Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Can anyone give me the names of children of Evan Evans and Anne Thomas who
married Aug. 18, 1820 in Llanely, Breconshire?
Many thanks.

Hi Pauline,
Just got an e-mail fro a Mr Cooke from Carmarthen Record Office. He
thinks Theo is likely to be born at Llanboidy, but no parish records
there either. He has asked me if I know he was non-conformist. I know
that his daughter Mary was born in Pwllheli in 1835 and I looked at my
notes from my IGI searching and she was born at the local Wesleyan
Methodist Chapel in Pwllheli. They are the only Harris family in
Pwllheli at this time so I reckon this is right. Wesleyan is non-
conformist, right? I have e-mailed him with this info, so I'll keep you
posted.

Hi Pauline,
Yes £20 is steep and I hope they can do the research in that hour!
Surely its an easy name to find - Theophilus Harris - how many can
there be in Carmarthenshire born in 1802? They have basically 3 places
to look Llandybie, Llanboidy and Llandeilio Fawr.
What I'll do is give them a ring tomorrow and ask if they will do as
you suggest, just in case they will find it as difficult as it has us!

Hi Gwyn
Thanks for looking for me......I think that Caedu was on the way down the
hill on the left towards the town......but they moved from there and a
Williams family moved in, who was I believe the parents of Tom Nevin the
preacher.....
I have only visited there once, did not know that we were from north wales
until I started family history, my mother did not know much at all, not even
that her grandfather was the local lighthouse keeper, I know he died in 1913
before she was born....but....
Yes, thanks I do have access to the census, we used to sell the whole of
Wales for 1841 until ancestry came along, and more or less swiped all our
sales as you can imagine....
Many thanks for the offer......
speak soon Pauline

Hi Pauline,
Tried to look for your Aberdaron connections today and in relation to
the census we were only a couple of sheets apart. So I tried to find
their abodes on an 1891 map but could I find them? If census entries
were in some of order as they were taken then the 2 families would not
be far, provided the properties were not out in the country where
neighbours were not too near. Do you have acces to census information,
or is that a stupid question? If you need any sent down to you I be
glad to do the honours.
I had access to the 1891 maps through the site www.old-maps.co.uk very
useful for locating properties of ancestors, but I expect you know of
this already.

Please could somebody do a lookup in the 1891 in Carmarthen for a Martha Jane Williams (possibly born about 1886) whose father was David Williams a flannel weaver. That's all the information I have about them at the moment. I have found several David Williams' who were woollen weavers in Carmarthen St.Peter in the 1881 census and am wondering if any of them are likely candidates.
Thanks
Gill
Pauline,
Thank you so much for all the trouble you have taken to try to track down my elusive Evans family (they could certainly give the Invisible Man tips on how to remain hidden !!). It's quite a coincidence that you should have unearthed a Benjamin Evans, with a son John born at roughly the same time as my John, and who was living at the same address as my John was when he got married in 1874 - I wonder whether they could be related?
I've not been able to track the family back with any certainty further than the 1881 census.
I did make a note of two census entires that might or might not have any bearing on my search:-
1861 Llanfi-ar-arth. Dwelling: Troedrhiwgribin
Elizabeth Evans (Wife) 41 Born Llanddysil. Occ: Ag Lab's wife
Daniel Evans (Son) 14 Born Llanfi
John Evans (Son) 11 Born Llanfi
(Unfortunately the father was not at home for the census, so it is impossible to tell whether this John is mine).
1871 Llanfihangel-ar-arth. Dwelling: Gwernanacwydd
I found a John Evans (22), born Llanfi, listed as a farm servant with David Thomas (a farmer of 292 acres) and his family. Here again, I can't claim with any certainty that he is the "right" John.
It's getting to look as though my Evans ancestors (and also those from the James side too - as I've met with the same brick wall trying to find them in Troedyraur !) are going to remain a mystery.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to hunt them for me.
Moira.

Hi Pauline,
I'm headed towards asking the record office for an hour of their
valuable time. It would be the cheaper and quicker option I think. I've
got to make sure where to look first though, Llanboidy seems to be the
logical place to start. I bet he'll fool us all and he was born
somewhere like Powys or Cardigan! Sorry I haven't had time to go
through the census in Aberdaron yet. Exciting day for me yesterday as I
got a couple of surprise e-mails from my long lost cousins in
California. Apparantly they have tons of stuff about my Evans family,
which they are sending to me, including a picture of my great
grandmother who I have never seen one of. I will have a quick check
this weekend though.
