Dear Richard, Pauline et al;
After a couple of failed tries and false starts I'll try again. My
apologies for sending mail with a bad address etc. I'll get the hang of
it! Hope I didn't gum up the system too much.
I have been lurking so it's time now to ask for your advice and help.
I am searching for information on my great-grandfather, Isaac JONES, and
his parents, Evan and Margaret JONES.
What I know from Isaac's gravestone (in Pittston, PA) and other records
is as follows:
Isaac was born before June 30, 1835 (he was 35 when he died on June 30,
1870). He was the son of Evan and Margaret JONES. His stone states that
he was a "native of Carmarthenshire, S. Wales" and mentions "Neuaddy,
Pont y Berem" (thanks to previous help I have located Neuaddu and
Pontyberem on the Ordnance Survey map).
What I don't know:
Did Isaac have siblings? When did Isaac emigrate from Wales to US? (He
married Jane Davis in PA in April 1858, when he was 23, so I am guessing
that he emigrated about 1853-57). When and where Evan and Margaret were
married? Margaret's maiden name? And where they lived, died and are
buried? (Possibly they emigrated with Isaac, but we have found no
evidence in the US census records. Also, I have found in the
Carmathenshire Marriages an Evan JONES, Llannon, and Margaret LEWIS,
Llangendeirne, married 9 Nov 1832. The locations and date seem to be
logical, but I guess I need more confirmation).
Any help and guidance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all your great messages and the FHS web
pages.
Richard Jones
