Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I had hoped to be able to order a film of the parish registers for St Clears from my local LDS library here in Western Australia, but it seems that neither the parish church nor the Baptist chapel registers have been filmed for the period in which I am interested, 1860's to 1890's. Can any kind person suggest what I can do, or is there any kind person who can access these for me to look up several possible events?
Regards Moyna Harland
Hi Gaynor

Thanks Pauline, I think that's the one. Pat has been in touch and given me
lots of information on the family from a book that she has which is
fantastic. I did look up all the female Jones' in the wills index over 40
years to no avail, but now I can do a search for a name so hopefully I will
pick it up.
If you want me to index Llandingat after I've finished Llandilofawr I'm
happy to do so.
Thank you all so much for your help on this.

Hi Pat
Thanks for this info, it is really useful. I did look on the 1841 census but
as you say it didn't give any names.
I have recently obtained a copy of a will in which this property was
mentioned.
I don't know if you are finding the new online Wills at NLW as addictive as
me. It is a brilliant new resource and I am finding so much information from
them.

Hi Gaynor
The Sun Inn was No 7 High Street - There are odd numbers on one side and
even on the other.
I don't think it actually shows as the Sun in the 1841 census.
Who were you looking for?
To help you place it
No 1 was White Hall
No 3 Alma House
No 5 The pharmacy
No 7 Sun Inn.
No 9 Rhoslyn House
This information comes from "Pages from the History of Llandovery" by
Alfred Theodore Arber-Cooke.
It give Ann Jones as the licensee in 1841 and she does show as Publican
aged 15 on the 1841 census.
( Llandingat district 5 page 3)
Is she the one you are looking for?
Cheers
Pat

I looked in the most unlikely place, a place that i never would have put my notes, and hey there it was. I dont know who put it there but there it was..
Thanks again to everyone and sorry to inconvienice you all

About 8 weeks ago i was looking thru the Carmarthenshire records that were available.
I found a place that was called "Rose and Crown"
It may have been a co incidence that a daughter of my JONES'S from Llandefeilog Carmarthen, married a Thomas Jecks here in Australia and opened an in which he called "The Rose and Crown"
I did all the right things, wrote down the infomation, where i found it, the sites etc. As i was on a roll looking for something else i didnt put some of the infomation in the filing cabinet [my head]. Now i have no idea were i found the info or where i put what info that i did find. Does this ring a bell for others :)
Anyway what i would like to know is, has anyone else come across this place?
If on your searches around Carmarthen, you should come across the "Rose and Crown" i would be very very thankfull. In the mean time i will keep searching.
Thanks again

Hi,
I'm new to the list, looking for some help on the FRANCIS family, specifically Jonathan Francis (1722/3-1801), son of Enoch Francis. Both were Baptist ministers, with sketches in the Dictionary of Welsh Biography, but those sketches neglect to name all their children and don't name any wives or daughters (although one of Enoch's daus is said to have m. Rev. Stephen Davies, whose own sketch doesn't name his wife either).
I suspect that my ancestor Martha Francis, who married Benj. Oakey of Swansea in 1766, at Bettws, Glam., was dau. of Jonathan. The DWB says Jonathan settled "in his wife's home, Y Fagwyr, in Llangyfelach parish." He moved from Y Fagwyr to Pen-y-fal; evidently both parishes wanted him. A description of Llangyfelach on the net mentions a connection to the parish of Bettws. (Benj Oakey was a Quaker, disowned for marrying out.)
How would I go about finding out details for this family? The writer of the DWB sketches must have known something, but doesn't divulge anything that helps. I have learned a lot about Rev. Benjamin Francis, Jonathan's brother, who moved to Bristol and became a minister in Horley, Glocs., but can't connect him to Martha, although one of Martha's daus-in-law in her will bequeathed a gold ring with hair of the Rev. Benj. Francis. Enoch and Jonathan Francis both signed as witnesses to Martha's marriage in 1766, and the name Jonathan Francis was given persistently to Oakey children and grandchildren, as was Daniel, another of Enoch's sons.
I do subscribe to ancestry and to a couple of UK sites, and have belonged to the Soc. of Genealogists in London for many years although haven't had that many opportunities to visit. Discovery of my Welsh ancestry is recent (last year!), and I could surely use some help.
Many thanks,
Jane in Massachusetts
Hi Pauline & List,
Have been trying to find John Lewis & family on other census, but seem to be
getting nowhere fast.
I have them on above, living at Waunfort, Llyngwyn, Llanstephan.
John Lewis 52 farmer of 30 acres.born Llanstephan.
Wife Hannah aged 34 also born Llanstephan.
Amy Daughter 20
William son 16
RG09 Piece 4138, folio 62.Page 7.
I think he may be a relation to my Amy Lewis nee Evans, she married Thomas
Lewis in 1823.in Llanegwad.
witnesses are Thomas Lewis , who could be Thomas's father, & a George Jones.
I have never been able to find out more about Thomas , apart from 1841 & his
death in 1850 , but his daughter Catherine , apparently stayed with a
relative in this house, when she was young, which sets my antenna going,
could this John Lewis be a brother to my Thomas I wonder.
Cannot find the family again , not living in same house, maybe John Lewis
has died, but his wife Hannah would still be young, as she was 34 in 1861.
Also their daughter Amy may have married.
Because they named her Amy , I feel this is more than just a whim on my
part, I believe they are all related.
If you can throw any light on this problem , I would be so grateful. You have
helped me so much in the past , that I am keeping my fingers crossed that
you may come up trumps again.
Thanking you for your time.
Jackie in East Sussex.
The only way to look into the future,
Is by standing on the shoulders of the past.
Hi KAren,
Why don't you go to the "history" of your searches and back track through
the sites that you visited! You might find it faster that you think!!!
Just a suggestion.
Cheers
Sian

The electoral rolls are either in the county library or the county archives,
have you enquired there?

Hi Gaynor
Llandovery is the registration district and should be under Carmarthenshire. However, parts of that reg dist were in Breconshire in 1841, so whatever source you are using might classify it under that county. Also, there is no sub district listed as Llandovery, but there is a sub district called Llandingat which is the name derived from the saint to which Llandovery's church is dedicated, so that might contain what you are looking for.

Can anyone help me locate Llandovery on the 1841 census please. Would it be
in Carmarthenshire? I have looked in all the counties but can find no
reference to it - would it have been known by another name. The address I'm
trying to find is a house called The Sun, High Street, Llandovery.
Any help would be much appreciated.

HI Elwyn
I have this one from Penboyr burials - there are earlier and later Evan
Davies too.......
1859 29th June
Evan Davies Trefach, parish of Llangeler aged 29
if he was born in 1850 he died as an infant so the above is not
him........no others sorry from Penboyr
Pauline

Subject: [CMN-L] Skym & Treharne
Hi
I am trawling my way through all the Skyms.
I wonder if anyone has family of Richard Treharne & Mary Skym married 1789
Llangenderine.
I can't find out anything more than they had children
Richard 1790
Mary 1800
Evan 1803
David 1806.
Any help would be appreciated
