Hello Ron
My brother was born in Jan 1952 in West Wales General Hospital which was in
Priory Street at that time.
I asked my parents if they remembered when Glangwily took over as West Wales
General Hospital and they believed that it was around the summer of 1958/59.
Hope this is of some help

Help my daughter wants to nurse her new baby using the traditional welsh fashion blanket which wrapps around mother and baby.
I cannot remember or workout now how to fold and wrap round both.
If any one can give me idiot proof instructions I would be very gratful.
Cheers
Sue in LLantrisant, Glamorgan.

Hi
I have been looking through the 1851 Census and came across a family of
Thomas's in Llanybydder, Carms. Joshua Thomas is head of the family aged 42,
Smith and born in Llanybydder. I don't know why, but the name Joshua seems
to
ring a bell. Is there anyone looking for a Joshua Thomas in the
Carmarthenshire
County?

Hope there is someone looking for this family otherwise Joshua is going to
bother me for a while.

The way I did it, .... years ago, use a very large blanket, put around you
over one shoulder and underarm (if you are right-handed under that arm). You
have baby in you left arm, you tuck the blanket around baby into you body, then
you wrap the right side of the blanket around to the left and tuck it under
the baby. I hope other mothers tell you the same as I did, but the babies
loved cuddling into their Mummy.

The new Carmarthenshire Infirmary was built in 1857 the foundation stone
being laid on 14th May 1857 on the site formerly occupied by the old grammer
school. On the 1st July 1858 the infirmary was opened. It was a handsome
and commodious building erected to contain between 30 and 40 in patients and
was well deserving the support and interest of a humane and benevolent
public. The Infirmary continued on a voluntary basis until 1948 when the
National Health Service was born and the state took over the control of all
such hospital services.
West Wales General Hospital Glangwilli.
Today the infirmary is part of the West Wales General Hospital, a
prestigious and highly sophisticated complex built on an extensive site at
Glangwili. At the end of the 1939-45 war Glangwili Hospital was little more
than a collection of Nissan huts which had ben constructed to provide
hospital accommodation for the American Army, in anticipation of casualties
following the invasion of Europe. In the event, the large number of
casualties never materialised and the huts were quickly surrounded with
barbed wire and used as a prisoner of war camp until hostilities ceased In
the years since the huts have been gradually replaced with the present
buildings and the hospital has been transformed into an ultra modern general
hospital with many specialist departments...
****
It does not state when the Infirmary in Priory Street closed, or Glangwili
took over.....

Hi Pauline:
I sent out his message to you earlier but did not get a response. As that is

Hi Pauline,
we were in contact in 2004 about a Jonathan Owen from Trelech you replyed
with the only records you had on file which are on the bottom of the page,
you asked me for further information to try and find out who might be his
parents, but at the time there were some problems with the lists so I may
have missed your reply, is it possible for you to take another look for me
Pauline it would be greatly appreciated there are two strong possibilities
that you have found, your details are at the bottom of the page.
Regards Marlena
I did find on 1851 census for Glamorgan a christening date of 1819
The birth and christening dates are from I.G.I family search records / I
gathered all Jonathan Owen/s around 1817 / 1818
Marriages I got from 1817 /1837 Carmarthenshire Marriages.
I then pick up a Jonathan Owen on a 1851
Glamorgan census living with his wife and children.
2462 1851 of Pontrhydyfen North.REF H.O. 107/2462.E.D.5
Piece 2462 Folio 429 Schedule 030
I then find him on his Daughters Marrige Certificate in 1875
!881 Census I find him with his wife & children

The baptisms I gave to you are the only ones that took place in Trelech ar
Bettws parish church........where is your information from?
If you let me know perhaps we could find more information...
regards Pauline
I have on file 1817 15th June - Jonathan Owen son John and Esther
Trelech -A'R Bettws
I have on file a marriage on the 16 November 1815 John Owen and a Esther
David Trelech
but not 1824 14th March - Jonathan Owen son William Owen and Margaret
James
I also have 1818 13th March - John Owen son John Owen and Jane ?

