I am trying to prove Henry Williams (b.abt 1782-1788 (depending on which census you look at in Llangenech) wife Elizabeth b.abt 1786 had a daughter Margaret born (probably Llanelly) about 1807. Another definite child was William Williams b.abt 1816 Llanelly. However as this is before the census begun it is going to be difficult. In 1841 Henry, Elizabeth and William were living at (Culcaig or Claig), Hamlet of Westfa, Llanelly. Does anyone have access to parish records, birth christening records from around this time who might be able help?
Henry's birthplace is listed as Llangenech
Thank you
In the property section of the Sunday Times yesterday I read that the
former Carmarthen Workhouse is on sale for £450,000 with planning
permission for numerous bijou ressies. It was recently council offices.
Wonder what the original inhabitants would have though?!

The workhouse was featured in the Home section of
yesterday's Sunday Times. I worked there when the
council used it for the Education Dept and it was grim
enough then. It has had several changes of use so
there is probably very little left of real historical
interest in the fabric of the building. No doubt, any
developer will be required to keep the facades.
Anyone interested it its history (including being
stormed by the Rebecca rioters)can look at:

Hello Chris
It was just one possibility - but your reason to dismiss using the age
on the marriage cert is a bit rash If you'll excuse my comment.
Many marriage certificate I have seen show incorrect ages for many
different reasons - also censu ages vary quite a lot from one census to
another.
So if William was really 25 in 1901 then in 1921 he would be about 45/46
which being only 3 years or so different from the 42 he quoted is well
within the usual boundaries.
All I'm saying is , don't dismiss totally , keep it filed just in case
especially after you info re his burial place.
Cheers
Pat

Hi Pat
Thanks for this. I have had a chance to look into this further.
The William Edmund Jane marriage fits nicely. William Edmund (43) and wife
Jane (43) were living at Henberdeg farm in the 1851 census (HO0107, Piece
2469, Folio 233, Page 7)
Is there are mention of the age of the William who died at Henberdeg farm in
1834. In the 1841 census Maragarett Edmond Farmer aged 60 (HO107, Piece
1379, Book 7, District 11, Folio 15, Page 3, Line 15) who potentially is
Richard and Williams mother is living at Henberdeg farm. Therefore
potentially he could be their father. Is anyone able to check whether a
William Edmund (or Edmond(s), Edmunds) married a Margaret in I guess from
1799 onwards?
On the same page in the 1841 census there is also an entry next to
Henberdeg, a Crusank (?) Hill, with a Charles Edmund (40), Mary Edmund (60),
Anne Edmund (20), Margaret Edmund (15). The Mary Edmund is a potential
sister to Margaret (or an alternative mother for Richard and William)??
There are various Edmunds, Edmund, Edmond, Edmonds in the area. I am not
sure if they are distinct families or just represent vatiations in spelling.
(for example, you can trace Richard Edmund through the census 1851 Edmond,
1861 Edmunds etc.)
Richard Edmund seems to have been a reasonably important member of the
community as he is mentioned in the Rebecca Papers
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/CMN/CMNAntBeccaPapers.html as an attendee
in Resolution 7 "Resolutions passed at a meeting of farmers and other
inhabitants". If you haven't come across this document before it has an
interesting (and sometimes gruesome!) record of the Rebecca riots.
Richard's association with Caerbigin farm remains throughout his life. The
last entry I have for him is in 1881 as an Annuitant at Caerbigin living
with his daughter Sarah and her husband John Thomas (RG11, Piece 5378, Folio
22, Page 10)

I had great grand father born in Llangan Carmarthen 1836 . Fathers name Thomas Thomas Mothers name unknown Benjamin married Mary Jane in Radnor in 1873 any good
Hi
I'm trying to find details of my Grandfather William Davies he was born
circa1879. He died about 1950. On 22 Oct 1921(age 42) he Married Ellen
Richards at Capel Colman Pembrokeshire. His second marriage. He lived at
the time at Primrose House Tycroes Ammanford.
His fathers name was Morgan Davies. William was an Ostler.
My Father Kenneth Teifryn was the only child from this marriage . He had 3
sons from his previous marriage. Gomer Caradog and Gwilym. Ellen died in
1938. William and Ellen lived in Tycroes alll their married lives.
Where can I find more information please.
Chris
For those members who have helped me on this I wanted to tell them that I have made more progress in finding my long lost uncle ( who emigrated to the USA in 1928) in the last week than in the previous five years. Culminating in a e mail today from the current US family ( now adult grandchildren) confirming the history and being enthusiastic to exchange information. I have 26 new US "cousins", but more important my 85 year old uncle from Pembrey ( Eric Owen Davies) has finally achieved some resolution.
Nearly 10 members helped, communicating directly and though the chat room, several actually researched for me and did a lot better than I did, thanks to all of you. As Charlotte Whalen found the reason the family disappeared in the 1930 census is that instead of Gerald Owen Jones he was listed in the transcription as Grald Janes!
What a great resource

