HI,
RE : Pauline's email today - no messages since 12th Oct........
Could sks please look at 1841, 1851 and 1861 census returns for
ABERGWILLI, Carms for the
abovementioned couple (see my post 30 September ...) my great
great grandparents, who were said to be
living there in 1856.
Have just returned from 2 weeks in hospital - so would be very, very
grateful for any help - I need cheering up!
Kind regards to all.

Hi Rhodri

Hi
I have just recieved a birth cert of ANN WILLIAMS born 4 May 1848 in Blanecille Llangafelach I am trying to trace the marriage of her parents THOMAS WILLIAMS and as I have just found out the maiden surname of her mother ANN THOMAS. ANN has an older sister ELIZABETH by 3 years according to the census who is my G grandmather I can not find her birth date ( a Cousin says she has been told August 1845) either so went for Ann`s instead.
THOMAS is from Llanon so marriage could have been in Carmarthen or Swansea area as Until Thomas`s death they remained in that area when ANN finally came to Neath to live with daughter ElIZABETH and died atthe age of 101.
My Walls Marriage of THOMAS and ANN. and did either have siblings? What happend to Ann after 1851 who did she marry,? and date of Elizabeths birth
With names like THOMAS and WILLIAMS holding out for a miracle that someone somewhere is related who are also looking for more info got loads to share.
Althea
Diane from Burry Port has informed myself that Carmel Chapel on the Graig is
still conducting services at this Chapel....thus it is still going strong.
It is not a place where one would demolish and remove the many hundreds of
graves which are there.......

I have just searched 'Google Earth' at the following coordinates:
Imagery Date: 5th Mar 2006
51 41 51 82 N - 4 13 58 06 w
Carmel Chapel was there in 2006 , maybe it has been demolished since then
Please check it out
Regards
Richard
HI Rhodri
I do not think that Carmel Chapel has been taken away........not that I have
heard anyway.....I would think it very unlikely....maybe in the vicinity.
You do know that we have taken photos of all the existing headstones and of
the chapel of Carmel inside and out?
I will send someone to investigate.....!!!
Hope you are well......thanks for the 'walk' around Moreb area.....yes, the
tunnel could well have been used for booty storage, as it was a real
smugglers paradise in its time, calling many ships to their inevitable
death......especially Cefn Sidan area.
regards Pauline

Hi Pauline and Listers;
My cousin has just forwarded a death certificate for my our great grand
Aunty; she died 31 Dec 1947. For the greater majority of her life [we
thought all her life] she had been in the care of her sister at the family
home.
Her death certificate says she died at "1 Penlan Road Saint Peter Carmarthen
U.D."
Under occupation it says " of 19 Wellfield road Saint Peter Carmarthen U.D.
Spinster daughter of.." She never worked!!
Under description and residence of informant, it says "M. Evans Occupier 1
Penlan Road Carmarthen"
There is an outside possibility of M Evans being a relative, but if that was
the case why the U.D. which I believe stands for Urban District.
Does anyone know is 1 Penlan Road may have been a private nursing facility
in 1947?
Can anyone shed any light on this please.
Greg
Hi Rhodri
It still shows up on Google earth - and the Coflein site write up is
dated August 2009.

Hi there,
Thanks for the information so far!
The Danywaun address is on the 1851 census for Pembrey.
The Moreb Fach address is on the 1861 census for Pembrey (Hamlet of, I think, Pendryn). David Charles snr was living with Elizabeth and four children, Elias, Elizabeth, Ann and David jnr.
The 1871 census causes MANY problems for me...! Elizabeth seems now to have married William Morris, despite my grandfather having no knowledge of that! The children (still with surname Charles) are present. So, David snr must have died in the interim?
I found a grave at Bethlehem Baptist Chapel in August, but the dates don't seem to match at all, leaving my head spinning! There is a David Charles there (1830-1884), also wife Elizabeth (also 1830-1884), Elias (1852-1873) and Mary (1862-1880). May be another Charles family with same names and approximate dates. The other children are not named, so with the evidence I gathered below, a false lead I feel.
David Charles jnr married Mary Jane Jones in 1881 at the Tabernacle Baptist Chapel, and David Charles snr is deceased at this point, invalidating the gravestone above.
Cheers for the help so far, any thoughts and ideas gratefully accepted!
Dave

Will see what I can find.....I found a cousin whose great grandmother and my
great grandmother were sisters......his Catherine Davies married a John
Charles from Pembrey this was in 1879, his father was David Charles, these
were from Pembrey (Burry Port) parish....David Charles was a master
mariner......
There was a large copperworks in Llanelli and also in Burry Port Pembrey
parish......my great grandfather Thomas Davies worked in both Llanelli and
Burry Port Copperworks as a furnaceman........the stack of the copperworks
in Burry Port was not demolished that long ago, as I can still remember
it......
Which census did you find Moreb Fach and Danywaun...there is a place named
Moreb in Pembrey parish.....which is next to Llanelli parish....There are a
number of different Charles family around the Pembrey Llanelli areas....

