I recently received information from the Carmarthen Archives on a marriage at
St. Peter's Carmarthen in 1809. The groom was described as being of the 96th
Regiment. Does anyone on the list know what that means? It must be a
military organization, but can anyone tell me about it?
Thanks very much,
Darla

Hi Pauline
Does the Swansea cd cover the Neath area, daft question I know, but I see
the next one you are doing is in Roath and Cardiff, and I just wondered if
the bit in between would be on the Swansea cd.
Cheers

Just in case anyone had a soldier in the 77th foot in 1851 they are in Carmarthen St Peters for the census.....at last I have started to index this one, which has about 10,000 entries, which was daunting to say the least.
There are 7 private's in hospital in Johnstown at this time four of them from Ireland.....

Hi Pauline
I've just re-read your email and realise that you show David Davies as
marrying a Jane Davies! If thjis is the case then this adds confusion to
confusion as I have at least one more case of a Davies marrying a Davies, this being
John Davies' son Morgan Elias marrying a Dinah Davies who's family can be
traced back to Llanegwad.
Do you hold any records for areas adjoining Carmarthenshire? Some family
members I would like to trace could have married in areas that might well have
been part of Carmarthenshire at some time or other. I am thinking in
particular of a David Davies, who was living in Llanguicke but who married a Mary
Ann from Brecon. David was born in Llanegwad, in Llanfynydd in 1851 but in
Llanguicke in 1871. Would I be correct in assuming that he would most likely
have married in his wife's parish?
Anna
Anna
I have this entry but it is not a full index, so abode and occupation is not
given..
1833 9th June Pencarreg parish church
John Davies son David and Jane
you could check with the archives to find out abode and occupation.......
I looked for a marriage between a David Davies and Jane in Pencarreg, there
was only the one...
1820 24th July Pencarreg parish church
David Davies and Jane Davies both of Pencarreg...
if these are the ones you could purchae the baptism copy and the marriage
copy from the archives....if you want to know how to do this send an email
to

Again you are an angel. I should have thought of asking you before! I have
recently emailed archives trying to find the family on the 1841 census. If
they come back to me and it confirms your findings then I'll contact them
regarding purchasing copies of John's birth and his father's marriage.
Thank you once again.
Anna
Hi Pauline
Could you check to see if you can find the birth details of John Davies,
born 1833/4 in Pancarrreg? His father was David Davies, a labourer. I tried to
find the family on the 1851 Census CD but to no avail as John was probably
recorded separately. I also checked the 1851 Census for Llangadock in case
the family were living there (he married there in 1858) but again nothing.
Many thanks.
Anna Thomas
Hi Pauline,
No, I haven't looked for his birth before. Any help greatly appreciated.
Best wishes,
Anne

HI Darla
I am living away from Carmarthen at the moment, so will not be able to check

You could send an email to them to ask if they would mind looking for the
witnesses for you.....
archives(a)carmarthenshire.gov.uk
hope this helps......Pauline

Hi Pauline,
Hope you are well. After a long lay off I'm back on the trail.
Thank you so much for the members CD; I've had a lot of fun with the "Antiquities of Laugharne" in particular. I seem to have uncovered a lot of connections with that area.
Currently I have 2 queries I'm seeking advice with:
1. First name: David
Surname: VAUGHAN
Born: Llanon circa 1813 (according to 1851 census).
I'm wondering if there could be a connection with the Daniel Vaughan mentioned in recent messages, as some of the family's Christian names are the same.
2.First name: Maurice
Surname: BROWN(E)
Born: possibly in Laugharne circa 1750.
Any help as usual will be greatly appreciated.
Best wishe,
Anne Powell (2015).
Pauline, while it's so quiet, I'm going to take the liberty of asking you a
question I asked while you were suffering the "subbing-being unsubbed"
problems. I never received an answer, although in the back of my mind I'm wondering
if you haven't answered this for me before and I just can't find a note about
it.
Can you check the St. Peter's marriage of Jane BOWEN and David MORGAN on
December 12, 1809 and see if any witnesses are mentioned?
This time I'll make a note in my FTM program -- and NEVER ask again!
Thanks for your patience,
Darla

I'm trying to find my Pencarreg DAVIES family from Pencarreg. Could SKS do
a look up for my family which has as head David DAVIES and at least one son
John DAVIES born approx 1833/34? I have the 1851 Pencarreg Census and found
a John DAVIES at Entry no 48 but with the mother a widow. I have the
marriage certificate for John in 1858 but this doesn't show David as having died!
It's also possible that John was living away from home at the time and so a
look up in 1841 would be more likely to bring him up with his family as he
would be about 7. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
Anna
Just to let you know that
