Hi Folks,
Edward Don/Donne/Dunn Lee was the sheriff of Carmarthenshire in 1588. His maternal grandfather, Sir Thomas Jones of Abermarlais, was sheriff in 1543. Edward married Anne Heywood, she the daughter of Richard Heywood.
I would appreciate any help in determining who Richard Heywood was and where he came from.
Regards
Tom Dunn, Kilbrittain, Co. Cork, Ireland
Gday Pauline,
I am afraid there is no date on the family tree that I
got this information from.
The only age I can be sure of is that Rachel Jones the sister of Nellie
Jones who married John Johns was born abt 1816. With 10 children there could
be I suppose a 15 odd year time frame either way.
If I have the right Ann Jones who died in 1875 she would of been between 41
and 43 when Rachel was born.
My best guess from that is that Nellie would of been born beween 1791 when
Ann would of been about 18 and 1823 when Ann would of been about 50.
Not a lot to go on I know but if you dont ask you will never know.
Thanks for your patience.
Regards
Trevor

Hello Helen
I have Llansawel on CD6.
What was the name you were looking for? Looking at the Index on Ancestry
there doesn't seem to be any Drummonds in Llansawel.
Cheers

Gday Pauline,
Some time back we were trying to trace John Jones
( labourer) father of my Rachel Jones born circa 1816 and didn't have a lot
of success.
I have now received some more information about his wife that may help work
backwards.
His wife's name was Ann or Nanny and when she died she was supposed to be
102 years old which would be extremely rare for that period.
The only Ann Jones I can find on Free BMD is an Ann Jones that died in
Llandilofawr in 1875 aged 100.
Other information is that John and Ann Jones had 10 children but the only
other child mentioned was Nellie that married a John Johns
This information comes from a scribbled family tree that was given to a
child of Rachel Williams nee Jones who was born in 1872
Further information on this tree is that Nellie and John Johns had the
following children
Ann, George , and Rachel who were all dead whenever this tree
was compiled
Elizabeth who married George Morris and had a child Nellie who
became a mrs Jenkins of Neath.
Ellen who married a Philip Morgan who had a son F J Morgan.
When I looked at the census's for Ann Jones of the right age from 1871 back
I could find 1 that was a coalminers widow and also a masons widow but
nothing I could be positive about..
I can send you the scribbled family tree that is a jpg file if you wish but
I would like to know if this information might help locate the Jones Family.
Sorry for being so long winded.
Regards
Trevor
Sorry, sent before I'd finished. www.archivesnetworkwales.info.
There is an admin./biographical history of the Edwinston Estates. Hope I'm
not wasting your time.

Hi Helen,
Have you looked at www.brawdybooks.com/edwinsford. there are several sources
of information listed. I noted Sir James Hamlyn Williams Williams-Drummond.
Maybe you already know of this but I thought I'd send anyway.

Hi Vivienne,
Thanks for your reply. I have visited the site showing Bawdy Books,
however, it just gives me details of the Williams-Drummond family and the heritage
and lineage etc. What I am after is in particular the Sir James Hamlyn
Williams Williams Drummond 1857-1913. I need to find out the names of his
brothers, hence I was trying to locate on the 1871 Census. I understand he had a
twin brother? All I know is that they are the Williams-Drummond Aristocracy
family of Edwinsford, which I believe is in Llansawel??
Thanks
Helen
Hi Pat,
Thanks for help. It is the family of Sir James Hamlyn Williams-Drummond who
I believe are of Edwinsford. Sir James H.W.Williams-Drummond (1857-1913) was
the eldest son of Sir James Williams Drummond, 3rd Bart who died in 1866.
I want to find out the names of the brothers of this Sir James H.W.
Williams-Drummond as I believe he had a twin brother.
Thanks
Helen
Viv,
Thank you very much for that. Although it gives a lot of info on the
family, I must search for the remaining brothers/sisters.
Thanks once again
Helen
Could SKS help please? I have 1871 Carmarthenshire CD9 and 5 from Carm.FHS.
I am trying to find Llansawel. Was it missing?
The reason being I am trying to trace the family of Sir James Drummond of
Edwinsford. I want to find out if he had any brothers, in particular a twin
brother, and wanted to track down census details to help me in my search.
Thanks and hoping someone might point me in the right direction.
Regards
Helen

Hi Pauline,
Now you can see how frustrated i am with this. There i was thinking i was in
possession of all the facts and......
I have ordered his marriages to the Nation girls and hope that will show
something.
Even his kids names don't really help all though the oldest girls second
name was Eleanor and the youngest son Alexander David George (George was
Caroline's father...David for Thomas'?)

