Hi Gerry
Yes most of the river has been piped and is not visable now. and runs under
the town unseen, it disappears under the Falcon Bridge, and is not seen
again until it appears upstream from the North Dock which has also undergone
rebuilding, infact it is now a lake, and if I am correct I think the river
has been redirected around the dock to run directly into the sea.
Maybe someone else on the list will give us a better idea of what has been
done around that area.
Regards
Richard James

Hi Richard
It's a wonder I didn't catch Weill's Disease (spread by rat's urine), as
I used to play in the River Lleidi, albeit a bit further upstream from
the town centre, near where the abattoir used be - I think this is near
where the Hospital is now. There used to be (and probably still is) a
deep pool where some of the kids used to swim.
I guess this will probably now be full of abandoned supermarket trolleys
and bicycles.
South Wales was a bit grim in those days - I remember looking down from
the train at the River Tawe when crossing Landore viaduct (just outside
Swansea) and seeing the bright orange water. Llansamlet was full of
small steelworks where I presume they made special metals using chrome,
lead and other nasty elements, which accounted for the colour of the
river.
