Hi Barrie
Yes, Llanmadoc is where you have to walk from to get to the Whitford
Lighthouse, you have to park your car up a hill, and then walk all the way
through some woodlands, and that's before you even reach the
beach.........then another hour walk to get to the lighthouse (following the
tide out).....they stated that if the tide was out the lighthouse keeper had
to make his way by bicycle and then carry his bike to the lighthouse - it
must have taken half a day to get there....surely they would have changed
shift when the tide was favourable and were able to row out surely......
Yes, I have found that lots of Llanelly people moved to the Gower and vice
versa - it's the same with Loughor - although only 2 miles from us, it is in
Glamorganshire - and in the 1800's they used to ferry back and forth - but
again lots of Llanelli people were in both Loughor and Llanelli - which makes
it harder for research when one keeps on popping back and forth into each
County.....