Hello there,
I have been researching my family tree with the help of my 90 year old grandfather, originally from Pwll, who is trying to discover the Charles ancestors in his family.
I know that his grandfather (my great great grandfather) was called David Charles and was born in 1859. I have found his birth certificate and know that his mother was Elizabeth Charles nee William(s) and his father was also David Charles. From censuses I have David Charles senior and Elizabeth living at what looks like Moreb Fach in 1851 and what looks like Danywaun in 1861. David Charles senior seems to disappear after that.
First question that someone may be able to help with is where were/are Moreb Fach and Danywaun?
I have found a wedding certificate for a David Charles to an Elizabeth Williams in October 1850 and it looks like it was at Carmel Chapel Pembrey. Does this chapel still exist? I live in Kent now, but am visiting my parents back home in 2 weeks time. Has anyone got any ideas of how I might be able to find more about this? eg chapel records - to see if I can find more on David Charles snr.
On David Charles juniors' birth certificate it states that David Charles snr was a Copper Works labourer. Where might this have been? And where might I be able to find records? Were they only in North Wales? This might link in with my grandfather's insistence that David Charles snr was somehow linked to Charles the Bala - although I wonder if this is family invention.
David Charles jnr's wedding certificate states that David Charles snr is deceased and was a Game Keeper. This was on the Cilymaenllwyd/Stepney estate according to my grandfather (poosibly Penllech farm?). Certainly David Charles jnr lived at Penllech cottages and built a house called Bryngobaith near Holy Trinity church.
I hope this hasn't been too much of a ramble, I am finding this strand of the family tree a bit of a chinese puzzle! David Charles jnr and his family is fine, it's the generation before that intrigues me!!
Any help much appreciated!!

I was told that my nain was brought up by her grandmother because her parents died.
I have found her, along with three younger brothers I didn't know she had, as inmates in the 1911 census in the Llanelli workhouse. On her marriage certificate (1922) she puts her father as deceased.
This all fits with the story I was given by my mother (her daughter-in-law). My problem is that I can't find her parents in the 1911 census index (and they're not in the workhouse) or anywhere in the death registers. I've looked through from 1901 (when I know they were alive) through to 1980 (when they would be 101 years old) several times - both in the books at the FRC when it was open and online.
I'm thinking of contacting the local record office in case the deaths were registered, but didn't get as far as the central records. Is there anything else I might try?

Hello list,
Wonder who can find my Daniel Evans and Samuel Evans from Pwll in 1891 or
1901 census. Both sons of Timothy Evans.
Daniel 24 in 1891 and Samuel 13. Both born at Pool, Pembrey.
Elwyn./ Netherlands.
Hi,
I got so excited to see your post! no one EVER asks about copper workers! My entire Welsh family were copper smelter men. I also have CHARLES by marriage in the line--and they were from Wales. I'm not sure where in Wales (99% sure it was GLA or CARM)., but I do have coppermen in my family who worked for a time at the copper works in Llanelli. My group all came to the US in the late 1830s-40s, but I think the CHARLES bunch might have come a little later. My other family names are DAVIES (DAVIS), REES(E), PHILLIPS, and JAMES. REESE, and PHILLIPS were all in Llanelli in 1841. DAVIES were in Pontardulais and Cnap Coch.
Common male names were John and Henry CHARLES.
There were several copperworks (smelters) around Swansea and Skewen back then, too.
Good luck. I know my info probably isn't connected, but, as I said, I was excited! :)

Hello list,
Who can find my James Davies in 1861 census. Possibly at Blaencillech,
Llandyfriog. Age 17 at that time.
James Davies may have married near 1863.
He died very young, only 27 in 1870.
Strange enough he is not buried with his wife, but with his parents in law.
They were only mentioned James, died 6-5-1870 and Mary 27-05-1865.
Elwyn.
Hello and thank you Paulene.
I am looking for infomation about Megan Lewis, she was born in Camarthen in
1921 and in 1947 Megan married Eric Phillips.
I would like to have contact with anyone who knows of her or any of her
relatives.
Thanks for any help.
