Hello Pauline
Thank you so much for the information you have sent regarding John STANLEY
and Pembery House. This is great, a week ago I knew nothing about him. John
Stanley's daughter Emma was listed on the 1881 Census in London as an
unemployed teacher, so perhaps she taught at his school.
I really am delighted with the information and with the information I found
on the Pembery Historical Society Website. I have the history of the STANLEY
family on my website:

John Stanley was either the son of John Strongi'th'arm Stanley born 1786 or
his brother Robert Strongi'th'arm Stanley born 1784, their brother William
born 1788 lived in Cardiff from 1817. There are some quite interesting
stories regarding this family, particularly John Strongi'th'arm's involvement
with a strange religious cult which was made into a BBC2 series in 1992 'Mr
Wroe's Virgins' starring Jonathan Pryce and Kathy Burke. I have started
adding Family History sources and information for people researching their
family history in east Manchester and would be pleased to reciprocate with
look ups for any of the towns that make up Tameside.
Very Best Wishes Gay
