Hi Barb , There are many David Samuel names in my husband's tree but none
matched your dates. They are descended from Edward samuel born 1776
Llanelly and Anne Thomas born 1785 Llangennech and were connected with
Glynsylen and Caepontpren farms . Eventually many of the Samuel men went to
work in the mines in Ystradfodwg. I can't see a connection but please
contact me if I can help in any way . Chris

Hello Chris
The Rawlins Rees I am investigating had a son called Rawlins who was born in 1828 in Llandebie. I think he was christened on 20/7/1828 in Llandebie. Could this be the same Rawlins you are investigating? If so, I guess we could be related!

Hi Alison
My interest in Rawlins Rees lies with his grandson, also Rawlins Rees
born 1863, who married Caterine Jones in 1888. Therefore I have not
fully investigated exact dates for all the descendants of Rawlins Rees
1802 but do have a note of many of them in a short genealogical report
which I can send off list if you would like. I would suspect that he
died in Llandybie where the family appear to have settled.
I would be interested to learn which child of his is your ancestor.
Bye for now
Joy
I am researching the family of :
Rawlins Rees, born 1802 in Aberbythych Llanfihangel. I believe he was married to Mary Evans and they lived in Llandebie.
I have located them back to the 1841 census but have now hit a brick wall. I wonder if anyone else is researching this family?
Also, does anyone know if there a way of searching burials online so that I can find out when Rawlins Rees died?
Any help gratefully received
Regards
Alison Lynch

Hi Barb
I had contact (about 2-3 years ago) with a couple of people who have SAMUEL links with my NURSE family. David (b. 1856) and Sarah (b. 1861, m. Henry WOOLLON). Millicent, d. Sarah and Henry married Thomas NURSE.
Does this fit in with any of your Samuel's?

Hi Lyn,
Thanks for your help.
Was it common to have a two hundred pound bond? maybe as he had no intentin of not going thru with the marriage it would be okay, but wouldnt you have to make sure he could actually cover this amount?
Was it usual for everyone to have a marriage bond? If not then why would Walter have had one??
Again thank you for your help, it was really appreciated.
My second problem is i cant find Tabitha CHAPLAIN or Walter JONES prior to the 1830's. After this date they were in Western Australia.
Walter was b 1777 Llandefeilog
Tabitha was born 1781 Eglwys Cymmun
and they married 27 june 1807 Llandefeilog
There children were all born in Llandefeilog
They are to early for census, and i have wondered around Ancestry but am at a loss as to where to search next.
Any ideas and directions would be greatly appreciated
have a wonderfull day
Karen
Sounds like you mean a marriage bond Karen as the actual marriage is a
contract.
>From http://genealogy.about.com/library/glossary/bldef-marriagebond.htm
In earlier times, a marriage bond was given to the court by the intended
groom prior to his marriage. It affirmed that there was no moral or legal
reason why the couple could not be married and it also affirmed that the
groom would not change his mind. If he did, and did not marry the intended
bride, he would forfeit the bond. The bondsman, or surety, was often a
brother or uncle to the bride, not necessarily a parent. The bondsman could
also be related to the groom, or even be a neighbour or friend, but those
situations occurred less often.
The Welsh ones I have often name one of 3 places where the marriage may take
place.

Lyn

Hi all,
i am a little bit confussed regarding a marriage contract.
Walter Jones married Tabitha Chaplain
The conntract was for 200 pounds, this seems an awfull lot of money for
someone who didnt seem at al wealthy.
The contract was between Walter Jones and Harry Williams. Who was Harry??
shouldnt it be the father of Tabitha, who i am possitive is Hendry/Henry
Chaplain. the certificate is dated 20th June 1807.
The money seems to be held by the the right Reverend Thomas Low, Bishop of
St Davids.
Am i reading the contract properly?
Any help would be appreciated, as i seems to have hit a brick wall

Hi
New to this list and hoping someone may be researching him too?!
I have a David Samuel born abt 1822 Llanelly Carmarthenshire.
He married an Ann Morgan nee Lisle in 1852 in Monmouthshire. On the marriage cert it states his father as being David Samuel(occupation Collier). as was David jnr
I have found 2 David Samuel in 1851 census but not sure which is possibly mine!... both were staying in Merthyr Tydvil... one was staying with a William Samuel (possibly brother?).... the other lodging with a family.
Cant seem to find what maybe my david in the 1841 census
Anyone reseearching surname Samuel that these Davids could possibly tie in with?

Barb
Hello,
I have no idea about the Welsh customs about this, but in the US they used to have "marriage bonds" that were often secured by a friend of the groom. They were to only be paid if it later turned out there was a reason the marriage should not have been made (the groom was already married, etc.). Perhaps this is what the marriage contract was?
I'd be interested in the REAl answer! LOL!

Hi,
I was just having a go at "poucher"--I thought maybe it could be "pncher" and my feelings were that maybe a puncher would punch or cut out the tim shapes, but "puncher" isn't on the list of jobs that was post, so I have no idea! Good luck.

Has anyone come across the occupation 'Poucher in Tinworks'?
I have Sarah J NURSE aged 15, d. Edgar and Eliza A in the 1891 census, which gives her occupation as poucher in tinworks. The word poucher is quite clear on the original census form.
Her father is a pickler and her older sister is a scourer in the tinworks - I've worked out what these two occupations were, but can't find any reference to what a poucher might do.
Thanks,
Denise
Could it be "puncher"?
