Dear All,
I have recently joined Carmarthenshire FHS and subsequently the mail listing system. I
have enjoyed reading the various messages sent between you all. Several branches of my
husband's family originated from the Carmarthen region, mainly Carmarthen town itself
and Llanegwad. Any help that can be provided to advance my search would be appreciated.
Here goes.
David Davies (father Thomas James, born c.1833 in Llanegwad) married Amelia Jones (father
Joseph Jones, born c.1833 in Llanwinio) in Brechfa Parish Church in Nov 1857. Prior to
there marriage they were working in farms in Llanegwad called 'Tyrivaltir' and
'Penrhywgolau'. According to the 1881 census records they were living at
'Galltygolau', a farm in the Hamlet if Miros in Llanegwad. They had 4 children
that we know of :- Thomas born c.1859, Sylvanus born 23/9/1865 (Ken's Paternal
Grandfather), Essex born c1867, and Adah born c.1874 all born in Llanegwad. Sylvanus was a
grocers assistant in King Street, Carmarthen in 1881.
John Thomas (born c.1839 in Abergavenny) and his wife Elizabeth Morgan Thomas (nee Jones,
born c.1851 in Ebbw Vale) were living in 'Tabernacle Villa', Waterloo Terrace,
Carmarthen according to the 1881 census records. John was a Baptist Minister. They had 7
children that we know of :- John born c.1871, Lewis born c.1873, William born c.1875 all
in Bassaleg. Then Mary born c.1877, David born c.1881, Ritchie Jones Thomas born
23/11/1887 (Ken's Maternal Grandfather), Gwladys born c.1890 all in Carmarthen
St.Peter.
We visited the region last September to further our quest but unfortunately the Carmarthen
record office was closed for refurbishment. We look forward to returning later in the year
as we thought the area absolutely beautiful. Anyway thanks in advance for anyone who is
able to give information on any of the above people. We'd love to hear from anyone who
is related to us.
Christine