Still looking for Evan and Mary Davies, with a son Howell born Feb1861 in
Treleach in the registration district of Conwil.Would appreciate if possible
where the family was in either the 1861 or 1871 census. Occupation of Evan
was general labourer on Howell's birth certificate.Thankyou . Alun.
The above families attended my grandmother Dinah DAVIES's funeral in 1917 in
Ton Pentre as brothers and sisters-in-law. I believe them to be my
grandfather's brothers and their wives who moved to Llanelly from Llangadock where
they were born. I believe one or both of them lived in Inkerman Street when
they first moved there. I'm hoping that someone will remember this family and
we can link our information.
Anna Thonas
Marie, good luck, keep us posted as I'm always interested......I know that
Terry is busy but hopefully he will get back to you soon........

Pauline:
Correction. Thomas Kirkhouse married the Maid of Sker in 1766 not 1776. The
marriage of Thomas Kirkhouse to Catherine Thomas was 1776. Sorry for the
error
Gordon, USA
Hi Pauline:
A couple of years back you tried to help me get information on my GGGGF
William Bedlington Kirkhouse born Llanon 1828. If you may recall , we tried
to find a birth registration or parents or anything. Unfortunately nothing
worked out.
Since that time I have a few more bits of info and some thoughts.
First , I have his family downward. he married Ann Williams in Ystradgynlais
Dec 31, 1851. They had four children: Ann, Hannah ( my GGM), William and
Margaret. I found that he died 1880 in Pontycymmer. None of that helps but
it is nice to know.
Here is my hunch ( I realize that a hunch and a few pence only gets a cup of
tea).
The "......Bedlington Kirkhouse " names appear to originate with George
Kirkhouse who married Elizabeth Bedlington. They moved to the Merthyr tydfil
and Llansamlet areas and the family is quite large. I have been trying to
tie in to that line without success. here is where it gets interesting.
George had a relative Thomas Kirkhouse. It is not clear what the
relationship was . Possibly a cousin or brother. Even possible he was the
eldest son of George.
Anyhow, this Thomas Kirkhouse married Elizabeth Williams , the Maid of Sker,
in 1776. They had four children in Llansawel, Carm. George Bedlington,
Thomas who died an infant in 1769, William in 1771 and Thomas in 1773. As
far as I can tell that was it.
Next in the chain is that a Thomas Kirkhouse , WIDOWER, married a Catherine
Thomas in Llanon, Carm, 19th Nov 1776. My hunch is that this may be my
line. But, no proof. If you recall, the father of my WBK 1828 was ,
according to the Brecon marriage entry, a "Bottleton" Kirkhouse, Farmer. And
there was also a registration for a John Kirkhouse in Llanon 10 Aug 1818.
His father supposedly was "Bodleton" Kirkhouse and his mother Martha
Richard.
If it is the same Thomas Kirkhouse who married Catherine Thomas, then his
son George Bedlington would have been eight years old , son William 5 years
,old son Thomas 3 years old and most certainly all would have been in
Llanon. Is this the Belleton or/and Bodleton who married Martha Richard
( or perhaps did not marry her) and had a son John in 1818 and possibly my
WBK in 1828? OR, did one of his sons have son WBK 1828? Or, did William
Kirkhouse and Thomas get involved here ?Pauline , if you have read this far,
God bless you. Can you help with any of this?
Best wishes,
Gordon , USA

Hi Members
Have found the following family in the 1851 Census record 2D&3B Parish
Llanelly Members CD:
55 Penygarisaf
Rachel Morgans Head aged 62 General Servant Llangennech
David Morgans Son aged 23 Collier - Llanelly page 18
William Morgans Son aged 21 Collier - Llanelly "
Issac Morgans Son aged 19 Collier - Llanelly "
Henry Morgans Son aged 17 Collier - Llanelly "
William Morgans could be my GGGrandfather as age range is about right
Have also found another Morgans family next door in No: 54 Penygarisaf
John Morgans Head age 23 Collier Llanelly Page 17
Mary Morgans Wife age 38 "
John Morgans Son age 3 "
Margaret Morgans Daug aged 1 "
I don't think second family is connected to Morgans I am looking for:
Could anyone look at the 1841 and 1861 Census as I think this may be the
William Morgans I have been looking for.
Regards
Sue 4204
