Dear Pauline and listers,
This morning, I received the death certificate of my great great grandfather, Theophilus Thomas, who died in 1893. The place of death was recorded as Brynbach in the parish of Llanpumpsaint. I would very much appreciate a look up of the 1891 census for Brynbach, Llanpumpsaint to clarify if he was living there with Sarah his wife. I have lost all trace of Theophilus and Sarah after they left Dolwen in the parish of Cilrhedyn in 1881. Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Sian Gillespie

Hi Pauline: I have not seen my messages posted so I don't know if you or
the list are receiving my e-mails. So I'll try again. I just renewed my
membership for 2005. Could you send me the Carmarthenshire burials.
Thanks. Cherlyn

Sue, there must be lots of Elizabeth Morgan/s out there, I think you have
the parents names, why not try for a birth not indicating that she was born
in Cross Hands.....perhaps she was born Llanelly, or Llanon etc.....
My own mother would not believe me when I found her own grandmother and
greatgrandmother in Burry Port stating that they were both born in Burry
Port, as she said 'No, they were from Rhondda and Swansea'......luckily they
had easier names being Sarah and Mable Harwood....., they were the only ones
there.....so sometimes handed down information can be incorrect, although
Mable's father was from Swansea.....no idea who was from Rhondda.!! Sarah's
parents were from Conwil Elved....they were in 1891 census and Mable was
only 1 year old.
Try again, and don't be put off.......Pauline

Hello Victoria and Listers,
Thanks for your mail.
This is a long story without much detail. I'm trying to find the Welsh
family of a David Morgan who arrived in America aged 15 years, c1770, from
Wales. A USA relative of this Morgan is working on the family line in the
USA, so I'm not going over the same ground. We don't know where in Wales he
came from, or why, or when exactly he arrived in America. I'm hoping the USA
research will show where in Wales he came from, for the reason given below.
I have been checking records of David Morgans who were transported from
Wales to America around this time, and there are only two of them. I got the
info from Welsh records and I'm trying to get more, e.g., age etc. No luck
so far.
Normal American/Welsh emigration records for this period don't appear to
exist. So I'm left with criminal records, as one source, and I might get
lucky.
I'm asking the question about these two Morgans through sites in Wales
and the USA. Unfortunately, what I've written on those sites is all I know.
My reason for doing this is also, maybe, unusual. A male descendant of
the David Morgan first mentioned, the one currently being researched in the
USA, has an exact 25/25 marker DNA match with my Y chromosome DNA. This
means we are related and it's only a question of how many generations ago we
had a common ancestor.
My family roots are Worcestershire, England. My great grandfather was
born in 1815, near Birmingham, and was illegitimate. He came to Australia in
1836.
From DNA testing it would now appear I'm connected to a Morgan line out
of Wales into Worcestershire, the same male line, but probably a different
branch, as the David Morgan who arrived in America c.1770, aged 15 years.
So, my current task is to bring this all together somehow. There is
hopefully, still today, a Morgan family in Wales which is connected to this
David Morgan. If I could find the family in Wales, I might be able to then
trace the branch that ended up in Worcestershire. I know this is a long
shot, but I might get lucky.
Best regards......Ian in Sydney.
G'day Ian!
I looked for David Morgan in Census databases at Ancestry.com for both
1800 and 1810.
The first Federal Census in US was 1790-- but I seem to have menehune (
Haw'n little people) in my pc today, and couldn't access it.
There are 19 by that name for 1800, a total of about nine states which
were all on eastern seaboard, no surprise on that score. 1810 shows 22
David
MORGANs, usual states as before with a few new ones.
Do you have any additional info? What age was David at time he was
transported?
I may be able to track him down, with a little more family lore!
Aloha,
Victoria
Hello Sue
If your GGgrandmother was 81 in 1910 then:-
1) she must have been born about 1829 and have been about 44 when
daughter Elizabeth was born so probably there were several more children
born before Elizabeth - have you any information or ideas on them?
2) She therefore must be around for the 1901 and 1881 census.
If we can't find her - could she have re-married?
3) I had a look in the Cross Hands area of the Llannon census in 1901
and found an Elizabeth Morgans aged 72 she was a widow.
That was the good bit....
Then I looked for the family in the 1881 census and found she was
married to a David Morgan not William Morgan.
Back to square one again.
There was no other likely candidate with surname Morgan or Morgans.
Have you had a look for the possible Elizabeth Morgans on the 1837
website for birth index?
If you make a list of all the possibles in the Carmarthenshire area for
a year or two around 1873 and then try to eliminate them one by one by
tracking them in the census.
Last bit not least - do you have any ides of Elizabeth's mother's maiden
name? that might help a search for the marriage of Elizabeth and
William.
I have trawled through 1881 time after time and have no other
suggestions at the moment.
Cheers
Pat

Ian ,Hi
have you contacted The Morgan Society.?
I have had little dealings with them and I feel they are more concerned with
selling their wares but you might have a better experience. The say they
have the greatest data base on Morgan(s) and have certainly a wide book
section.
I seem to remember some DNAdiscussions going on.
My paternal family line is Morgan (s) which can present problems with
research .It 'salways worth looking up both Morgan and Morgans.
If I have any bright ideas will mail you.
Cheers,

Hi Pat
Bad news I am afraid on the birth Certificate - have asked both the
Camarthenshire Registrars and Llanelli Registrars both have come up with
nothing in CrossHands area, Llanelli have done a five year search plus a
check on the marriage of Elizabeth Morgans parents, would this mean
Elizabeth Morgans possibly was not born in Cross Hands? Have got a date of
1829 of Elizabeth's Morgans mother but that is all.
Pat the family you found the parents are too young unfortunately - as I
have seen a photograph of my GGGgrandmother with the year of 1910 aged 81.
Looks like I am back to the drawing board on this one do you have any
suggestions.
Regards
Sue

Hi Sue
We do not have meetings with Carmarthenshire FHS......we are solely on the
internet, and everything is done via this medium........so it does not
matter where in the World one lives, no one will be at a disadvantage, as we
have a members only list where we all 'chat' and exchange information, do
look-ups etc etc......and get to know one another....
For details go to our web site at
http://www.carmarthenshirefhs.co.uk
follow the links........we are taking membership now ready for Jan
2005........where we hope to have an even better year for members....
thanks for your interest......Pauline

Llandyfaelog, convicted of burgularly, and transported to America c. 1771.
Best regards....Ian in Sydney Australia.
Sue,
Did you get help with your Morgan and Richards request? If not, contact me off list and I will try and find these people for you in the 1891 census. Can't do 1901 census, but can do 1871 census, too.

Dear List,
I have just joined this list having traced my father's cousin Arthur
BIRDSALL (1895 - 1970) from Manchester last known date there 1954 to
Llandudno.
According to his death certificate he committed suicide 8 June 1970 at
Craig-y-Don?, Llandudno. There was an inquest by the North Caernarvonshire
Coroner on 2 July 1970.
I assume the Coroner's records are not available but that the inquest may
have been reported in the local newspaper(s). Would someone help me by
advising which papers covered the area at that time or identify another
source of a report of his death.
Many thanks,
Frank - Pennsylvania

Hi Pat
Many thanks - yes I found this one but not sure if is them or not it does
look promising though the date of Elizabeth Morgan fits.
I am going to obtain the birth certificate though to comfirm if Elizabeth
was born in Crosshands, Camarthenshire.
Thankyou for your help much appreciated.
