Hi Robert,
From Major Francis Jones " Historic Houses of Pembrokeshire and
Their
Families":
GLANDOVAN, Cilgerran.
This place was orginally called Glendyfan. The mansion is on a wooded
slope about a mile south of the town of Cilgerran. It was the home of
the Vaughan family descended from the north Wales chieftain Osbwn
Wyddel. In the late 17th century the Vaughan heiress married a Stedman
of Strata Florida and the Glandovan estate passed to that family. Jane
Stedman was the daughter and heiress of James Stedman. She married the
barrister William Gower of Boughton St. Johns, Worcs., M.P. for Ludlow
for 1689 and he came to live at Glandovan. Gower died there in 1723 and
his wife was the sole executrix of his will. They had ten children, the
third was Abel Gower who succeeded to Glandovan. Six more generations
succeeded. In 1824 Robert Frederic Gower purchased Castle Malgwyn near
Llechryd which became the main residence. In 1948 Erasmus William Gower
sold Castle Malgwyn. In May 1984 it was owned by Mr. David Frost, land
agent of Haverfordwest.
From Major Francis Jones "Historic Carmarthenshire Homes and
Their
Families":
LLANDAWK(E), Llandawke.
The house is about 1 1/4 miles west of Laugharne. The earliest owners
was the medieval family of de Londres. According to one source Edward
Stedman, gent., of Drevor, Mont., stated in December 1700 that he owned
'the capital messuage called Llandawke' which he mortgaged in 400 pounds
to George Owens, gent., of the Middle temple.
LLETTY GARIAD, Llandeilo (Fawr).
This is on the south banks of the Towy and opposite the old Dynevor
Castle which is marked as 'Lovelodge' on Kitchin's Map 1754. John
Stedman of Dolygaer, Brecon, who married Blanche, widow of William
Phillips of Llettygariad was High Sheriff of Carmarthen in 1624.
LLWYN Y WERMWOOD, Llanycrwys.
This place is about 1 1/4 miles south of Llanycrwys. It sits on high
ground west of the afon Twrch and the old Sarn Helen route. It is the
home of several ancient families. Rhys Gwyn ap Morgan of 'Llwyn hermon'
married Anne daughter of John Stedman (d. 1613).
PENYLAN, Llansawel.
This is a quarter mile south of the village. In the mid 17th century
Dame Mary Lloyd (nee Stedman of Ystrad Fflur) widow of Sir Marmaduke
Llloyd of Maesyfelin, Lampeter, who died in 1651. Her daughter Anne had
married Nicholas Williams of Rhydodin which may be why she came to
Penylan where she died in 1663.
Find nothing close to Cillcinnen. Regards, Elaine.
