Hi
I am researching the HAND family who came from Narberth, Pembrokeshire. William HAND born about 1798. was married to Elizabeth CUMMING and they 6 children - William HAND (1819), John Kenneth HAND (1821), Thomas HAND (1823), George Smyth HAND (1824, mariner, emigrated to NZ and became a lighthouse keeper), Eleanor Smyth HAND (1826) and Sarah Mary HAND (1830). William (1798) was a land surveyor. The family moved to the Llanelli area of Carmarthenshire. Elizabeth died in 1842 and William remarried in 1843 at Llanelli to Jane NEWMAN. They had two children born in Llanelli - Isabella Emma HAND (1844) and Emily Jane HAND (1846). They also had another daughter Juliana Charlotte HAND (1848) born in London.
John Kenneth HAND married Anne Rachel WEDGE (1813) in 1856 at Swansea. Anne was born in Pembrey, the daughter of John WEDGE and Jane WILLIAMS.
Thomas HAND (1823) married Jane RODERICK (1825) in 1847 at Llanelli. Jane was born in Llanelli, daughter of Thomas RODERICK and Ann CHALLONER. Thomas and Jane had twins born in London on 15 November 1850, who died shortly after being born - George Roderick HAND and Sarah Mary HAND. They also had two children born in Llanelli - Margaret Jane HAND (1856) and Roderick Kenneth HAND (1863).
Margaret Jane HAND (1856) married Arthur Witter SWINDELL (abt1860) in 1884 at Llanelli.
Roderick Kenneth HAND (1863) married Sarah REES (abt1867) in 1889 at Llanelli.
Does anyone have any further information on this family?
Thanks

I recently purchased my grandparents marriage certificate 1909
registered in Pontardawe - though they were resident in Llanelly and Swansea
at the item, they married out of town (prob. for family reasons which I can
guess).
My granddads address sounds plausible for swansea
Vera Road Clydach though i am uncertain why
Rhyndwyclydach was appended to the end and what it refers to
i could not find my grandmother's address on the internet
i here transcribe it from a xerox of the registrar's handwriting and prob
i have added mistakes of my own
Cefnpa te Terrace
Ynisforgan, Clave Rural (Rasal?)
would that be Llanelly, Swansea or somewhere else?
the other question relates to the witnesses - would they just be witnesses
of the marriage who happened to be in the office - or would they be
witnesses that they knew the couple, ie friends or relatives of the couple?
i would be grateful for any info
thanks
mervyn
Clydach is about 2 miles or so off the M4 , not too far from Llansamlet.
Ynysforgan is near the same motorway junction - all in Swansea. The area
could well be Clase.

Hi Jane
I can confirm that James Morgan Pugh was not baptised in Llandybie parish
church, there were no baptisms to a James Pugh in that parish from 1813 to
1875....
I do not have a marriage of a James Pugh.....there is only one listed in
Carmarthenshire marriages 1754-1837 and that was of a James Pugh in 1829
from Llanfair ar y bryn

Hello Pauline,
Thanks for your email re Llandeilofawr burials. We've been away, hence
my not replying sooner.
I'd be grateful if you could have a quick look for these 2:-
I am looking for the deaths of Rachel ROWLAND & Rees ROWLAND; they were
married and their last child seems to have been baptised Dec. 26th 1759.
(Rees ROWLAND was baptised March 1731/2, but I don't know if ages at death
were recorded in the 1750's? He was certainly still alive in 1759, as above.)
I suspect Rachel died soon after 1759 but I could be completely wrong, so
please don't spend a lot of time on this - I could wait until it's all
on-line!
Thanks very much anyway,
Liz
PS I like all the new info on the web site - somebody (or lots of people,
perhaps!) has been working hard.
