Hi Pauline
I've managed to lose the Manche's and my uncle's addresses. I'll let you
know when I find them.
It'll be Llanfynydd in 1861 I need as This would enable me to trace the
family on from there, if I'm lucky! The only thing I know is that David married a
Mary Ann fromYstrad, Brecon and they lived in Llanguick. There were two
daughters, Margaret and Dinah my grandmother. Dinah married Morgan Elias Davies,
whose father was born in Pencarreg but lived in Llangadock. Hence my
Llangadock connection.
Regards Anna
Hi Pauline
I'm not even sure that this family in St Peters are mine. The problem was
that all the other families with a Mary had fathers who were born in St Peters.
I suppose there's also the possibility that Mary was born in St Peters
because that's where her mother came from: in which case she could have been
elsewhere in 1881! The alternative is that one of the daughters married into yet
another Davies family: the mind boggles!
Regards Anna
Hi Pauline
Thank you. In 1871 Thomas was 65, an ag lab and Ann was 64. Both born in
Llanegwad. The only family shown in 1871 was their granddaugther Mary Davies,
aged 1. I have some details for 1841 and 1851 but I'm not sure if all the
information is there.
In 1851 the children at home are: Anne, 13 Mary, 9, William, 6 and David 3.
Anne was born in LLanegwad, the others in Llanfynydd. There is at least one
other child, but I haven't the 1841 Census to hand. I understand that David
moved to Llanguick where he was found in 1871. Unfortunately the lack of the
1861 Census occurs at exactly the wrong time to help me link families together.
By the way thanks for the stamps that came with the CD's! Have have you come
across Richard and Phyl Manche? They are Maltese friends of my Uncle and
live in the next block of flats to him.
Am I a nuisance or what!
Regards Anna
I found a Mary Davies, age 1 on the 1871 Llanfynydd Census. She was with her
grandparents Thomas and Ann Davies. Thomas and Ann were born in Llanegwad
but Mary was born in St Peters which means that one of their children married
and moved there. It's more likely that this was a son but Davies to Davies
marriages are not uncommon in my Davies family. I've tried to trace Mary on the
1881 Census but the closest I can get on the 1881 Censujs (via Family Search)
is
Anne DAVIES, Head, W., 39, born Llangunnor, Carmarthen, Publican
Mary DAVIES, Daur, 12,born St Peters, Carmarthen
Eliza DAVIES, Daur 10 " " "
Sarah DAVIES, Daur, 9 " " "
James DAVIES, Son, 7 " " "
Margaret DAVIES, Daur 5 " " "
Margaret JONES, Sister, 20, Born Llangunnor, Carmarthen, Sempstress
They were living at 11 Water Street
Census: Carmarthen St Peter
PRO Ref RO11, Folio 5399/4, page no 3
Could SKS with the 1871 St Peter Census see if they could find Anne with her
husband. I'm hoping to find that her husband came from Llanegwad/Llanfynydd.
TIA
Anna Thomas
Hello Pauline
I joined the Carmarthenshire F.H.S. for this year and used the discs a lot
at the beginning of the year. It's been a while since I used them, I've
forgotten which one I should use and what are the passwords? Sorry to be a pain,

Hi everybody.
My grandfather Thomas Jenkins was born at Rwyth Cottage Pontiets. I wonder
if anyone knows if it still exists, and if so where it is - I assume
somewhere near the Rwyth pub

I have found a Mary Davies, age 1 on the Llanfynydd 1871 Census. She was
with her grandparents Thomas and Ann Davies. Mary was born in St Peters. If SKS
has access to the St Peter's births 1870/1 I would be grateful for a look-up.
Thank you.

