Thank you Pauline - that must be her then because on the 1851 she says she
is from Llanarthney. This means that she was 55 when she married Thomas who
would have been 28 years old. Do we have a baptism for her in Llanarthney
around 1770.
With regard to Thomas Arthur then if he is a visitor he cannot be living in
Abergwili at that time. He was born in Abergwili c 1829 and in 1851 is a
basket maker. All the Arthur family are living next door to each other in
the 1851 - many branches of the same family. In 1871 he is in St. Peter
Carmarthen born Abergwili married to Hannah with a load of children and a
grocer - the address looks like Priory St?. I don't have him in the
1861 census.
I have the 1841 for my ancestor David Arthur 1834 and father David aged 35,
wife Elizabeth nee Evans 35, with him is Thomas aged 10 amongst all the
other children. They are living in Veney hamlet.
thanks
Diana

Dear list
Does anyone have any records of a Thomas Jones being born in Llandefeilog around 1789? By 1841 he had moved to Abergwili and was a cooper.
thank you
Diana
Dear Pauline
Thank you - are there any other marriages in Llanarthney for a Thomas Jones
to an Anne? Is there a baptism for Ann nee Thomas in Llanarthney around
1769? Could she possibly be an Arthur and the marriage to Thomas Jones the
second time around?
I have several children in the 1841 census of Veney hamlet Abergwili.
William aged 25, John Jones 35 (why would the surname be put only after this
one?) then Mariah 40 (I assume that she is the wife of John Jones aged 35),
Margaret 13,Mary 9. Rachel 7 and William 10 months.
I cannot read the connection on the 1851 census between Thomas Jones and
Thomas Arthur - do you have the census and can you read it!?
thanks
Diana

Dear list,
Does anyone have any of the bmd's for Llanarthney? I have Thomas Jones (brother of Jonah) c1797 marrying Anne. She was from Llanarthney. On the 1851 census she is 79 years old wife of Thomas Jones (Llandefeilog) being 54!! On the 1841 census she is aged 60 and he is 45. In 1851 they have Thomas Arthur the brother of my John Arthur 1834) living with them but I cannot read the relationship of Thomas Arthur to Thomas Jones, can anyone work that one out. I would love to find the marriage of Thomas and Anne if anyone can do this.
thanks
Diana
Dear list,
Having sorted out some of my Arthur family I now feel inspired to look at my Jones/Jenkins (well on particular line of JonesJenkins as I have so many different lines of them from different areas of Wales)!
Could someone have a look at a Mary Jenkins on St. Peters church bmd's She married Jonah Jones of Llanfihangel Abercowin (1851/61/71 census information) at St. Peter's on 29th Sept 1818 (have photocopy of the marriage entry). I would like to find her death . She was alive in 1861(aged 67) but dead by 1871.
Some of Jonah Jones and Mary nee Jenkins children were baptised at St. Peters whilst later ones were baptised at Lammas St. Independent Chapel which, going on the baptisms, they moved churches between 1826 and 1827.
In 1871 Jonah Jenkins aged 74 was living at Polack house with his daughter Margaret Griffiths nee Jones. Does anyone know anything about Polack house?
thanks
Diana
Dear Tom
Thank you again for all the information and your patience in typing it all out.
I have added all the information to my tree which is now looking fairly complicated!!
One interesting bit to come out it is William Arthur 1769 , a shoemaker of Magazine Row. I have a Jonah Jones, umbrella maker (originally from Llanfihangel Abercowin) in 1841 living in Magazine Row. By 1851 he had a shop in Lammas St. St. Peter's. His daughter Ann Jones 1834 married John Arthur (my line, son of at Llangunnor in 1855. It does seem a very small world at that time.
I have never been able to find any record of Jonah Jones birth He married Mary Jenkins at Llanllwch in 1818.
best wishes
Diana

Dear Diana
I sent Hywel a copy of my note to you with a copy of the Carms list postings of Sian and yourself. I have not had a response from him, so I think that he and his family might be on holiday. We have access to each others trees on GR. I have looked at his Arthur branch and have copied part of it. If the Evan that you were querying was your ancestor, then it is likely that Henry's father David was Evan's brother.
He also has the branch back to 1715. I have copied the written sections of Hywel's tree back from Henry and attach it below. Hywel has been adding the back up data on all/ most of his relatives.

Dear Tom
Thank you so much for taking the time to type all that out for me - yes I can slot Henry in now knowing that his father is David 1789. Our lines have parted now. Our family lines are together up to Evan Arthur 1739. Your ancestor William 1763 (father of David 1789) was the brother of my ancestor Evan 1769.
One thing you might like to know is that Evanus Arthur was definately baptised on 28th December 1739 with father Arthur Thomas. I have a copy of the original entry from the parish records. Don't you find IGI records often seem to be incorrect - perhaps the bishop's transcript writings are not very legible on times. It is the surname of his second wife Elizabeth that I am trying to find. It would be good to know the surname of his first wife Ann. Perhaps Sian will be able to find them when she returns from holiday.
Thank you again as I am not a paid up member of GR at present.

