Hi list
You have been very helpful in the past so I am asking for your assistance again.
I am trying to find the marriage and baptism of Charlotte Barn(e)s in St Ishmaels.
I believe from census records she was born c1827 to George and Sarah Barns.
She married a William Jenkins of Carmarthen. The marriage must have taken place around 1849 as their first child Sarah was born in St Ishmaels in 1850.
I was also wondering if anybody knows if the New Inn pub still exists in Cenarth/Newcastle Emlyn? It was run by an ancestor Margaret Esau in the 1830's and 40's.
Many thanks
Debbie
Hi Sandra
You could start by checking out the GENUKI sites for information about
the places
i.e.:-
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/CMN/Brechfa/http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/CMN/Llangunnor/http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/CMN/Llanddarog/
Regarding the marriage - it is not too easy with names like Thomas
Davies and Mary!!
However for a start you really need to find Mary's maiden name - unless
you know it already.
The best way is to look for the birth certificate of their son. From the
1891 census it seems the J is for John.
So my guess as a good possibility Ibut not guaranteed) from the
following website:-
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/
is this reference from the births index.
Births Dec 1878
Davies Thomas John Carmarthen 11a 770
You can send for a certificate online from the PRO website or you could
e-mail Carmarthenshire record office, who are very helpful, and ask
them.
Hope this helps you a bit

I have just returned from a two week tour of wonderful Nova Scotia and
while in the town of Shelburne came across a district sign called
Welshpool.
I later discovered that a number of settlers from Carmarthen and
Cardigan arrived in the county in 1818.
Does anyone know more of this. It was, apparently, the first Welsh
colony in North America. The rest of the county's inhabitants were
United Empire Loyalists who chose to leave America for Canada after the
War of Independence.
For decades the population of Shelburne was greater than that of
Montreal.

Which meant nothing to the younger hospital staff. When she stablilized, I told
her of this incident and she replied, Well he was a Welshman...Bill

Greetings Dave,
I don't know if this will help you any, as this isn't in one of the
locations that you mentioned. My ggg-Grandmother was Elizabeth Howell, born
about 1825 in Llanelly, Carmarthenshire. She married George Morris and
moved to Cwmavon in Glamorganshire. I don't have a lot on this individual,
but will share if you would like. I am also looking for anything on
Elizabeth, if you have anything additional on her and her family.
Please let me know if you are interested.

Thanks to Penri. I suspected that Glanaman was a village name. The mystery
is, that if GGG GF Evan Thomas was a farmer in 1813, why doesn't the name of
where he farmed appear in the Llandybie Parish Church register when his
daughter, Lettice, was baptised? The census of 1841 has her living at a
place called Cue Lodge with her mother, Mary. Can't find Cue House, let
alone lodge and neither are mentioned in the History of Llandybie.
Thickening plot

I believe I have now identified a possible first marriage for Thomas Lewis - to Margaret Daniel(s) in 1894 in Pembrey. Could anyone with access to Pembrey parish registers have a look for this.
If I am correct Margaret died in 1900, as Margaret Lewis obviously. I would also be interested to see if the burial registers confirm this, and if there are any baptisms of children to this couple.
Thanks
Merv Jones
Glanaman is a village not a farm, I haven't heard of a farm of that name. I
am interested in Rees from Glanaman, they lived in Tirbach which is just
north o Hen Fethel Chapel. I haven't found an Evan or a Lettice. There is
also another Rees family which were stonemasons/publicans who lived in the
Colliers Arms for a while but no agricultural link there.

Hi members I am resending this email (not sure if the first one came
through)
My quiery is on my husbands side of the family (so not Welsh) but thought
someone may have some ideas.
I have JAMES MARTIN born c 1802 in census returns he says he was born in
Whiston Yorkshire
He was involved with Whiston Parish Church as an organist for 40 years, he
married in 1826 and in 1833 local directory he was listed as a Teacher of
Music, in 1860 he was a Music Professor.
I have his marriage in 1826 but cant find his birth details in any parish
records or IGI or Ancestry.
Does anyone know if there could be anywhere else I could search to try and
find his details i.e. will there be any church records that could be of use
from when he was an organist that may show some light on who his parents may
have been/
Any suggestions would be much welcome
regards
Marie
