I realise I might be "throwing a spanner in the works" here, but have
you considered the possibility that the exotic "Olaida" and the humble
"Gladys" (or "Gladis") might be one and the same name?
Time and the elements can play strange tricks on tombstone
inscriptions.
Likewise, artistic "flourishes" can cause confusion of
similarly shaped
letters in handwritten records.
