I'm looking for the names of John Rees' parents.
John was born in Llanarthney in 1796/7. He died 08/04/1869 aged 73 years and
is buried at Sardis Chapel, nr. Llanedi.
Known siblings: William (born c1800, Llanarthney) and Rees (born 1801,
Llanarthney).
Thanks
Richard
Pauline, thanks for the information - I wasn't really fishing for the names
of Jane's parents but you findings are great!!.
I've always been told that there were BONNELLS way back in our family, but
actually finding details about them has been marvellous.
I assume "Tynewydd" is a name of a house or farm.
Thanks once again
Richard
Richard - I happened to be researching this site when I found a
reference to Bonnell. I hope it may be of interest.

Thomas Davies married Elizabeth David marriad 1824
Llangain.....
Children John, David, Mary and Rachel
Thomas died 1857 Wales, not long after Elizabeth and her children travelled to Victoria Australia, to join her daughter Mary
Mary was convicted of theft in 1842 and sent to Tasmania
She married John Murray and they eventually settled Victoria where they raised their family
I would like to know if this family appear in any of the census 1841 & 1851 where were they living and are there any more family listed
I do not have much more information.
thanks

Elizabeth - only found out details of my Bonnell connection in Pembrey
within the last week and haven't, as yet, taken it any further.
Sorry!!!!

Through recent research I've confirmed that I'm a descendent of the BONNELL
family from Pembrey, Carmarthenshire.
The connection is by way of my 3xG grandmother, Jane BONNELL, who was born
c.1800 in Pembrey.
In 1823 she married a David WILLIAM(S) also from Pembrey.
In 1841 Jane was living at Lando, Pembrey, whilst David was living in Bryn,
Glamorgan. By 1851 Jane had joined David in Bryn.
To my knowledge BONNELL is quite an unusual surname in the UK and suggests
to me a possible French connection.
Is there anyone out there who has more information on this family.
Thanks
Richard

Hello,
Could someone please advise me in what cemetery someone would most
likely have been buried if they lived in Llandefeilog in 1938 when they
died? Thank you.
Regards,
Lynn in Calif.

Re your message, Nicholson's Book number one page 46 clearly shows a map that has the Furnace IronworksTramway going from the Iron Works to the Harbour ( the old Pembrey Harbour) BUT there other tramways also, the Glo Caled tramway and the Embankment Tramway also leading down to the Harbour.
I know the area quite well and spent many hours there, the Embankment tramway was the largest and is still very easy to see ( and walk on), it traverses what is today the Ashburnham Golf course and is a pain for the golfers.
I would be happy to copy the pages from the book with the map and send them to you, afterall you are too far away in Monument CO

I've just joined the mailing list and am interested in knowing if anyone has information about a David or Henry Lloyd in Llandyfaelog or vicinity c. 1700-1730. David and Henry appear in Virginia in 1743 but we have no information about their origins. Two pieces of evidence link them to Llandyfaelog. One is a very close DNA match to a descendant of Morgan Vaughan who was living there in the 1730's. The other is the apparent residence in Llandyfaelog at that time of a Joseph Marks (with later son John), whose descendants started a fine arts gallery (E. Stacy-Marks) that includes this information in its history page. A John Marks, brother Joseph, was Henry Lloyd's Baptist pastor in Virginia and a John Marks witnessed his 1802 will.
I was planning on looking into parish records, if available, but wanted to see if anyone had already knew anything about this family.
Thank you for your assistance.

The frustrating thing is that I haven't been able to find a corresponding
match in the marriage indexes. One would think there would be a dozen
Elizabeth Williams and Evan Davis marriages.
Do you have the marriage cert of Evan Davis/ies and Elizabeth Williams, it
will confirm who his father was......just a thought.......

Thanks for the good advice. My first birth cert search will be for my
grandfather, John Davis. Not an easy one as you might imagine particularly
since he listed his birth year as 1866 and 1871 at different times. I've
settled on 1871 because I believe he lied about his age in order to work in
the mines in Ohio. The law was 12 but it was quite common for younger boys
to claim to be 12 in order to work. It also makes more sense since the
next son, Morgan, was born in 1872 and all the rest of the children arrived
in quick succession. I've also tried a couple of likely 1866 and 1867
listings with no luck. Surprisingly, I only have three or four possible
Johns in suitable quarters in the UK indexes. The family emmigrated about
1873 and show up on the 1880 Ohio census right where they should be and with
John claiming to be 13. He's listed as an unemployed coal miner.
I haven't been successful finding a marriage record overlap for Evan and
Elizabeth in an index search. Her maiden name was Williams and if my 1871
census couple in Merthyr is them, she was born in Neath. Surprisingly, they
are the only John and Elizabeth Davis (or Davies) couple that I could find
searching the 1871 census index. Since John's birthday is in August, he
wouldn't have been born as so is not listed which is another bit of info
that gives me more confidence about this couple.
Assuming I can get a cert for John ( a long shot) then I should have more
solid information to search for Evan. Otherwise, this is all speculation
but based on some pretty good circumstantial evidence. I've been trying to
get more info on the Welsh community in Palmyra, Ohio, assuming that it
might give me a clue or two about their origins, but there's surprisingly
little. Its a very rural town and the Welsh seem to have vanished. The
Welsh Cemetery is still there, but the Welsh Church is long gone. The
Methodist Church had a fire and its records went up in smoke!
Thank You Pauline, do you have any idea when the 1806 and 1807 baptisms
will become available?
