I visited the Family Records Centre in London yesterday for a short
while.
The day was taken up with walking miles to get anywhere.
I found them very helpful and I managed to find out some information and
details about my great-grandparents but as ever there are still some
mysteries. I have also discovered some relations no-one seems to have known
about in speaking to family mambers. None of which is a surprise to any of
you I am sure.
The following are my finds from yesterday.

Benjamin Davies Grandson Inf Llandowror
I went back to the 1881 cenus and looked in the Llandowror returns and could
find no mention of any Phillip's though the 1891 return sames some were born
in Llandowror. In th e1881 Census the occupant of Talvan Farm is John Evans
and others
It also seems odd that Catherine Thomas is listed as Grandmother to Mary
Phillips the
head of the Household it would seem more likel that she was mother to her.
Presumably my great grandmother had gone home for her confinement perhaps
because John's mother was dead and there was no one in Llanstephan to
assist.
In the Parish Church Graveyards at Llanddowror are the following graves
Joseph Phillips Talvan Farm 14/1/1932 age 60
David Phillips brother of above 6/1/1942 age 73
Miriam wife of Jotham Phillips Late Ostrey Villa, St Clears 14/12/1935 68yrs
Jotham Phillips 13/12/40 aged 73yrs
David Stanley Son of Jotham and Miriam Phillips of Penback, St Clears Age
14 months
Esther Jones Rhoscelyn, Llanddowror January 9th 1938 61yrs
Thomas Jones July 7th 1972 84yrs
Catherine Phillips May 1st 1948 age 75 yrs Gorwyn, St. Clears
Other information from family sources:
Phillips family
I know that Anne Phillips married a William Rees Chemist of Swansea and one
of their grandchildren lives here in Cheltenham and goes to the same Church
as me.
Jotham and Miriam Phillips had two daughters besides David Stanley. Ida
Phillips was Matron of Gorsienon Hospital from 1929 -1965 she is buried in
St Clears. Pheobe Agnes Williams (nee Phillips) married James Williams and
they had one son Gordan who still farms at Llwynbychan Farm north of St
Clears.
The mystery is that the family says there was a sister younger than Anne
called Bridgett who married someone called Jones. Some of their children are
still living in Carmarthenshire and a grandson is in Swansea.
Davies family
Anna Davies married ? Evans and had four children Florence, Margaret, David
and Dorian. They farmed Pentowyn until about 25 years ago when they moved
into Llansteffan. None of them married and David and Dorian are still alive.
Florence and Margaret are buried in the Llan y brie Independent Chapel
Cemetary.
The family only talk of two other sisters.
John Richard Davies and Elizabeth emigrated to Leicestershire in 1892 when
they had six more children. One of whom was my grandmother. They were tenant
farmers on at least two farms the last being Hall Farm, Naseby. John and
Elizabeth are buried at Theddingworth Congregational Church.
Any comments, helpful suggestions or information greatly received.
