Hi Gerry
Richard will go and find out exactly where the headstone is for you, so
pleased they will be looking after these headstones, did you ask what
happened to the ones of 30 years ago??.....What a shame the Dragon Book shop
was closed, because the book from WHSmith does not have the index in it (or
have they included this now), you have to ask at the Llanelli Star offices
for the index.......the owner of Dragon Books has pasted these into the book
for his purchasers.
Yes, Llanelli has changed so much, the lack of Market Street and top part of
Murray Street is a shock if you have not been here for quite a
while.......what is left of Market Street is deserted, except for one public
house and a 'bingo hall'. The River Lliedi was covered over quite a few
years ago, I think it is under McDonald's because the lane is still
there.....do you think it is a better shopping centre now?? You should have
called in to see us, we're in New Road just a stone's throw away from
'Town'.....
They are planning to redevelop the old Buckleys Brewery Site and Upper Park
Street......something needs doing to this part of town, the Brewery site is
the main route into and past Llanelli......
Glad you enjoyed your stay.....speak soon Pauline
Happy New Year

Dear Ray, Pauline and the rest of the list.
I paid a flying visit to Llanelli on Thursday on my way to see a cousin in
Llandeilo, firstly to get the latest Llanelli book from the shop in the
arcade (it was shut, so got a copy from WH Smith's) and secondly to pay a
visit to Adulam. I didn't find my g-g-grandfather's grave, but by chance
met
the pastor of the chapel. He assured me that the gravestones would
not be
removed from the burial ground, but would be put up against the boundary
walls. About ten rows of stones are being repositioned.

PS (to Pauline)
I was absolutely amazed at the changes to the centre of the town. The St
Elli shopping centre has been built right across the road that I used to
walk along from James Street to the Odeon cinema and Market Street seems
to
have disappeared from the face of the earth. When I was last in the
town
It
was possible to see the River Lleidi next to Woolworth's store.
The river
has been built over, so it is now culverted over an even greater length.
