Hi Patricia
Be good if we could help you.......as stated to find family it is worth
becoming part of a Family history Society.....
This is a start for you, looks like only the one sibling here though!
Corllanau, part of parish incl Boro of Abervon leading from Neath to
Bridgend.
HO107/2462 ed 3b folio 261 sch 134
Mountain Road
Maria Davies head wid 32 tailors widow born Neath
Theophilus Davies son 5 at home born Aberavon
Daniel Davies son 2 born Aberavon
Catherine Davies niece 8 born Aberavon
This is a start for you, it shows that Maria was already a widow by 1851
with only 2 children showing, Theophilus being only 5 years
old........wonder if the mother remarried and his 'other' 3 siblings were
half brothers and sisters??

Patty...You will soon find out that there is a large number of Welsh
inhabitants who volunteer their time to searching for our ancestors and provide
valuable information for those whose early kin emmigrated to all parts of the
world(IE. America, Australia, Holland,New Zealand,Canada,Europe etc,etc). As an
American of Welsh heritage this nework has provided me with vital data and
information on my family back to GG Grandparents(ca.1801) as I started
working back with extensive information about there lives in America was able to
achieve a good picture from Wales to the States. Occasionally we can provide
some missing links to the folks in Wales as to what happened to some of their
kin who emmigrated to another country. You actually hit a gold mine when you
queried whether there were any Welshmen on the site....Enjoy...Bill

Hello, Pauline and others from around Llanelli,
I have ancestors who once lived at Llwyn Adam farm, near Pontarddulais, which is close to Llanelli (for those not familiar with the area). A kind man from the GlamFHS has sent me photos of the remaining farm buildings. I am planning to be in Wales in March (exact dates not known yet) and will plan on visiting this farm.
I would love to meet locals from the area (besides my friend in Y Bont), May we have a roll call of Llanelli locals (or near-bys)?
My ancestor who lived there was Daniel DAVIES--he was therer sometime before he came to the US in the early-mid 1840s--and he was a copperman. I am not sure how long he lived at Llwyn Adam. I did not find him there on the 1841 census, but have possibly (thru my friend) located him on parish records. He was born approx. between 1800-1810. He had an older brother David W. DAVIES, b. about 1799-1800, also a copper man, but I don't know if David ever lived on the farm.
Would love to meet the locals over a pint!

Hello Pat,
The name George Esau/Esan Smith is on the marriage certificate. He married
in Newport S.Wales on 25 Dec 1854 He indeed was a saddler as stated on the
marriage certificate.
I believe George also had a sister Margaret as I have a copy of an old
family will which states the names of Georges children as nieces and nephews
and are benefactors. I haven't been able to find her in any census, but she
emigrated to America early in on her life. In the 1880 Ottawa Kansas census
she was stated as being born in Wales aged 36 but I think this should be
wrong as her husband is 47. If Margaret was 46 not 36 then the Cenarth
census for 1841 would be spot on.
Things are looking very promising but I wonder where John is?
Debbie
Hello Debbie
I have been intrigued with this - I noticed you implied that you had
found him on some census by your previous e-mail - so I had a look and
found the 1871 and 1881 census entries.
I am intrigued by his middle name of Esau - was this from any
documention - you haven't given us details of the marriage certificate -
or from family story?
The reason I ask - is that given that information I have a possible
candidate for you to consider - he is not shown in Llanelly in 1841 but
in Cenarth but he does seem to link to the surname Esau and he does seem
to match a George Smith , Saddler in the 1851 census
So bear with me and see what you think - there may be a Llanelly link as
you will see below .
1841 census Carmarthenshire
Cenarth.
New Inn.
Elizabeth Esau 85 Publican Y
Margaret Smith 45 Y
Elizabeth " 15 N
George " 11 Y
Margaret " 6 Y
Note: John Smith married Margaret Esau in Cenarth on Oct 28 1818 so that
also matches a father called John as per marriage certificate.
The Cenarth link is the Esau side as Margaret's mother Elizabeth was
Elizabeth Jones who married Samuel Esau in Cenarth on April 25 1777.
The Smith family obviously moved around as from the 1851 census George's
sister Elizabeth is shown as born in Wellington Shropshire hence the "N"
in 1841, so I suppose it is possible that George may have been born in
Llanelly.
In 1851 George is no longer at home:-
1851 Cenarth
Margaret Smith head W 55 Lodging house keeperCenarth
Elizabeth Jones dau M 28 Dressmaker Shrop Wellington
Margaret Smith dau 16 Cenarth
Sarah Smith dau 10 Cenarth
I think the only match for George is in Brecon St Mary
George Smith sv U 20 Saddler with a birthplace that looks like an
anglisised version of Llanelly - "Llanethly"
He is living with the family of Robert Jones , Saddler in High Street.
What do you think so far?
Cheers
Pat

