Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi Angharad,
I will be going home in the fall and can check the archives and the
graveyard for you- if you can wait until then! I also have a lot of family
in Newchurch and area so am familiar with the graveyard in question. Do you
think they might have been buried in Bwlchnewydd by any chance? I can
always look there too. They are quite close together!

Thank you very much Pat for such a speedy reply. Strangely, I only found your answer by browsing the list and didn't actually receive any reply in my hotmail.

Dear list
If someone should be visiting the local archives office could they please check for the possible burials of the following family - I could then discover whether there is likely to be a grave at Newchurch
Reverend Aaron Roberts [one time incumbent of Newchurch. He was there in the 1861 & 1871 census] who died during the June qtr of 1884 age 49 [possibly when vicar of Llangadog]
wife Jane died Carmarthen June quarter 1901 age 69
and 2 children -
Aaron Roberts died March qtr 1865 age about 8 yrs
Jane Caroline Roberts died June qtr 1862 about 3 yrs old [both probably of Peter St, Carmarthen]
I would be grateful for any additional information
Thank you
Angharad
Thanks Pauline

Gaynor,
Many thanks for the info about Cwm. We couldn't see any sign for
the entrance. My GG Gf Simpson left Berwickshire in the 1820s and landed up
in Wales, marrying one of the Richards of Llanegwad. HIS parents are buried
only a few miles from where I live and I'd been passing within feet of them
for several years before I twigged. David farmed Glantowy. At the time of
marriage he was living in Llantrisant. One of his elder sons, John Simpson,
married a Gloucestershire woman and owned a draper's shop in Newport.
However, he returned to Llanegwad and farming, moving to Cwm which doesn't
sound as plum a site as Glantowy. I can't see signs of any Simpsons left in
the area. I heard too that the fund had suddenly swollen. It will be great
to get access to the churchyard.
I share your aversion to Welsh railways. The Bermuda Triangle has
nothing on the Welsh rail infrastructure. Getting from Cardiff Airport to
Llandeilo last summer was a total nightmare. The wait and facilities at
Swansea go a long way to explaining Dylan Thomas' drink problem.
Do you think they're ready for my
shearing cake recipe yet?
Sandie
Hello Geraldine
I'm guessing you are directing this question to me and the look up is
from the History of the methodists in Carmarthenshire by The Rev James
Morris.
Page 178 has this:-
" Many respected officials have served in the church in Llandeilo, such
as Mr Benjamin Roberts, The Excise. I remember this man who was of such
greast service to the cause, and also his son, Mr John Roberts, a genial
and generous man to the cause with his house open at all times to
ministers of the word. "
Cheers
Pat

I've been trying without success to search the 41 Census for the following
family, found on the 51 Census :-
Thomas Morris aged 55
Hannah Morris 47
Hannah Morris, dr 18
William Morris 15
John Morris 9
Margaret Morris 4
Martha Harries 9
They're living in 1851 at Trinant, Cilgwyn district of the parish of Nevern
- although this is misleading since Trinant is to the south of the mountains,
and just north of Rosebush.
I think Thomas and Hannah [senior] married early in 1846 and that Martha is
her child and Margaret the child of the second marriage. That would leave
Thomas and his children Hannah [my ancestor] and William - but where are they in
1841??
I know some of the contributors to this site are pretty all-knowledgeable
about Pembrokeshire, so please if any of you have a little spare time, I'd be
very glad of your opinions.
Yours in hope
Bethan
Thanks Pauline
Sadly i have already asked - its Llanfyndd i am after about 1793. There is
nothing on the IGI so i am stuck
Best wishes
Dave

Hi Pauline
Been away for a few days, sorry to have seemed not to have replied.
Going back to the BT s I saw - think that would explain why I couldn't work
out which year it was - the March of 1731 was really 1732 which would make
much more sense.
Thanks very much for that, I had forgotten about the change in year end.
Regards,
Liz
Hi Sylvia
Thanks for letting us know, hope you have a good response as I know you put
a lot of work into your CD's etc.....

Hallo there
Sorry I can't remember who was looking for Cwm Farm
not too long ago. You've probably found it by now (I
remember that you had a map showing where it was). I
remembered to ask my mother and she said it was very
low down, beneath the roadside, so that is probably
why you couldn't see it. She said the land tends to
get flooded.
Arrived back in London this evening after a wonderful
journey with First Gt Western (I'm being sarcastic, of
course). Got in my flat 6 hours after I left my
parents in Carmarthen; train was 45 minutes late, no
explanation.
Good news about Llanegwad Church; apparently £40K has
been donated by an American descended from people in
the locality.
Best wishes
Gaynor Carruthers

Hi Jan
you say that you may have found Rees Jones back to the 1841 census.....where
were they living at that time....?
Yes, it is Llanycrwys.....which is north of the border of
Carmarthenshire....I do not have baptism register for Llanycrwys.....
thanks Pauline

Hi Jan
what was her fathers occupation? I cannot see him in 1841
Llanfynydd......she could be a farm servant living in Pantyfedwen aged
29....
Where did the marriage take place, what was her abode at time of
marriage.....may help to pin-point her...
thanks Pauline