Hi Roy
Do you think this could be the mother in 1841
Llanelly Glyn hamlet
Herberdeg
Margaret Edmond 60 farmer
John Edmond 20
Sarah Edmond 15
Mary Edmond 10
could be her and these are possibly grand-children
what do you think?
there are still Edmonds in Herberdeg in 1851
If you want more lookups let me know, but I have looked in Llanelli haptisms
and burials but cannot see them

I just received your message with attachments and replied a moment ago as follows
My reply...
Thanks so much, I do infact have these but I only found them myself a few days ago, they are for certain my great uncle and family. Also interesting is that the Margaret and children listing is repeated in the listing of Detained Aliens; apparantly Gerald did not meet them immediately and so they were detained--and later released. But the good news for me is that the Detained Aliens record listed Gerald's NY address ( W 114st in the Bronx) and that address is the same as the address on an old letter from the daughter Maureen who wrote to my father in the 1940s, so closing the loop with precision and certainty.
Thanks for thinking of me and helping, with the assistnace of several CFHS members I have made real progress on an old dead end. I have also found the mail addresses of the latest children ( now in their 40s) and have written a old fashioned letter to them. hopefully they will respond.

Dave, I found him on the manifest of the Berengaria, on 20 April in 1928, but he was travelling alone. Margaret and the five children followed, arriving in NY on 26 Apr 1929. I have sent you the images separately. I don't know how to get a response from your email contact, though.

Hi
Richard Edmund of Caerbigin farm, nr. Five Roads, Llanelly, b.abt 1811 is my 3rd great grandfather. He married Margaret Griffiths on 27 May 1833 (unconfirmed information from IGI). I had given up trying to find any more information about him until a search for Richard Edmund and Caerbigin brought up one of your old posts Pauline from Llanelly Guardian snippets 1865-66 Petty Sessions
27th July 1865 issue 113
Parish Case - William Thomas Llanedy summoned for non payment of £1-16s-3p
for maintenance for his mother a pauper aged 72. Agreed to pay weekly.
Similar cases against, Benjamin Thomas lab, richard Edmund of Caerbigin and
William Edmund of Heberdeg, were ordered to pay 1shilling a 3 pence towards
their mother, chargeable to Llanelly parish.
Unfortunately it doesn't say who the mother was, but implies Richard had a brother William Edmund and a brother Benjamin Thomas (presumably his mother re-married at some stage).
Has anyone come across Richard and/or his brothers before and therefore have some idea of his parentage, and/or are able to confirm his marriage to Margaret Griffiths?
Thanks
Have you tried looking for them on Whitepages.com I've been successful
using that site. If you have the death location you could probably
narrow the search down to that place.

I am sure some of you have had this problem and can give me some advice.
After years of looking I finally found an unambiguous listing for my long lost grandmothers brother. He emigrated to the USA in 1927 and from then on no heard a word. I just found him & wife ( deceased ) and family ( much alive) listed in an "Ancestry World Tree" there are several "living Jones" listed and an e mail address.
BUT despite several tries over many days no one responds to the email, it does not bounce back, there is simply no reply.
Is there any way I can search using the e mail address and get back to the person who originated it, or even the State or City etc. There is a name associated with the listing but it is Tom Jones and there are way to many Tom Jones's to cold call.
My grandmothers brother was Gerald Owen Jones, b 1890 in Trimsaran ( Gwydwr) , he left Burry Port in 1927 and then lived in the NYC, his wife was Margaret O Conner and they were married in 1915 at the RC Church in Llanelly. They had children when they left ( Maureen, Sylvan, Gwendoline, Michael)

the record office .
THOMAS RICHARDS of the parish of LLANEGWAD and ANNE RICHARDS of this parish

as being born in llanegwad about 1797 married as the same date i have on
record 4 oct 1818.spouse THOMAS RICHARDS,the marriage was llanllawdog,why
would they of married there if it wasnt her parish and why does the IGI
entry list the wrong place.is there any way i can confirnm that ANNE was
born in LLANLLAWDOG. the witness to marriage were DAVID RICHARD and DAVID
