Hi Hywel
Here is an abstract re Golden Grove - if you let us know what time period
John Thomas was here I have indexed 1851 census if you require a look-up for
this parish....
Golden Grove Gelli Aur
Llanfihangel Aberbythych
For four and a half centuries Golden Grove was one of the most important of
Carmarthenshire residences, its families amongst the most distinguished.
The Vaughans descended from the ancient Princes of Powys, settled in Carms
about 1490, and the first mansion was built at Golden Grove at the beginning
of Elizabeth's reign.
*******
This is a very large write-up about the Mansion and families who lived in
Golden Grove.....I assume you want how life was....I'll see what I can find
in other resources for you..
If you do want the information on this family let me know and I'll write it
out for you.
regards Pauline

Subject: [Cmn-L] Golden Grove
Hi,
Can someone help me find out what Golden Grove - or Llanfihangel
Aberbythych
to give it its Welsh name - was like in the 18th century?
An ancestor of mine( with the most unusual name of John Thomas
! )
came from there. He married a girl named Mary who came from Llanddarog - and
that's about all I know of this mysterious gentleman.
If anyone has any info. regarding the person or the place I
would be
delighted to hear from you.
Hywel
