas 8
William 3
Also
Anne Harries 20 F.S.
Hannah Jones 15 F.S.
This from Gerry Lewis: Meidrim is a parish and a village.
Clungwyn appears to be a farm at SN 297 179 and is nearer to St Clears
than Meidrim village. It's a mile or so north east of St Clears and a
couple of hundred yards north of the railway line from Carmarthen to
Whitland and points west.
This last item from Kay Schorah: I found a David Jones and Phebe
Harries married Oct. 10, 1820, Pembrey.
