My Dear Marge,
Where do I start - you have raised so many points.
I'll take time to look up my key warning messages for you,
(1) I don't particularly like Yahoo either. Their take over of Geocities
was
brutal in the extreme. However i still have many Web Sites at
Yahoo!-Geocities, and I use their advanced Editor every time I add details
to
my Angus Surnames List, to do this I use my long established
"Yahoo ID",
(identity Description - jimrob_009) with my pre arranged Password. No
porn,
no spam from them, No Deals with their advertisers, and no Yahoo
Mail.
(2) I don't suppose the owners of eGroups were very thrilled when they
were
bought out by Yahoo! some six months ago- when I started warning
everyone
of the take over. Curiously members of Yahoo's own Yahoo Groups are even
more incensed than the majority of eGroup vocalists! Yahoo really wanted
the
skills built into eGroups eMail system, which they lacked. Hence the
take-over.
(3) You will only need to have a Yahoo ID when seeking access to our
webpage
something I suspect you very seldom do. You will never need it for
straight
forward eMail, of which you do a lot, very effectively !! Pat on the
old
Back!!
(4) in many ways we eGroupers are the winners - Yahoo Groupers are
screaming
the roof down about the forced changes to their Yahoo clubs, which
gave
Yahoo such
a questionable name!
(5) Just swallow hard and apply for a Yahoo ID - give them the minimal
info to
satisfy the system - broad age indication, and broad location info.
They
need the
age bit to satisfy the US Congressional legislation designed not to
protect
us,
but to protect our kids!!
Hope this little monologue helps! When you apply for your Yahoo ID, only
if
you want to enter our Web page, with all it's genealogical info
and links,
remember not to ask for Yahoo mail, and remove the tick from the "Special
Deals" with advertisers box.
Bless you!
Jimmie
