Hello, Listers. I am new to this list and have just discovered that some of my 4xgreat grandparents were from Caio (Thomas Thomas about 1790) and a place called Llanycrwys or Llwyncrwys - sorry I don't know which is correct - his wife Catherine was from there, according to the 1851 census. They must have moved to Glamorgan in the earlyish days of coal mining, for they were living in the Llantrisant parish by 1841, in Cymmer/Porth. Their children were William, Margaret, John, Moses (my 3xg. grandfather) born c 1834, David and Ann. I think there was also an Esther. I think all the children except Ann were born in Caio, somewhere of which I had never heard until yesterday! I have found some info on the web, and a very pretty, interesting little place it seems to be! Does anyone have any connection, please?
Dianne (nee Thomas)
Pauline,
I apologise for the slip-up which ocurred in my first email - yes, the
reference is to a birthplace in Carmarthenshire (probably in Carmarthen
itself), but the census *is* Glamorgan.
I'll try and see if somebody can consult a copy of the original, but in
case the query is in the original, I'd still like to ask if this name
rings a bell --- a street or area in Carmarthen?
Sorry to mislead you, and many thanks for your efforts.
Sara

How very kind! Here are all the numbers I can find:
2460 1851 107/2460 E.D. 2J
piece 2460 Folio 337 Sched 195
Treaman (no street number in my transcription - a hamlet?)
many thanks,
Sara

My John Thomas is described as having been born in Carmarthen in the
Glamorgan 1861 & 1871 censuses. On the 1851 census for Carmarthenshire
CD his place of birth is given as 'CMN Goldsmith?' (with a question mark).
I assume that the original record wasn't readable. Has anybody any ideas
what 'Goldsmith' might refer to? (He was a miner - anyway this isn't in
the'occupation' column.)
Many thanks,
Sara

Hi Pauline:
I am still recovering from my trip to Wales. What a wonderful magical
country. We enjoyed ourselves so much. Our guide took us to so many
castles, cathredals, and beautiful little churches and towns. We were so
impressed by Pentre Ifan and the St Non's well and church, We were able to
see so much because he did the driving and knew where to go. I took over
400 pictures so you can see how impressed I was. I took so many because I
was trying to capture everything to show my 85 year old father who could not
go because of his health. He has looked so intently at these pictures,
studying the background he found things that I was unaware of when I took
the pictures.
We went to the Carmarthenshire Archives and Museum. Also the Llanelli
Library. We met our distant cousins and they joined us as we went to see
familiy homes, farms and cemeteries. I met Ivor Griffiths and purchased
some of his books. I went to the Dragon book store and another one in
Carmarthenshire. Everyone was so helpful. Thank you so much for your
suggestions and help.
We had the opportunity to attend a "Welsh Night" at our timeshare. It
included Welsh food, Cockles and Laver bread was one of the items. It was
pretty good. It brought back all the comments on the list a few weeks ago.
There were Dancers and singers in costume with instructions and
explanations on the costumes and the dances. My daughters and some of my
cousins danced. I just took pictures. A gentleman explained the customs.
He was very entertaining. We took our newly found cousins and just had a
wonderful time. They had some pictures of our mutual grandparents which was
exciting.
We decided this was a perfect time of year to go because we had the castles
to ourselves for the most part. No lines. We had a misty rain some days
which just increased the mystic quality of the medieval castles Please
excuse me for such a long message. I just wanted to let you know that the
trip was all I had hoped. I am ready to go back. If anyone else is
planning a trip , I would be happy to share any information I have.
Best wishes,
Cherlyn

Hi Pauline
Thanks for advice. Thought same address covers. Have had an auto-response which seems not to give an
address to use for mailing only stating that I should be ok to use after 24 hours; that time is long
past. Can you clarify please. Huw
P.S.
The auto sender address is soc-carmarthenshire-fhs-bounces(a)british-genealogy.com which
long and suspicious because of 'bounce' to me. H.L.
Hi Jenni,
I have been researching my Davies line in Abergwili but I'm not sure if it
ties in with yours. I have gone back to my 5 x great grandfather William Davies
of Tycoch, Abergwili. He was baptised 8 Feb 1742 at Abergwili and was buried
there 28 Apr 1815 (his father was a John Davies but I haven't established
which particular John Davies he was yet). William had several children
including a John (but born 1786), and also a David, Elizabeth and a Sarah so there
may be a possibility they are family names. Do you know your John and
Catherine's parents at all?
I'm not doing much in the way of genealogy at the moment but if you let me
know what you have I'll check it against the information I've got to see if
it's of any help to you.
Best wishes
Yvonne Reid
Hi Huw
For a marriage in Brecon you would have to contact the Registry office for
that county.....the address will be on the web pages probably......
I have this marriage, if it is the one there will not be a baptism for
Hannah as the records for Pantteg & Penuel chapel finish in 1837, the year
that we have Thomas and he was on the last page......you will not be able to
have a birth certificate for him as he was born pre registration, but you
could ask in Carmarthen registry office if there are children to a Miriam
Thomas Abergwilli registered......at least the name Miriam is easier to
find....
This was the only one of a John Thomas and Miriam
Llanegwad parish church
1836 11th November - John Thomas and Miriam Daniels
I have not indexed Abergwilli as yet, but I will see if I can find them for
you.....
Pauline

Hi Pauline.
My apologies for not including this additional piece of information which may affect your search.
Baptised 04 August 1837 at Peniel Chapel Abergwili. (Nonconformist family).
Birth and baptism dates are probably near enough for records of that time but I am unable to relate
Abergwili with Pantteg. Where is Peniel Chapel relative to Pantteg.
My geography late and modern of that area is near to nil.
If you can clarify I would be delighted to add the information to my Tree.
What do you think.
Regards as always Huw
Hello Listers
Has anyone information on a wedding at the Memorial Chapel, Llandovery on 15 May 1945 between Elwyn