Hi all,
Can anyone advise me as to how i can find out if my Lewis' or Edwards' as sometimes known(of Llandeusant) had left any wills and if so how would i access them from Australia?
Also if anyone has the following in their families from Llandeusant i would be interested....
Lewis Edward Lewis ch 4/7/1749 s/o Edward Lewis and possibly a Margaret
and his children
Edward Lewis ch 1789
David Lewis ch1792....
John Lewis ch1794
Margaret Lewis ch1795
Griffith Lewis ch1798
or David's children (mind the differing surnames and mothers!)
to Ann
Lewis Lewis ch 1816
Ann Edwards ch 1818 (appears as Lewis on 1841)
Mary Lewis ch 1821
Gwenllian Edwards ch 1823
to Eleanor
Susanna Edwards ch 1830
Thomas edwards ch 1832 (Lewis on 1841)
David edwards ch 1835 (Lewis on 1841)
Regards Amanda
Hello,
Sorry--it seems my original post went to the list twice--I hadn't seen it in my inbox, so I resent it!
Anyway, that is GOOD news that they aren't in the 1851 census, because if they are my family, they were in the US by then. As far as I know, they only had the 2 children, William and David, before coming to the US, unless some died.
Thomas was born about 1822. I think that is pretty accurate, because it matches with all the US censuses and his death cert info in the US. I don't have any other info on Mary Morris.
Does this help?
Thanks, Mona
Thanks for the info on the Bonnells - very much appreciated.
Have many BONNELLS from Pembrey in my tree - do you have access to births
and deaths in the Parish?.
Regards
Richard
Hi Dave
Remember I found out that I was following the WRONG Davies family......so
the Elizabeth who married your Pugh, is not mine.......
The Davies was the one from Nant y fen Conwil......in 1845 Jonathan Davies
farmer of Nant-y-fen father David Davies farmer, married a sister of my
Thomas Davies, namely Sarah Davies, farmer, Cilmache father Daniel Davies
farmer
Or was it someone else who said the Davies of Nant-y-fen was theirs........
You found my Dinah Davies being baptised as a teenager, but did not state
who parents were, but did say Cilmache, so I do know that she was from
there.......she was the mother of Sarah above.....
Far too many Davies in Conwil......does not help that Davies also married
Davies!!
thanks Pauline

Hi David
Good answer........
One does have to make an appointment in Carmarthen record office
now........it is closed on a Monday, and only open from Tuesday to
Friday....do not think they are open on a Saturday anymore...
As said, it depends what you are after, if original parish registers, most
of these are held in CRO........many indexes of various parishes are also
held here.....
If you let us know what you are after in particular perhaps we can help you
further...

Hi Debbie
Welcome......I cannot see George Smith baptised in Llanelly parish church,
only one there but that was in 1786
I have also looked in 1841 census, but cannot see them there either......do
you have them on any census?

Hello All,
I am looking for information on this family:
Thomas DAVIS/DAVIES and wife Mary (nee MORRIS) and
son, William, b. 1844, Trelach, Carmarthen
Can anyone tell me what Thomas DAVIS' occupation was; who his parents were; and/or if this couple also had a young son named David?
Someone sent me the above info as a single page from a Family Tree Maker file, so that is all I know about them. It was a long time ago and I don't even know who sent it to me.
I assume son William was baptised in Trelach?
Thanks in advance for any help. Looking for DAVIS/DAVIES is a real pain! :)
Mona
Hello
If you go into _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) and
search on Bonneville and Wales you will find many Bonnevilles. One interesting
one is Mary Bonneville who married James Dalton abt1731 in Pembrey. If you
trace James back you eventually get to a Sir JohnTownley born in Lancashire in
1489. Then use Google - enter Townley family Lancashire - and there will be a
wealth of websites.
One refers to Townley being descended from a Spartilingus, Dean of Whalley
in 896 (yes, 896)
I found all this because a great uncle married a Bonnville in the 1890s
Hope this info is relevant
