Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I thought you'd enjoy this poem received from another list. Merry Christmas!

Veronica, I have Evans from Llangunnor in my line, very directly -my gg
grandmother was a Rachel Evans. She married Thomas Thomas and they lived in
Llanelly. He died fairly young and I have traced her living back in
Llangunnor with her parents after his death. Will get out my file and let
you know more details later... Finishing Christmas preparations right now.

Anne,
I'm not sure if you live near Carmarthern but if you do call into the library and you need to go through the The Carmathern Journal Newspaper from about Aug 1914 on ward.
In there they will actual state the men who joined up. In addition they will have stories of individuals who have written home or snippets about sons/fathers in the war. I found my grandfather with the date he joined up and also 3 stories about him when he was in the 9th Welsh Fusiliers and being wounded and freinds he meet up with! He Lived in Blaneau so quite close to you grandfather! They may have known each other.
If he joined up and then became a miner during the war there a chance he may have been wounded and discharged.
you say that you looked for his war medal card but i assume you could not find it?. If you have his medals look on the side his number will be on the side. It may even be on his Marriage cert
If you get a chance I suggest you look at the newspaper anyway as it give an insite in to the solders lives and give it very much a human angle to it all.
One one other suggestion if you want to know more is also find the war dairy of the 4th Welsh which will be in PRO and in the Regiment Museum which I think is in Cardiff Castle.
Im not on expert regiments but I assume you mean he was in the The Welsh Regiment. if so here some info
The Welsh Regiment
Territorial
1/4th Battalion
August 1914 : in Carmarthen. Part of South Wales Brigade, which was Army Troops, unallocated to a Division. 17 April 1915 : attached to 159th Brigade, 53rd Division. 8 October 1915 : amalgamated with 1/5th Bn, forming 4th Welsh Composite Bn. Resumed original identity 10 February 1916. On 3 July 1917, the two Bns formed the 4/5th Bn.

Subject: [CMN-L] 4th Welch
Hi,
My grandfather was in the 4th Welch in the First World War. A marriage cert confirmed he was a private in 1917, but by January 1918 his daughter's birth cert showed he had returned to mining. In 1917, his address is given as Pontyberem and in 1918 it is Dafen.
I do not know where he joined the army; I assume it was either Llanelli or Carmarthen. I have accessed the index to the medal rolls; but unfortunately, the result was inconclusive. One possible man saw his first active service in France on 5th December 1915. Does anyone know if this fits with the movements of the soldiers who signed up in Llanelli or Carmarthen?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Best wishes,
Anne Powell.

Hi Mona
On the 18th you wrote "A man sent me a website where I can get them fairly
inexpensively--old ones, too, which will be good for looking for older places."
That sound really interesting, especially the words 'fairly inexpensively'
-:))
Any chance that you would share this website with us?
Best wishes for Christmas - and for your visit home in the New Year
Bethan
I have started a links page on the website, which I thought we all could
contribute to.
We all have favourite, & informative websites etc, and sites on the web that
we like viewing [relevant to Genealogy of course], many of us don't know
about these websites, so maybe we could all benefit from each other, and
produce a links page which we can all browse through from time to time.
So if you have any which you think are relevant to us, please send them to
me via the list and I will add them to the links list, which you will find
on the following page [bottom left] www.UK-Genealogy-Online.com
Richard
Hi Chris
