Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi Dave
you have the date of his death, along with those of his wife and children,
so if you contact Carmarthenshire registry office to see if they have a
death of David Charles in 1864 you can ask them also to look at 1884 for
that date too......can you read the welsh inscriptions, if not let me know
and I will give you the day and month
Do you want the baps of both John Charles and Ann Edmund?
Pauline

Dear Elwyn,
22 Ropewalk Road will still be there I think. The area is called the Morfa,
and Dafen Row is further down from Ropewalk Road. My father's mother was
living at No 24 in 1901, and last Spring we went to see No 24. Dad had
several uncles and aunts living in Ropewalk Road as well.
Ropewalk Road and the Morfa is a very typical Welsh working class area, with
a lot of terraced houses that must have been very crowded when you see the
numbers of adults and children living in them.

Hi, Pauline,
Thanks for the info. I am leaving for California tomorrow for 10 days and can't
do any genealogy stuff right now (I just got back from Ohio and haven't unpacked
from THAT trip!), but I want to follow up on this--although it may mean waiting
until I can get back to Wales to really dig.
My hunch is--if this is a related family, they are cousins or something.
Thanks,
Mona

Hi Mona
The thing is, the parents of Thomas Davies were Daniel Davies who married
Dinah Davies in Conwil Elved 1826......so Davies on both sides!!! Daniel
and Dinah were born in Conwil Elved around 1806.......Dinah had connections
to Cilmache in Conwil Elved, her widowed mother married a John JONES of
Cilmache.......Thomas married from there, his sister Sarah married from
there, and Dinah died there, even though she lived in St Peters Carmarthen
at the time....Daniel was widowed in 1849, I have him and his 3 younger
children in 1851 census Penlanychawel St Peters there, but I have completely
lost him after that!!
Wonder if we can find a connection.....where were your Davies from?
Pauline

Hello list,
Can somebody tell me where Ropewalk Road is and does the house still exists.
I am looking for relatives of William and Margaret Rees. I was told Margaret
Rees died in 1925 at this home.
William died in 1901 at 5 Dafen Row, New Dock, Llanelly. Is that near the
above mentioned address?
Elwyn - Netherlands.
Hello List,
Can somebody find my Anne Rees (nee Williams) in 1901 census? Age 72 and
widow of John Rees farmer.
She died in 1901 so census could have been taken after her death.
She was either at Clifton Terrace, Llandysil or at Cnwc cottage, Cwmcou,
Newcastle Emlyn.
Elwyn - Netherlands.

Hi Dave
Glad that you have the photo of the gravestone, it looks like an 8, but the
others came after him, the children tie in, and I looked for an Elias
Charles and he was the only one.......and missing from 1881.
My gt.gt grandparents are buried in Jerusalem Chapel Achddu Burry Port, and
although Thomas Davies remarried he is mentioned on the headstone of his
wife, unsure if he is buried there, but he is named......wonder if the same
happened for Elizabeth Charles who remarried and became a Morris, but never
in the census with a husband, but always with her son David Charles, unless
she wanted to be buried with him and her children.
Yes, you have the date and year from the headstone, so send an email to
Carmarthenshire Registry office and ask for the certificate, giving
information to ensure that you have the correct one, hopefully David Charles
jnr was the informant or at least present at death.....and in the vicinity
of the Pwll area......
Sorry there is no information on Cilymaenllwyd estate.....Bethlehem Pwll is
across the road from that Mansion, now a nursing home, did you visit that
when you visited the area?
I have more information further back on John Charles and Ann Edmund if you
do not have that.....
regards
Pauline

Thanks Pauline - that's the only one that I can tie in with my David Charles. My grandfather said that they were buried at Bethlehem Pwll and I have a photo that I took of that gravestone last year - I agree, it really looks like an 8, but it must be 1864. If it's him, I don't know how he fitted in being a coal miner, copper collier, father and a gamekeeper in such short lifetime!
I will have a search for his death certificate to see what else I can find.
Thank you very much for your continued help!
I contacted the Carmarthenshire Enquiries, but they don't hold the Cilymaenllwyd records - their reply said :
The
Cilymaenllwyd estate collection is in the National Library of Wales,
although oddly enough holds no records actually relating to
Cilymaenllwyd! I am afraid that we hold no records here either that are
likely to help you.
So, I think I may have to try looking through old newspapers at some point in the future, if I am to get some answers.

On the marriage certificate of David (junior) on 10th Sept 1881 at the Tabernacle Chapel, David is named as deceased Game Keeper.
David (senior) married Elizabeth Williams, daughter of John Williams (collier) in 1850 ar Carmel Chapel, Pembrey. I am pretty sure their children all grew up in Pembrey.
Thanks

Hi David
Yes, thank you Richard and myself are well....sorry to hear of your relapse
with ME, just take it easy and just do what you can at any one time.
Thanks for letting me know that Brecon FHS were impressed with
CarmarthenshireFHS online site and that they have been able to make progress
now with their own. Yes, always lock information as you know there is
always someone trying to make things easy for themselves using other peoples
information and their hard work. We still index all the time (bit slow this
month due to the heat) and try to help as many as we can.
Good luck and best wishes David
Pauline

Hi Pauline
I hope everything is well with Richard and yourself. Thank you for
confirming my message was received. At the moment I can't think of any
pressing questions. Mind you after 20 years research I think I'm back as
far as I can get, I tend to look for opportunities to help other people now.
The Breconshire Local & Family History Society Committee were very impressed
with your CFHS site and have taken on board your some of our ideas. They
had intended making all my databases fully downloadable until I pointed out
the danger of pirate copies being sold on the Internet so they are going to
allow access in the same way as you do.
A few days later they asked me to become a committee member and initially I
accepted, but after attending the Talgarth Fair I suffered quite a severe
relapse with my ME which is a reminder that I am still not well enough to
carry out the responsibilities of being a committee member so I have sadly
declined their offer. My contribution will still be transcribing registers.
I have already supplied 99% of the Parish and Nonconformist databases they
intend using and hope to give them many more.
Best wishes..........................David
