How interesting. There was a Miss Maliphant from New Road teaching in the
Girls Grammar School when I was there. She was my history teacher, I wonder
if it would be the same person?

Although you can't see the page it links to without paying a subscription,
if you Google *just* Miss V. Maliphant, it tells you the following within
the link to the page you can't see without paying $25:
Miss V. Maliphant, 2, New Road, Llanelly, Car- marthenshire, has been

Kind regards. Maureen
Thank you very much for trying to explain to me what Probation Journal was.
I aould like to know if a Probation officer would have anything to do with
adoption because that is how I received the name Miss V Maliphant and I
think she had something to do with organising the adoption of a child in
1947 and I do not know how to get the info to do with that.

Hi there Mary,
By putting "probation journal" into google, I found the following page:
http://www.uk.sagepub.com/journalsProdDesc.nav?prodId=Journal201647
which includes the words:
"Established in 1929, Probation Journal is a leading, peer reviewed journal that provides a national and international forum for sharing good practice, disseminating high quality criminal justice research and developing debate about the theory and practice of work with offenders. The Journal is read in 25 countries, and has gained a reputation for publishing material which is both of a high quality and accessible to a wide readership."
By putting probation journal and Miss V. Maliphant in, I came up with a family history page here:
http://geoffsgenealogy.blogspot.com/
and another page on the Probation Journal Site which only gives me the first page of the pdf. I can't know for sure, but I presume that Miss V. Maliphant was one of the "New Members Elected: National Association of Probation Officers
Probation Journal.1942; 4: 15" It costs $25 to see the article!!
http://prb.sagepub.com/cgi/reprint/4/1/15
The genealogy blog led me to the Maliphant Jamboree page here:

Hello Listers,
I am stunbling around in the dark with this.
Can anyone tell me what a Probation Journal is please.
It would be during the years 1945 or 1947.
Miss V Maliphant had something to do with it.
I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks John for your response. It may well be that Catherine and Ruth and the two Harry men are related. For the Harry arrival in Oz in 1838 I'm working on second hand information from my son-in-law's grandmother. I have someone checking out the 1841 census for Llanelli for me. Regards. Maureen
Hi Pauline,
I am looking for a birth of Thomas Jones in Llangennech, the year would be around 1810 according to the later census records. Would you be able to check this for me,
Many thanks,
Anne
Hi Richard
I have been in contact with Heather Smith [heather.smith8(a)virgin.net] who
seemed to have lots of the Llanarthney Parish info. She was most helpful and
gave me the information I required very quickly. She is not a member of
CFHS.
I hope you find what you are looking for.

Good afternoon.
I hoping that there's a kind person out there with access to parish
records at Llanarthney for the first half of the nineteenth century, as I
eager
to discover the burial dates of my 4G grandparents.
I have limited information on the couple but do know:-
Grandfather
Name: Rees JOHN
Year of birth: c.1771
Grandmother
Name: Hannah JOHN (nee JONES)
Year of birth: c.1794
The couple married at Llanarthney Parish Church on 21 October 1796.
Hannah gave birth to three children in the parish between 1797 and 1801.

It was with great regret that I read of the death of Tony Finnemore in last Wednesday's Llanelli Star. He was a geat help to me with my Five Roads families and had a great knowledge of genealogy. He was active on this site when I first joined. Chris
I am new to this mailing list and was wondering if anyone was researching the HARRY and THOMAS family. I am interested in a JOHN HARRY born approx 1809 Llanelly Carmarthenshire and a RUTH THOMAS details unknown. I have found somewhere that the couple married in 1833. They had two sons JOHN and GRIFFITH. By 1838 they had migrated to South Australia. These are members of my son-in-law’s family and would like to perhaps connect with family they left behind in Wales. Hi there,
Having just rejoined the list, I thought I would say hello and give a link to some books I found on the internet archive which may be useful to researchers.
My name is Fee Berry, and I have been researching my family history for over 20 years. My great-grandfather, Charles Henry Hughes Spivey was born in Carmarthen, as was his mother, Maria Hughes b 1838.
Her father, Charles Henry Hughes, was a solicitor and land tax commissioner, born in Carmarthen in 1807. He seems to be a bit of a mystery as he is shown in two censuses staying with his mother, while his children are with their maternal grandmother. I can't find his birth in the online record, although all his siblings are there.
I have only recently discovered that his father was John Hughes, Merchant, and his mother was Sarah Spence. I haven't been able to find any records for Sarah Spence's birth in about 1769 (according to her entry in 1841 census), but I feel sure that I will be able to find more information if I dig. I now have a copy of John Hughes's will from 1829, which mentions a number of ships, so maybe that will offer a route for obtaining information.
I searched the internet archive for Carmarthen, and was amazed to come up with two books of the registers from the 14th - 16th centuries for St David's Carmarthen. I'm nowhere near ready for 16th century family history, but I feel sure there may be someone on the list who would find the link useful. The internet archive allows you to browse online, or to download a copy of the book as a pdf or as a text file. There's also a history of Kidwelly which might come in useful too.

Hope that's useful to someone!

follows--------------

brothers and sisters as can be seen from below.............
brodyr- plural of brawd - brother
a /and chiorydd/ chwiorydd- plural of chwaer- sister
