Hi
Hoping someone can help with some information on Thomas Jones a farmer on his own farm and Judith Jones nee Matthias. I have been told they had six sons, the oldest being John Matthias Jones born abt 1813.
Any information, would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Karen
I know some of these names are very common in Wales, but boy these are close
to home. I am related to davies and Evan's; an autobiography of Norman Lewis
refers to cousins by the name of Williams and I know I am related to the
Rees's.

Hi Helen
I can see the marriage from our indexes in 1787 as stated by Carmarthen
archives it did not state he was a widower.....the records for Conwil Caio
for the marriages have not all survived.....there is a gap
marriages: 1698-1754; 1783-1970
so appears as if the records are missing between 1754 and 1783.........there
are B.T's between those years which have survived so the marriage maybe in
those, but those are housed in the NLW......or if you have access to an LDS
centre you could order the film in to view......
Yes, in earlier registers names did vary as patronimics were at those
earlier times......
I have found wills for my family which even confuses more.....the father was
Evan Williams whilst all the children's surnames were Davies !!! I was
looking for an Evan Davies from a certain place and this Evan Williams
popped up correct place but with Davies children....still to solve the
mystery.
I know this does not answer your question, its just to say that surnames
were not that important.....they were known as
David son of Rees
which then became David Rees......then his son could have become Thomas son
of David, which in turn became Thomas David.....it is very difficult to say
the least I hsve come across John and Jones being used in the same family
at the same time.......
There are 5 Llanfihangels in Carmarthenshire in total......Llanfair
Aberbythych is above Llandebie to the left of Llandeilo fawr and below
Llangathen........
Not sure if this helps

Hi Pauline,
I am only going the writings of one of our family authors Norman Lewis who
wrote an autobiography of sorts, called Jackdaw Cake. He was David's
Grandson.
The Family Home was Glasfryn in Wellfield Road. [I have a picture of this is
you send me an offline email gconnell(a)ncable.net.au ] He was a Tea Merchant
in King Street. Norman describes him as "among the eleven leading citizens
of Carmarthen" The house is described as full of clocks and mirrors with
teak doors, a wine cellar and a wide staircase. He had the town's first
model T ford. He was invited to meet Edward V11.
Made his fortune selling shipwreck tea!!
He was a deacon of the Baptist church and at one stage was considered for
mayor, but a liaison [business and otherwise] with a French Modiste [Madam]
brought that to an end.
Some of his business dealing I feel were not necessarily above board, but
what successful business man has not resorted to that at some time.
Looking forward to more feedback from you. Positive or Negative, it all goes
to making the story real.
Greg

Hi Pauline,
Thank you for the burial info, much appreciated.
I managed a trip this year to Carms, & found the house Tanylan, the remains
anyway!
Would love to find Alltarddu, maybe on another visit possibly next year.
Any ideas, of where this could be?
Bryan Richards helped me out some years ago, & found a ALLTARDHY ,next to
Glancothi in 1841 census.
His old 1877 map showed it as Cilarddu, & 1891 Old map as Cil-arddu.
Looking at todays map I havent found anything like it.
Thank you again for all your help.
Cheers Jackie

Hi there;
New to the list, so by way of introduction.
I am a direct descendent of David "Warren" Lewis of Carmarthen. He being my
GG Grandfather. I believe a very prominent citizen of Carmarthen in the
late 1800 and early 1900's
I would love to hear from anyone who is connected to the family or has any
information on the family, no matter how remote.
Other names of interest are Evans, the Lewis and Evans family having married
on several occasions, usually once every generation.
Also somewhere, yet to be confirmed exactly how is the Owen/s family.
Also the Foden, and Davies families.
If anyone has any information, or connected in any way I would love to hear
from you.
My grandmother Irene Mary Lewis migrated to Australia in 1919.
Looking forward to hearing from someone/anyone

Hi Jan
No, Civil registration only began in June 1837.....prior to that year
baptisms only were recorded......if they did baptise their children that
is..!
Who are you looking for and where?

Hi
I am no expert but here is my two pence worth.
On LDS there is a Rees John, Rees Jones and one Reese Jones entry for the
baptism on 06 Oct 1731. There is also a "birth" of Rees Jones in 1731 Caio,
this has his mother down as Maria of Mary John and father as John Rees and
perhaps this is where the John aspect comes in (perhaps he was
illegitemate). However it seems a big leap for surname of sibling Jones from
possible parents with surnames John or Rees. This later one on LDS has a
marriage to Anne Morgan on 06 Jun 1764. The Reese Jones entry with baptism
on 06 Oct 1731 has him marrying an Ann Morgan on 06 Jun 1735 in Caio (I
don't think so as he would have only been 4!). However all are submitted
entries by LDS members so their accuracy can't be guaranteed and are
probably best guesses.
Although there won't be a full marriage certificate for the 1787 marriage
(this entry is also o the Carm-FHS web site) CRO will have the record of the
mariage entry. This might give details of witnesses to the marriage which
could help.
I can't find the 1764 marriage on Carm-FHS so I have doubts over the
accuracy of this LDS entries.

Thank you to everyone who has answered my questions about Llanelly workhouse. I'll try contacting CRO.
I am really impressed by the GRO. I ordered birth certificates for two of the boys online about midnight on Sunday and they arrived in the post yesterday. The good news is the family is definitely mine - and I have 3 great uncles I didn't know I had. I bunked off work yesterday to work through the records and find out more - naughty I know, but how often do you find a whole new branch to add to your tree? :-)
