Hi Mandy
You mentioning Pwysdu in Pontyates brings back a lot of memories as I was
originally from that village. I remember in the 1950's Pwysdu as being two
semi-detached houses, which are still there, and in one lived a Sal Jenkins.
In the 1881 census David and Elizabeth Jenkins and family lived in Pwysdu.
About 100 yds away is Caercefn Farm where my gggrandparents Thomas and
Elizabeth Owen lived. In the 1881 census they had a grand-daughter Jane
Jenkins living with them. I believe that she was the daughter of David and
Elizabeth as it looks like Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas and
Elizabeth Owen. Her age tallies with their daughter Elizabeth from the 1851
census.
Is this information any help to you?

Subject: Names
Hello Everyone.
Jane kindly looked up my great grandmother on the 1881 census - bingo she
was
there - Mum's information on the dwelling and the fact that g
gran was a
twin
helped. There were 9 children listed. This tiny cottage only had two
rooms -
amazing. I was intrigued by the fact that none of the children had
Welsh
names. Why was this? Was it the fashion to use English names?
Now that I have my Great Grandmother's year of birth and her father's name
is
this enough information to obtain a marriage certificate? William
enkins -
gr grandfather is a bit more complicated as there are so many of them
around
the same district and Mum doesn't recall much only that he and
Jane lived
in
Pwysti house in Pontyates, but doesn't know where he was born.
Best wishes
Mandy
