Hello All
Just to let you know that I subscribed to a list in England for a
couple of
weeks to see if I could find someone who could answer me one question -
they
have about 800-1000 listers there, and not one person offered any
answer -
and not even a family link so I've unsubscribed.
No wonder everyone says that our list is so helpful - I'd hate to think
that
someone did not have an answer to a query - even if we could not
help.......they were only having 19-30 people a day on their list
tooooooooo
so it wasn't as busy as one would expect....
bye from a disgruntled Pauline

Hi Pauline
I cannot be sure that this one I found on the IGI is 'my' Benjamin MORRIS -
he was the only one I could find on the IGI and it may well be him but I'm
being cautious as it's not such an unusual name ;-) I thought I had given
you the reference but anyway here it is:
Benjamin Morris son of Thomas and Rachel, bapt 6 March 1820 Abernant,
Carmarthen, Bwlch Newydd Independent or Congregational Batch C100631 Film
0056
Just a thought - while Benjamin got married in the Bethania Chapel, John
Morris married Phoebe Evans in the Parish Church of Merthyr Tydfil in 1837.
If he had been brought up in the Independent Church tradition might he get
married in the PC if Phoebe was of that persuasion?
Kind regards,
Karen in Hants, UK

Hi Pauline,
Sorry this is nothing to do with Carmarthenshire.
My wife's ancestors originated from Radnorshire. Is there a list site for
that county?

Hi Pauline,
Why don't you try us? - you never know someone may be able to help.
I have several English areas I have to search for some of my links and
my "other half" I'm afraid is all English (although I have been training
him into local ways over the years!!)
At least you know why we are so grateful for such a friendly list.
Bye for now
Pat

Hello Tony
This is what you want - unfortunately it covers a wide area so you get
lots about areas that are not relevant.
POWYS. A mailing list for anyone with a genealogical interest in the
Wales, United Kingdom counties of Breconshire, Radnor, Montgomeryshire,
Flint, Denbigh, Caernarfon, Anglesey, and Merionthshire. You must be a
subscriber to post to the list. To subscribe send the word "subscribe"
(without the quotes) as the only text in the body of a message to powys-
l-request(a)rootsweb.com (mail mode) or powys-d-request(a)rootsweb.com
(digest mode).
I have needed to look at Llandilo Graban in Radnorshire - so if you by
chance are interested in anyone there I may have them on my printouts.
I had some prints done at a reasonable cost from one of two libraries
depending on which years they were.
If you want to mail me direct about any of this - you can.
Pat

Hi Pauline and Richard
Here's one of my queries repeated - I'm sure you have had so many
queries recently from so many people that this was overlooked.
It's possible the answer is "I don't know" but anyway here goes:-
On the marriage lists that you sent me for my "this year's ration"
against some of the names are occasionally a number and sometimes a #
character.
Do you know the significance of this?
Hope you can enlighten me
Cheers
Pat

Hello Pat,
Thank you for the information. I will subscribe as you suggested.
Might need to come back to you but I promise not to be a 'list pest'!
Especially as I'm feeling the pressure on other lists resulting from my offer
to assist in searches!
Audrey, my wife is looking for a James Davis (no 'e') born Glasbury, Rad.
about 1811-13.
Best wishes,
Tony (Rhydcymerau).

What location in England are you researching

With reference to List & Information.
As Pauline and other subscribers to Carmarthenshire-L have found on other
lists, is the lack of information and interest taken in requests for help and
information, in some cases not even a friendly, 'Can't help."
Carmarthenshire FHS has quite a large library of Information in Books,
Microfiche, and CD-ROM's, which cover not only Carmarthenshire, but a large
amount of South Wales information and England, we have made this available to
subscribes since the list has been in operation which is almost 18months now,
so to help anyone who has interests outside Carmarthenshire, I will during
the next few weeks add a page or two, to the web site with what we have
available for lookups throughout the country.
For starters we have the IGI for the whole of Wales (1994 edition) which
includes the following English Counties;
Cheshire, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Kent,
Shropshire, Somerset & Warwickshire. (which in most cases are neighbouring
Counties to Wales).
We also have the following Counties marriages 1813-1837;
Carmarthenshire, Cardiganshire, Pembrokeshire, Glamorganshire, Monmouthshire,
Caernarvonshire, Merioneddshire, Aberconwy.
Regards
Richard James

Having just finished reviewing the 1861 and 1871 census for my ancestors, I
found that one of the children was listed as "Deaf and Dumb", I was
wondering if anyone could provide me some background on what if any services
or offerings were available for children that were suffering from this
disability.
In todays world there are many possiblities, but I was wondering what life
they may have faced.
Thank you in advance for your replies on this.

Hi Jane
The 1863 marriages are marriage extracts taken from the Llanelli Guardian,
you will find some marriages from 1863-1869, and also some Glamorgan
marriages in some cases
