Max, I cannot see them in 1851 census that I have indexed........the census
that I have not indexed yet is Abergwilli in that area......so perhaps they
could be there...

Greetings all on this list.
I hope someone can help or turn me in the right
direction: I have the following information and would like to trace this
family back now in Wales. Perhaps someone else is also tracing the same
line.
Thomas Price b c 1645 in Wales and he married Maria Baker in the Channel
Islands in 1670. Thomas Price was originally thought to be from the area
Trelech-a'r-Bettw, in CARMARTHENSHIRE
Wales. The only clue to the family from which Thomas Price, Founder of the
Guernsey Channel Islands branch sprang, is to be gathered from an antique
silver seal which he brought with him when he arrived in Guernsey.
Below is information off the seal used by Price in the Channel Islands and
the later generations. (as mentioned above).
Arms. - Argent, a lion rampant, reguard sable.
Crest. - A falcon sable, close.
Motto. - "Spero" - "I hope"
This information from a published book 'Our Kin Genealogicala Sketches,
Pedigrees and Arms of Sundry Families 1890' (In the Channel Islands) The
seal was engraved with the above Arms, crest and motto, the device of the
ancient Welsh family Price of Ap Rhys, Carmarthenshire, Wales, whose
pedigree, I believe, extends back six or seven centuries. (I don't have a
clue what this means!!)
Thomas Price originally came to the Channel Islands travelling with a
tutor/companion, he was of independent means, (he was possibly a 'remittance
man') who after his marriage, settled permanently in Guernsey. The family
had an interest in shipping, they survived the Napoleonic invasion and
prospered in the Channel Islands.
Can some kind person please help me trace this family of Price/Pryce (I have
only seen the spelling as Price). I have not seen the original seal but
Matthew Guérin PRICE b c1787 (a Private Banker and married to Caroline,
Countess Raphael. ) who was the third great grandson of Thomas PRICE b c1645
gave his son Captain Matthew Price b 1818 a similar seal when he came to
Australia in 1852. This is still in the family here.
Kind regards Ronnie Bates

Hi I am new to the list and have been researching Viponds in Wales on and off for 30 Years.
I believe that these Viponds probably emigrated from Garigill or Alston in Cumbria.
Any info on any Viponds would be appreciated

Other than Pile & Kenfig all the above places are within about 15 miles of
each other.
The VIPONDs disaper about 1850 from Mid Wales many of them emigrating to
America and Australia. One Henry VIPOND solicitor is in South Wales about
1900 and John VIPOND owned a coal mine about the same time.
I state that they were lead miners because their is documentary evidence to
support this.
I believe that both the fact that they were miners and the given names
before 1800 suggests that they came from Garigill.

Hi Pauline.
Can someone confirm by lookup for me please the following information.. Info is from LDS plus
remembered family lore, but I would welcome local confirmation..
1861 Census.
David Davies, head of household, aged 40 years, born Llanllawddog, Carms, Farmer of 140 acres.(born
1821)
Hannah Davies (nee Bowen); farmers wife, aged 36, born Abergwili, Carms, (born 1825)
Eunice Thomas, niece, aged 13 years, born Merthyr Tydfil, scholar
John Davies, servant, aged 20 years, born Llanegwad, Carms, farmers servant indoor
At this time the household was Ty Mawr Farm, Llanllawddog.
Possibly married on 7 December 1854 at Trelech ar Bettws to Hannah Bowen.
I have pursued the marriage at the Church in Trelech ar Bettws through the usual channels to no
avail. As non-conformists they would probably be Chapel wed I would think, but where??
Eunice Thomas is my grandmother and I have traced her back to 1795. My mother told me
that she, g-mother, was brought up by relatives in Carmarthen. These could be the relatives and I
would enjoy researching further back should this Census information be correct.
Thanks for any help forthcoming. Regards Huw.
Just a note if any of you wish to visit the Dyfed FHS Open Day tomorrow, it is taking place as follows:

Hi Pauline
I need another favour if you have the 1861 census handy for Carmarthen Town.
I am looking for David Morgan would be about 29 and his wife Mary about 30 they are living in Chequers Ally, David is a Tailor/Draper and they were both born in Carmarthen St Peters, they were still at this address in 1891,
Thankyou Pauline
Cheers

PS by the way what does the name "Towyn " mean as I have a friend who is looking for him and I thought I had found him but the "T" stood for Tudor, he is "Towyn" in the 1901 census on Line aged 31 born in Llanelly carmarthen (perhaps a nickname )

Hello List: I am still searching in vain it does sometimes seem for my
elusive John Lewis. I have learned up to this point that his father is
William Lewis and that the father brought his son on 15 February 1772 to
Llandeilo Abbercywyn, Carmarthenshire, South Wales, UK for baptism. His
stone in the churchyard of the Anglican parish at Rye, Westchester
county, New York says that he was born 13 February 1771 and he died in
the USA on 5 October 1846. Several generations of Lewis' are interred
at the Greenwood-Union Cemetery which is the official name of the
Anglican Churchyard there in Rye. At one time I was thinking that the
date of the birth and the date of the baptism were on the same day.
Further study shows that there are two different dates for the birth
and the baptism. I would appreciate any help that I can obtain from you
good folks. thank you

great grandfather on her maternal line)

Hi Marilyn
The request came from a member of the society who actually knows the person
who the request came from. I have not sent anyone to a web site, only
direct to the child herself.....and she has emailed me to say thank you, and
it really is a school project that has been set for them.
I had not seen the web site that Les gave, I did check with the people
concerned before I requested the information......
Thanks for your daffodil email....wonderful

So sorry, Pauline! I sincerely hope I didn't interject a comment about that
and didn't read more carefully beforehand! Didn't intend to! My computer
has been unplugged since last Sunday because I was painting the room it's
in...just hooked everything back up today. Had 128 e-mails, so may have
been reading through too quickly! Had to delete all the SPAM first! The
problem I mentioned I've had to make certain family members aware of,
because some of them have been too quick to forward things without checking
out authenticity first, so just made me think of it. Hope I didn't create a
problem for the List! Thanks. And you're welcome about the
"Daffodils"...the family DOES send some good things along! :-)

John GRIFFITHS of the Swan Inn, St Clears, died in 1864. His Will names his
Trustee and Executor as the Rev David Williams, Minister of the Salem
Chapel. In the Bishops' Transcripts for Llanwinio I have found John
Griffiths' marriage to Margaret WILLIAMS in 1803, but none of the childrens'
baptisms, so I am assuming they were non-conformists. Llanwinio has two
other Church records available through the LDS on microfilm - Cwm Y Velin
Chapel (Baptist) and Cwmbach Calvinistic Methodist Church. Was the Salem
Church at St Clears Baptist or Methodist or some other denomination? I am
wondering which film to order next.