Hi
I am looking for some help on were to look to find more detailed information about a Pryse Jenkins who died 1826 in Carmarthen.
His wife was a Sarah Williams. Family search shows them married in 1785
I did find a copy of his will in the Welsh archives which did not give his address or occupation but did give the name of his 3 children and wife whom he left 1600.00 pound to plus an annual payment.
In a process of elimination I am following up on one of his sons Edward b1786 to see if he married/died locally or may possibly have migrated to Liverpool to marry a Pheobe Porter in 1807.
I have had the 111 marker DNA tests done with my closest matches being in South Wales but none being Jenkins surname.
Any help would be appreciated

Dear List,
I wonder if anyone can help me find a Mary David of Llanddarog who married William Arthur 1763 at Lanllawddog on the 24th March 1788. I am trying to find her parents and to see if she had two sisters Rachel and Sarah who attended the Glandwr independent chapel in 1808 which is just into Pembrokeshire.
Sarah David 1760 - 1846 married Evan Arthur1769 - 1849 at Abergwili on 11th October 1793.
Sian has kindly help me with the Arthur side of the family at Abergwili.
thanks
Diana
Dear Sian
Again many thanks for looking up my Arthur family of Abergwili.
There are a few differences from the certificates/census information that I have - I wonder if you could confirm them
1. I have Sarah nee David (aged75) wife of Evan Arthur 1769 with her husband a fisherman (aged 70) on the 1841 census living at Veney Hamlet so she could not have died in 1808? I have the whole of the 1841 census of Abergwili if anyone wants anything looking up. Sarah David's parents William and Elizabeth David were excluded from the fellowship at Glandwr Church in 1808 and perhaps that is what is meant that Sarah had died to the chapel as she, as well as her parents, may have done something wrong?? I have the entry into Glandwr chapel of Sarah and her sister Rachel David.
2. I have a photocopy of the burial entry at Abergwili of my direct ancestor Evan Arthur aged 81(who was living at Pant-tawel Llanarthney) on the 16th April 1849 . I also have the burial entry at Abergwili of Sarah Arthur on the 15th Nov 1846 aged 86. So I wonder who the Sarah David who died on 27/5/1808 near Capel Dewi was. Was it a daughter? Any ideas.
Thank you for the siblings of Evan 1769 - that is brilliant.
So what I need to find now is the marriage of Evan Arthur b 28/12/1739 to Elizabeth which I assume would be between 1758 and 1761 given that the marriage to Elizabeth is a second marriage.
Also I would love to find the mother of Evanus Arthur - I have a photocopy of his baptism in Latin on the 28th December 1739 but only the father's name is given - Arthur Thomas. I wonder if there are any siblings you could find for Evanus (Evan).
I would love the information on Evan 1769's siblings to complete the picture.
Do you know anything about Myrtle Cottage which was the home of the Arthur family. I have googled it but cannot come up with anything.
thank you again
Diana

Subject: Re: Arthur family of Abergwili
HI Diana,
Â
I have looked through what I have and here is what I have found so far......
Â
Evan Arthur (b1769, d 7-12-1805) and Sarah David(d 27-5-1808 nr Cappel Dewi) had the folowing children:
Â
David b. 21-8-1794, d. 24-8-1794
Evan b. 13-9-1795
Hannah b. 21-5-1797
Esther b. 18-11-1800
David b. 13-3-1804.
Â
Evan and Sarah were married 11-10-1793 at Abergwili.
Â
Evan had the following siblings:
Â
Mary b 8-8-1758 to Evan &Â Anne (possibly a 1st marriage, but I couldn't find a burial for Anne - so she may have come from a neighbouring parish)
Arthur b. 5-4-1761
David b. 5-4-1761
William b. 6-10-1763
Elizabeth b. 21-2-1766
(Evan 18-2-1769)
Anne 29-1-1772
Esther 9-11-1774.
Â
Mary appears to be the only child of Evan & Anne, all the rest from 2nd marr to Elizabeth.
Â
I will have to go further back into my files as I have only transcribed 1723- onwards, but I do have the parish records on digital scan, so I can have a look if you are interested. I have not filled out all the descendents of Evan (jr.) siblings, but I have them as well if you want them.
Â
I am off to Washington early in the morning - more research - but I can look them up for you when I return in a weeks time!! Just let me know and I will put it on my agenda.
Â
Hope this all helps!

Dear Sian
Thank you so much for your email.     I know that I am asking a lot!!
Below is the earlier part of my Arthur tree so it may be too far back for you to have any more information.
If you did know of other children of Evan Arthur 1769Â and Sarah nee David that would be great.
Also if you can find a marriage for Evan Arthur 1739 who married an Elizabeth.
The baptism of Arthur son of  Thomas c 1715 and perhaps his marriage to whoever - the birth of his son Evan in 1739 only shows the father.    Were there any siblings for Evan 1739?
Â
Do you know about Myrtle Cottage Abergwilli as I am told it was the home of the Arthur family from the founding of the village?
If you think that my later research can be of any help then I will send you the more modern bits.
Â
thanks alot

Â
thanks alot

Dear Pauline
That is what is so great about the Carmarthenshire list - everyone has
always been so helpful over the years. Not sure that we can get away
until October. The train fares are so expensive these days and then we
will have to hire a car to get around....... it is too far to drive!
best wishes
Diana
