Donna and Anna - Margaret was born in Cefn-Coed-y-Cymmer, Breconshire (but
essentially, as you doubtless know, Upper Merthyr). She was nine in 1871
when William's family were living in Lower Cefn Coed, nineteen in 1881 in
Cambrian Street. Cwm Clydach, Rhondda. She was not with them in 3 Jenkins
Terrace Cwm Clydach in 1891. In that she was unusual: they tended to
cluster together.
My John Rees was born in Aberthaw 1828 and died in rail accident at Cwm
Clydach in 1883, so I don't think he's connected - and my John Davies came
from Llandisiogogo, Cardiganshire, so I'm sure those Davieses weren't. I
do have relatives from Llywel, but they were called Howells and Lewis.
Like playing snap, isn't it? Hwyl. Tony

Hi Tony Rees and Anna Thomas:
Tony:
it's interesting that your William Evans had a daughter, Margaret
Evans (1862). I have an Elias Rees born 1858 in Merthyr Tydfil who married
a
Margaret Evans (b.1861 -d.abt 1885 Merthyr Tydfil). Wonder where your
Margaret Evans was from, Breckon?
Anna Thomas:
I believe there must be a real Rees connection with your John Rees
and
my Rees line. I have an Elias Rees b. 1811 at Dolgoy Farm, Llangadock
Parish
(grandfather of the above Elias Rees). His father, Edward Rees is
buried
in
the Llangadock Cemetery with his wife Elizabeth Lloyd. I think Elias
had a
brother born in Llangadock - John Rees born 30 Jul 1809. Does this
possibly
match up with your John Rees? The first child born to my Elias Rees
(and
Jennet) was named Elizabeth. She was born 10 Jun 1835 at Kilgwyn Mill, by
Myddfai, (located between Llangadock and Llandovery.) Elias moved his
family
from Kilgwyn Mill to Merthyr Tydfil about 1838 (to eventually become
carpenter at Cyfarthfa Castle). I visited the Carmarthen Archives and also
Llangadock (among other places) last January - it was a fantastic
experience.
I'm wondering if anyone on the list knows any of the
history of
Kilgwyn Mill? I'm eager to visit it on my next trip to Wales. I've found
it
on the map.
I don't know as much about my Davies cousins' ancestry except
William
Davies was born 5 Dec 1835-36 in Carmarthenshire, married Janet Rees
and
had
a big family, some living in Laugharne today (and one daughter,
incidently,
was named Esther).
Thanks Anna and Tony for your replies.
Sincerely, Donna Wendt in North Carolina
