Hi Pauline
A big thank you. I've sent a reply to Rina. It seems that John has named
his children after his brothers and sisters which will give me imany dentical
names in different generations. This also seems to apply to my grandmother's
side as she was a Davies with Johns and Margarets. Luckily his wife comes
from Llangadock for which I have a number of Census CD's and will try and find
his wife's family there. I'm hoping to find that she wasn't a Davies though
with my family it wouldn't suirprise me. I believe that another of John's
brothers went to Llanelly so I may well find purchasing Census CD's might be
worth while.
Best wishes
Anna
Hi Pauline
As I'd trouble in getting on the list I thought I'd try a different approach
as I was unable top access the posting on the members' list. Now I've been
subscribed I've put a message on asking for the person who posted before to
repost. You must be getting fed up with me by now!
Anna
Could SKS with access to this Census look up my great uncle John Davies.
He was born in Llangadock but at the time of his mother's death in 1895 was
living at 4 New Dock Terrace, Llanelly, Carmarthen (from her death
certificate). He was single, living at home in 1884, I think aged 24 then, so about 34
in 1891. I believe he did get married so there'll probably be other family
members. Many thanks.

HI Pat and Henry
Thanks Pat, I never thought of looking in Glam for her.......at least it
rules out the John Evans theory.......I found that he was still single in
1851.....
thanks again Pat....Pauline

Hello Pat
Thank you very much. The details you have provided match very well, and I
am certain this is Louisa's family. Several of her own children born in the
1870s and 80's bear the Christian names of her brothers and sisters, e.g.
Lydia and Martha, so I feel certain this is what I have been looking for, so it
is a real break through.
I am very grateful for this information.
Henry
Hi Pauline
Thanks for the look-up to my request for help. It would appear that Louisa
was not a daughter of this John EVANS. Louisa's birthplace as shown in the
1901 census is Laugharne. Her age is shown as 60, which would make her
birth year around 1841, so she would have been around 10yrs old at the 1851
census.
Thanks for your assistance.
Henry
I wonder if someone out there has any guidance to offer on my search.
I am interested in find out about JOHN CAMPBELL who married MARY GRIFFITHS at Llanlloch church - within Carmarthen St Peters Parish on 17th June 1816.
John is said to be a Militiaman with the 55th Regiment.
There are three other marriages of Militiamen in the same church during June and July 1816 these are - David Davies and Anne Jones 16.6.1816: Jerimiah Sisk and Anne Walters 26.6.1816: Thomas Brees and Heriett Alms 1.7.1816.
I have the book: History of the Welsh Militia & Volunteer Crops 1757 - 1908 by Bryn Owen, in which it was reported that the
Carmarthen Regiment were stood down on 31.1.1816 - some 5 months before the marriages - but the grooms are still calling themselves Militiamen? In 1861 Carmarthen census Mary is a widow saying she is an Almswoman - could this be an army pension ?
I understand that the Muster Books and Pay Lists of the Militia from 1780 are at Kew - quite a journey from the north of England.
Anyone else found any alternative way of finding out about the militia ?
Thanks
Jean Skinner
Can any lister help me please, by looking up the 1851 census for Laugharne.
In the 1881 census John EVANS is shown as a farmer, living at Upper
Cresswell, Laugharne age 65. He is living next door (as it were) to Lower
Cresswell, where my wife's 2xgt grandparents were farming - James and Louisa
Richards. Louisa was an Evans before she married, so I wonder whether she married
"the boy next door". As Louisa was born abt. 1843 she could well show up in
the 1851 census if she was a daughter of John EVANS.

Hi Pauline & list,
I had no response to my email about finding John LEWIS on 1861.
Could you tell me if I can buy this on c.d. or microfiche please?
Thank you for your time.
Jackie from Devon.
Hi Pat,
Many many thanks for the information. It certainly gives me plenty to think
about. Stephen married Sarah LEWIS in August 1855 in the parish church in
Laugharne and at sometime that family upped roots to Methyr Tydfil around
1860 as that is where my great grandfather William Benjamin and his two
brothers Thomas and John Lewis were born. I just wondered if Stephen's
parents went with the rest of them? Any Idea where I could perhaps get a
look up on the 1861and 1871 census to see if either or both families can be
located?
Kindest regards,
Jill.

Hi All,
I wonder is there some kind person who has acess to the 1841 census for Pendine? I am trying to find information on the following
William BENJAMIN farmer and his son Stephen BENJAMIN who would have been about 10/11 years old at that time. Sorry I have so little information on these two. Any help at all would be much appreciated.

Hello Pat
Thanks for the information re Louisa EVANS. It sounds as though this family
might be the one, although I have Louisa down as born in 1843. Your Louisa
was from a farming family, and my Louisa married James RICHARDS who was also
a farmer - so I will pursue this information further.
Many thanks.

Hi List,
Returning to this list once again after some time away.
I have marriage cert of John LEWIS & Sarah Jones who were married at St Stephens , Llanstephan.in 1853.
I have been unable to find them on any census since that date.
In particular I would love to find John's sister Catherine LEWIS , who stayed with him around 1857, 4 years after his marriage to Sarah.
If anyone has access to the census of 1861, & can find these people for me ,I would be so grateful.
Thanking you for your time.
Jackie from Devon.
