John and Pauline: Thank you for your advice - I'll follow it up.
I've just got back from a fun day in the British Newspaper Library. The Western mail contained a sketch of Arthur Nurse and 2 of his fellow poachers and a description. Apparently he was a 'gigantic fellow, over six feet high', 'broad and muscular in proportion', 'possessed a giant's strength' and was 'of more than average intelligence'. They also provided a sketch of the location in Stradey Woods where the event took place (with an X to mark the spot!).
According to the newspapers Arthur Nurse was buried in St Paul's cemetary. I did a search and found that the church was pulled down some years ago. Are the gravestones still there or if not, have they been transcribed?
By the way, one of the articles in the Western Mail said Arthur's brother, Wyndham Nurse, had led the attack on the Llanelly Conservative Club in 1885 - it seems there were demonstrations against the game laws. Yet more history to follow up.
Thanks again for your help.
Denise
Hello list,
Is there somebody who has Rees in the family?
Would like to find descendents of William Rees and Margaret Roberts. Couple
got married in 1864 at Adulam Chapel, Felinfoel.
William's father, John Rees came from Dafen and was a mason.
Margaret's father was David Roberts and came from Felinfoel. Coliiery agent.
Elwyn - Netherlands.

HI PAULINE the summer has come at last ,to shine upon our shores.I read the
site messages daily and they are still interesting as ever.Tis a shame most
other sites are very formal in thier directives.
I believe all banter is relevent in genealogy ,its life ,and thats what we
are researching, not just names but people who once lived thier lives with
the same gusto and ideals and passion ,but they were all differant ,like we
are in character and manner, thoughts and feelings .
People on this site who sometimes steer away from genealogy, are the
descendants of those we try and find who once lived similer lives.
We are all offspring .iam often told iam just like my grandad in his ways
.when someone suddenly remarks about welsh cakes iam all ears .
Best wishes to you and RICHARD ,JOHN in sunny Deal kent

Arthur NURSE died on 12 November 1889 of gunshot wounds when caught poaching in Cwmbach Dingle, Stradey Park
He was described in newspaper articles reporting the event as 'the most notorious poacher in the neighbourhood' who had spent several terms in gaol for poaching.
Does anyone know which gaol he might gone to and whether I would be able to find any records? If records are available, what sort of information would they have and where are they kept?
Thanks

Hi Benita
Would you please be so kind as to give us details of the CD you have just produced on the Stepney family Llanelli.....with a story that also included of my grandfather.
Benita had the Launch in Parc Howard on Saturday, my grand-daughter Tiffany was invited to attend and she was awarded a complimentary copy of the CD....she is only eleven and was so thrilled to be invited.
Please let us know

Hi Helen
CFHS have indexed 1851 census....so I looked for a Walter William/s in
Llanelli parish......only 3 came up, one being the one listed here, that is
the only possible one for Llanelli.......the other 2 were children....
In 1841 he is a collier.......I cannot find a marriage for them, so they
probably married after registration on 1837.....have you tried to locate a
marriage for them?

Hi Pauline.
Yes I did receive the information you sent through and I apologise big time
for not thanking you much earlier - you must think me very rude!.
A couple of years back you very kindly came to me assistance and let me
have all registered christenings, marriages and burials involving Bonnell
family members.
Later this year I plan to visit Pembrey to see my ancestors/relations
graves. I do hope some of their headstones still exist!
Again I apologise for not getting back to you much sooner.
Kind regards
Richard, Halesowen
Hi
I have some family members who got married at "Llannon Parish Church, Carmarthenshire". However the only reference to a church in Llanon I can find is St.Non's. Is this the same as the parish church and was it in existence when the marriages took place? Some details I have are:
Marriage Year Curate/Vicar
1848 James Whitworth Curate
1864 Thomas Thomas curate
1871 D.H. Davies Vicar
Thank you
Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me please.
I've been trying in vain to trace the baptism/birth certificate for?Mary WILLIAMS.
I did get census details for 1841, 1851 and 1861 from SKS but it just doesn't seem to match?
She married in 1874 in Glamorgan and it stated her father as Walter Williams, Coal Miner.
On census details when she was married 1881-1901 she put place of birth Llanelli, Carms.
her date of birth c.1850/51.
I was given census details of Upper Wern, Llanelly, Carms for the family :
1851
Walter Williams, head, shoemaker, Llanelli
Ann Williams, wife, Llanelli
Jane Williams, dau, 13, Llanelli
Thomas Williams, son, 11, "
William Williams, son, 9,?? "
David Williams, son, 6?? "
Walter Williams, son, 3?? "
MARY Wiilliams, dau, age 3 months
1841 and 1861 census shows father as coal miner.
1861 shows Walter as a widower, yet I think I found them on the 1881 and the wife is there?
Taking 1851 census, I thought it would be easy to find the birth certificate but none can be found with
parents Walter and Ann??
Is it possible anyone could do a look up again to see if there is another Mary Williams born circa 1850/51
Llanelli with father Walter - obviously I am not sure about the mother's name, as this may not be the right family.
Thank you
Regards
Helen

Hi Denise.
Thanks for replying to my email of last Saturday. - I appreciate the
information you provided.
I had also come up with the same four possible matches using FamilySearch.
The only problem was that I questioned whether the web-site's information
was 100 % complete regarding Pembrey christenings.
After more research I'm almost certain that my David William was
christened on 28/04/1794 and that his father was a William William.
Now to discover his mother's name!.
Kind regards
Richard, Halesowen
Hello, I have an ancestor, Edward Llewellyn Bowen born 1869
Llandilofawr, Carmarthen. His family is John Bowen 1835, Mary Ann
1836, Charles Rees 1860, Sarah J 1866,
John L 1867, Taliesin 1870, George 1873, Rees Thomas 1877 and Lewis
Gorony O. 1881.
My Question is this: I can't find a trace of them before 1881. John,
the father is the Parish Clerk. I think the marriage of John and
Mary Ann took place in 1858 in Llandilofawr. Do you show a marriage
between John and Mary Ann 1858? Do you see any other Census records
for Llandilofawr earlier than 1881? Thanks, Susan