Last message about the project was sent out on Sept. 8, 2004.
Seems that things are never straightforward - I'll explain - parents of
Hanah Davies, aged 4, at Bwlchydomen Hwnt in the 1851 census are
David Davies, aged 28, Labourer and
Sarah, wife, aged 27 - are also
Mary aged 3 and David aged 1 year - all of family born in Penboyr parish.
At Pantybarcud were
Ebenezer Davies, aged 34, Farmer of 18 acres, born Penboyr -
Mary Davies, aged 42, wife, born Llandyfriog parish (adjacent parish to the
North, on other side of River Teifi, in Cardiganshire)
Benjamin aged 8, Annah aged 5, David aged 3 - all children born in Penboyr
parish.
At Penyralltfach were
David Davies, aged 37 years, paper formerly farm servant, born Conwil parish
(adjacent parish to the South)
Rachel, wife, aged 38 years
Sarah aged 10 years
Annah aged 5 years
Thomas aged 2 years
Jane aged 6 months
Rachel & children were all born in Penboyr parish
If David's wife was Rachel then the last one is most likely but Hannah's age
is wrong. In this census there were only two married Rachel Davies' - the
other has no children anf husband's name is Daniel.
So assuming that they were still in Penboyr parish at the time of the 1851
census - the Penyralltfach appears most likely.
In the 1841 census - there are no Davies' at Berllan Dowill - but there are
again two possibilities for Rachel Davies of around the right age - one at
Penlon, aged 22 years where there's also a John Davies aged 22, with a Anne
Davies aged 2 months - so father and daughter ? - but husband's name is
wrong ! and at Groesffordd where are listed:-
Methusalem Davies aged 47, Agricultural labourer,
Margaret Davies aged 53, Mary aged 26 years, Rachel Davies aged 23 years,
and Hanah Davies aged 20 years. This suggests that this Rachel wasn't
married - so wouldn't be her.
Hope you follow.
Looking for a Rachel Harries in 1841 census -
is only the one at Llwincelyn aged 23 years where there's also
Anne Harries aged 59 years, widow
Hanah Harries aged 3.
Are these mother and sister ?
The year of birth that you may have for Rachel from a tombstone may help
confirm ?
For David Davies in 1841 - again have two possibilities:-
one at Cwmpengraig aged 25, carpenter, also there Anne Davies aged 20 years
and Elizabeth Davies aged 3 - so wife & daughter - if so wrong wife's name
etc..
other at Berllan aged 25 years Agricultural labourer - only one at this
house.
So seems they hadn't married at time of 1841 Census (6th June 1841) -
assuming they were both still in Penboyr parish.
If this is the case then their marriage certificate and birth certificates
of the children should be available from the Register office etc..
Hope this helps.
A.J.

We've obtained a certified copy of an entry of birth from the General
Register
Office that is in agreement with her date of birth on her tombstone -
04 June 1846. Also in agreement is an entry in the Family Bible of
Gwen (MORRIS, JONES) ECKMAN, daughter of Anna / Hanna DAVIES
And Lazarus MORRIS.
The Registration District is Newcastle Emlyn, the Sub-district
is Kenarth, in the County of Carmarthen and Pembroke, as follows:
No.: 432
When and where born: 4th June 1846 at Berllandywill, Penboyr
Name if any: Anna
Sex: Girl
Name and Surname of father: David DAVIES
Name, surname, maiden name of mother: Rachel DAVIES, formerly HARRIS
Occupation of father: Labourer
Signature, description, and residence of informant: The mark of David
Davies, Father, Berllandywill, Penboyr
When registered: 26th June 1846
Signature of registrar: Joseph Jones, Registrar
Name entered after registration: (this category is lined through)
In most of her documentation in Wales, she uses "Hannah", while
In most of her documentation in Pennsylvania, and later in Greenwood
(Sebastian)
Arkansas, she uses the name "Anna".
We believe that a marriage between Hannah DAVIES and Lazarus MORRIES
In 1866 is their marriage.
After showing in the 1871 census, Lazarus disappears off our radar map
A Family Bible shows his death in Wattstown, Glamorgan on 09 August 1905.
Family lore says he did come to the United States for a short while, but we
Haven't found any documentation of this.
Best Regards,
Bob

In the 1851 Census for Penboyr there appear to be three possiblities for
your Anna or Hannah Davies :-
Hanah Davies, aged 4 at Bwlchydomen Hwnt
Annah Davies, aged 5 at Pantybarcud
Annah Davies, aged 5 at Penyralltfach
The Census date was 30th-31st March 1851 - suggesting that the first of
these is most likely.
Do you have any further information on the family (parents/siblings) which
may help confirm which of these is correct ?

Hi
I am having difficulty finding the parents of my 3X G. Grandad Samuel Evans.
Samuel was born abt., 1777 in a place called Killwin, and I have no idea where that is. I contacted SOG and they did not know either.
If anyone else is also reseaching this man who moved to Gloucester and married Elizabeth Watts in 1805 in Stonehouse Glcs., would you please contact me.
Samuel is proving a brickwall for me and it seems to be unsurmountable.
Regards to you all
June.
Hello,
I have the Caio 1851 census, who are you looking for?
Best Wishes

Hi Pat,
Many thanks for the info and advice, much appreciated.
Your advice that I should get the marriage certificate of Thomas John and
Jane makes sense.
I do not know Jane's maiden name, is the Christian name enough?
Also do you know where I apply for the license?
All help much appreciated.
Thank you
Julia
