Although not in Wales, I came across another interesting explosion. Gt Gt
grandfather's death certificate, dated 1875, records that he died of
bronchitis and "a shock to the nervous system, brought on by an explosion on
the canal. I had no idea of the circumstances, until, quite by chance, I
found a website about Macclesfield Bridge. It says that the bridge is
commonly known as 'Blow Up" bridge, because, in late1874, a barge, carrying
gunpowder, exploded, destroying the bridge, though the massive cast iron
columns, though blown down, were undamaged and reused for the rebuilt
bridge. Both the date and the fact that this canal bridge, in Regents Park,
is in the immediate vicinity of g.g. grandpa's address, confirm that this
