Hello Pauline
I searched in Cilrhedyn for a Margaret Davies as that was on the 1861
census with no luck, the 1871 has no town just Carmarthen. The children have
Llanelly as their place of birth. In 1881 Margaret claims Trelech as her
place of Birth the three children are proof it is the same Margaret.

Hello Pauline
When I was first searching in April I received an Email from a Sian who
said the Jeremy line was her line if I needed help. Sadly she had nothing on
John Davies, I try to find the Parents of people who marry into my tree,
instead of just leave as just a names. I have found tree's on some families
but keep the tree in a file and just use the parents , this way I can often
help other researchers with information.

Hello, Bob,
At the first mention of copperworks, my ers prick up!
My Rees(e) and Davies families were copper smlter workers and some lived in
Llanelli (seaside and Wern, at least), then Pontardulais, and, I think Cnap Coch
before coming to the US in the late 1830s-40s to smelt copper in Baltimore, MD.
They then recruited hundreds more experienced Welsh smeltermen for those areas
to join them.
You given names in the Davies family (Benjamin, John, Margaret, etc.) all appear
in my lines (Reese and Davies) as do David, Daniel, Thomas, Harry, Elizabeth,
Sarah, Mary Ann (Marian, etc.)
Are you missing any family that might have come to the US around that time?
Associated surnames also include James and Phillips.
Thanks,
Mona

Bob
there was a large copperworks in Llanelli, my own gr.gr grandfather worked
there as a furnaceman.....I can see from 1881 that Benjamin was a
behinder/furnaceman.....mine moved to the next village which was Pembrey
parish which also had a large copperworks.......also surname Davies!! Not
connected as he left Conwil Elved for Llanelli to work in the
copperworks.....one of the main industries at that time as the rural areas
had no work except farming that is why there was migration to the large
towns....
Port Talbot has at this moment in time a steel works, unsure if they had a
copperwoks in the 1800's.....
Have you checked the Cambrian newspaper for a death/obit for Benjamin
Davies?
still looking

Hello Pauline
No I do not have his Marriage , I found I think three marriages for John
Davies and Margaret in 1860 in Llanelly. So I do not know which one to pick
I do not know even which Church they would have used., Have you any idea
where to look. I like the Scottish certificates they tell both parents
names, I have one I have his parents death's both in the workhouse who did
not have the information to put on the certificate. I even visited the
Lanarkshire archives and they brought out the original books for me to look
at, With no luck. Thank you for David and Margaret's marriage.
Any thing you can find will be welcome

Hello Pauline
Yes this is a different Margaret Edwards as The other one was not born in
Trelech . The one who is working in Llansteffan has Trelech for her place of
birth and the one on the IGI to Richard Edwards and Ann Davies IGI C100991
claims to be born and christened in Trelech. I wonder if they did not live
in a surrounding village and liked Trelech Church.
Now to John Davies the information I have is that he was the son of David
Davies and Margaret Jeremy born 1823 in Abergwilli ,he was christened 05 Oct
1823. The first child of John and Margaret was named David. For proof at the
moment I only have that which I was sent from Sharon. John died in the Jun
1/4 1871 in Llanelly . I have them on the 1881 census with the family
together with an Elizabeth Davies as a Boarder born 1807.1891 I have found
a Margaret Davies aged 58 born Trelech living with a John Davies as a
brother both born Trelech, they are living in Llanboidy, Upper Hamlet which
could be her.
Bob
Hi Elwyn

1842 Daniel Davies Mountain Hall age 52
1853 David Davies Mountain aged 28

Hello Pauline
According to the 1871 Census John is 46 years of age and Margaret was 39 . I
believe he is the son of David Davies and a Margaret Jeremy .I was sent
information on David's family from a Sion on the Carmarthen list in regards
to David Davies.
I have to go out to the Post Office Talk later
Bob
Hello list,
Wonder if somebody keeps the burial records for Llangeler.
Am trying to find the deathrecord for Sarah Davies, Mountain Hall,
Llangeler. She was there from 1841-1861.
Age 73 in 1861 and widow of Daniel Davies, who had died in 1842, age 52.
Sarah could have left the farm to stay with one of her children.
Sarah was born in Penboyr, her husband came from Llangeler.
Elwyn.
Hi Everyone
I think I've cracked my little conundrum by a process of elimination.
It seems that Tregaron, Cardiganshire covered the area known as Ysptty
Ystwyth which includes Pont-rhyd-y-groes, Cardiganshire.
It very much looks like my "Jones" line came through Ysptty, Ystwyth in the
mid to late 1800s en route to Carmarthenshire where I was born.
Many thanks
Peter Jones
Late of Llandebie

Subject: [CMN-L] Birth Places on FreeBMD
Hi
If someone was born in Pont-rhyd-y-groes, Ceredigion (or Cardiganshire as it
used to be!) can someone tell me the area name where the birth might have
been registered in, say, 1853?
I am trying to pinpoint the birth of some of my early Jones relatives but
there are too many of theme with the same name for me to pinpoint the right
one without a birth certificate?
Regards
Peter Jones

Robert Beynon, born 1882 was my great - uncle. He was, I believe, both
Chaired and Crowned Bard and President of the Methodist Council. If
there is anyone who can supply dates for these events I would be
grateful

I am researching my Griffiths ancestors of Newport Gwent, Pembroke and Carmarthenshire. I have got as far back as David Griffiths (c1790-1866). who was a stone mason in Pembroke but is recorded in both the 1851 and 1861 censuses as being born in Llanfihangel Ar Arth around 1790. Does anyone have information on his birth, christening, parents or family? I am aware, of course, that there were several Griffiths families in the area and David is hardly an unusual name.
Any information or guidance would be much appreciated.,
David Hugh Barton
Hello List
I am seeking a family of a Thomas Edwards below is the 1841 census. The residence is listed as Causeway
Thomas Edwards 40 Ag Lab Y
Mary 40 Y
Margaret 8 Y
Walter 1 Y
Mary Powell 14 F,S, Y
Walter John 70 Ag Lab Y
James Edwards 14 Y
Sarah 12 Y
Samuel Edwards 35 Ag Lab Y
Jane 40 Y
William 11 Y
Charles 11 Y
John 6 Y
I think that they all belong to the same family with Walter John being an In Law. If SKS has the 1851 census it could show more information. I have the 1851 for Margaret.
Thank you in Advance
Bob