HI Pauline, thanks for the interest. We tend to think he was in Treborough,
Somerset in the 1861 with a wife Ann. He then married Charlotte Edbrooke
(maiden name of Nation) and upon her death a few years later he married her
sister Caroline Nation.
We thought he may be the Thomas Lewis age 8 in Llanddeusant with Rees Evans
and Eleanor Evans but she was the widow Eleanor Edwards when she married
Rees in 1836?
And yet no one else really fits the picture.....
I am in the process of ordering the marriage certificate of Thomas and
Caroline in Bristol to see what it says. Generally Thomas was an Engine
fitter/Engineer/Engine driver...depending on what census or certificate one
is looking at or a blacksmith on immigration as well as all his sons. (None
of whom blacksmithed in Australia.)
Another interesting question is who is the William Lewis who came out to
Australia with them. Also listed as a blacksmith...from the same place (all
given as Monmouthshire) age 23 in 1887. I had assumed he was a son to one of
Thomas previous marriages but he is not listed on Thomas' death certificate
(but then nor where his previous marriages)?
Thanks this is what i have to go on till i receive the marriage cert.
Regards Amandal.

David Jones according to a census, was b.1816 Carmarthen. He went to Dorset to work as a moulder and met Jane Milsom b.1815 in Symington DOR and married her in 1936 at Southampton,HAM. They moved to St. Dogmaels,PEM. He worked in Cardigan Town as a moulder. That is all I know of him. I know his children, but nothing of his siblings or parents. Sally
Hello Pauline,
I have a question maybe you can answer for me. In the census and some church records it says Llysendy, Llandeilo Fawr, is that the name of a street or a house or the name of a town? Is that still there? Is there any way to find out where my relatives lived?
Thank You,
Ron Rees
Hi Amanda
Been looking through my marriage index to match an Elinor with a surname
Edward.......this could be the one
1829 26th November Llanddeusant parish church
David Edward and Elinor MORGAN
we know that Elinor Edward was a widow when she married Rees Evan.......this
is the burial of her husband I think
1834 10th November Llanddeusant parish church
David Edwards, Wernddu, aged 43
well the abode matches, so Elinor was living there....BUT we still have the
wrong surname for her......where did the surname Lewis come from......at
least these are proving easier to find!!
Is anyone belonging to this family????
Pauline

Hi Amanda
Can see that Pat has also found the family for you.......
The information seems to be sketchy .......but where did Thomas get his
middle name of 'Edward' from........worth a thought!! But then where did
his surname of Lewis come from......every answer creates a question - was
her maiden name Lewis??

Hello Amanda
I got quite interested in this one.
I think I have found yout Thomas in all the census from 1841 to 1881 but
there are some complications.
The Caroline shown as his wife in the 1881 census seems to be a second
wife as in Treborough.Somerset in 1861 he is shown with a wife Ann aged
29 - no children.
I believe Caroline is the Caroline Matilda Nation daughter of George
Nation Miller of Clatworthy and his wife Harriet ( daughter of Mary
Purchase)
Does this match with your details?
Do you have his marriage certificate?
If not I believe this is the marriage.
Thomas Lewis and Caroline Matilda Nation December quarter of 1869
registered in Bristol district volume 6a page 59.
You may already know all this - if not I can send you more details off
list - but you really need a copy of the marriage certificate which you
can order online.
In 1841 I believe your Thomas Lewis is living in Werddu in Llandeusant
with his brother David (aged 6) where they are stepsons of Rees Evans
who has married Eleanor and they have children Margaret 4, Gwenllian 2
and Anne 3mths.
1851 census is complicated because Thomas has left home, David is still
in Wernddu and Rees and Eleanor are shown as aged 37 and 41 resp. but
all their children (apart from david) are shown with the surname
Rogers!!! - I think this must be a slip of the enumerator as both
Gwenllian and Roger (being the most uncommon of the children's names)
are registered as Evans.
I still can't see a marriage of an Elinor Jeffreys - but as Thomas is
only 8 in 1841 and his father has already died maybe he ghot the name
wrong in later years??? It will be interesting to see what is on his
marriage certificate.
Rees Evans married Elinor Edwards (a widow) in Llanddeusant on 20 May
1836 by license.
I think I had better stop there in case You have a lot of this already.
let me know the position and if you want more details of the census.
Cheers
Pat
