Hi Pauline, many thanks for your efforts to date. All the information I have
is that on my grandfathers wedding certificate he (John) was a collier, his
father David is a Baller. The wedding was at Vaynor church on 3 June 1900.
John married Sarah Alice Webley. On the birth cert of John, his father David
is a Puddler residing at 9 Lower Union Street Dowlais. David married
Elizabeth Isitt of Pater (Pembroke Dock) on 20 march 1865 aged 22 (she 19).
Davids occupation on the marrriage certificate is an Iron Puddler. David was
born on 23 June 1842 at Laburnam cottage in the Parish of Kidwelly, sub
district of Pembrey in the registration district of Llanelly, his father was
John - a shoemaker, his mother was Margaret (nee Bowen).
On the 1881 census the family resided at 237 Penydarren Rd Merthyr Tydfil.
David is a labourer in Coal Mine.
The 1881 census shows the source as FHL Film 1342280 PRO Ref RG11 Piece
5317 Folio 55 Page 5
This is about as much information as I have. I hope that this helps a
little.
Best regards
John

Hi John
I have looked in Merthyr Tydvil 1891 census again this afternoon - and I
just cannot find David Davies.......there is not one mentioned from
Kidwelly
Carms, quite a few from Carmarthenshire, but not the one we
need......I
have
checked all the relevant ones out - he may have stated he was born
in
Glamorgan by this census, but I've checked these too....I've also looked
for
Elizabeth from Pembrokeshire - but she is not there either -
Why do you say that David Davies was in his sons wedding in 1900?? What
was John's occupation when he married - maybe I could find him in
1891.......give me as much information as you have - are you sure it's the
right ones from 1881??
Another question, why did you state he was a puddler in 1881?? Was this a
slip - let me know because my census states he was a labourer in a
coalmine.
speak soon Pauline

Subject: [Cmn-L] Davies in Merthyr Tydfil
>Hi, I am trying to obtain information about my ggrandfather David Davies.
He was born in Kidwelly 23 June 1842 but he is listed as being 36 in 1881
and, as he could not read or write, i believe this may be a mistake. His
wife Elizabeth is also shown as aged 36 but she was born in Pater
(Pembroke
Dock) in 4th Quarter 1844. She also could not read or write.
According to
the 1881 census he is the only one to fit the data i have. He (David and
family) resided at 237 Penydarren Road Merthyr Tydfil in the 1881 census.
He
married Elizabeth Isitt in March 1865 at the Zion church in
Twwynyrodyn
M.T.
The children from the marriage were, in the 1881 census), Elizabeth
Ann
aged
13; John aged 11 (my grandfather); David aged 9 and Catherine aged
7. I
am
positive that this is the family because we knew my grandfather John
was
born in MT in 1870 between dec 1869 and june 1870; his birth cert shows
him
as being born 23 Feb 1870. David was alive in 1900 bacause he
attended my
grandfathers w!
>edding in June at Vaynor church. David was a puddler in 1881 and in June
1900 my grandfathers wedding cert shows David to be a 'Roller'. Could
anyone
please try and locate this family, in MT in the 1891 census, i
believe
that
237 Penydarren road did not exist in 1891.
