Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hello Pauline - As new to this list as I am, I have found that questions are
answered very, very quickly - but I must say I didn't think they would get
answered quite that quickly!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As to the weather - well perhaps questions answered faster than the speed of
light has something to do with our "damp" climate perhaps the rain helps to
transport the messages through (after all the slugs love it!) - or there
again it may just be due to the extremely kind and helpful folks on this
list. Cheers Gwyn

Hi

Pauline - Fed up of this weather that we are having!!!! Where is our sunshine??
Hello Elwyn
I'm not sure what you mean by "no results" Do you mean you couldn't
find a chapel - or that the records didn't have the burial info you
needed?
The chapel in Star village, Clydey is a baptist chapel called Soar.
If you couldn't find anything about it at all maybe it was because you
looked for a chapel name of Star??
On the map there is a graveyard nearby - but then there are lots of
graveyard in the area.
Bert Rawlin's book links record information to Blaenffos, Castellan
which also has a graveyard nearby - but the records available gives a
link to Cilfowryr, Manordeifi parish. That shows quite a lots of records
held in NLW (National Library of Wales)
However I would be tempted. if I were you, to do a tour of the area,
with a map, looking in all the graveyards - that is the only way I found
some of my family and there are stil some missing.
They are not always buried where you might expect.
By the way - id you don't know where Star village is you can out Star in
the search criteria at
http://www.multimap.com/
and you can see Star and nearby Blaenffos
Hope some of this will give you some food for thought.
All for now
Pat

Hi Barrie
Looking at the baptisms this is what is given
1801 John son of David Hugh - taylor
1806 Ann dau David Hugh - towyn bach
1808 Charles son David Hugh - towyn bach
I have not given the dates as you already have them....
Were there any children by the second marriage? Where were they living ?
I cannot find a marriage to correspond with the information we have.....the
one I can find is
1798 25th Sept Llanelly parish church
David Hugh parish Pembrey and Margarett Thomas Llanelly
I have checked the burials but cannot find one for Margarett.......in either
Llanelly or Pembrey.
I'll take this information with me to CRO, and view the originals for
you.....
Pauline - still raining in dull Llanelli.......where is the 'Sun'

Hi Barrie
Occupations or names of wife were not given on the early Pembrey
baptisms.....the information on the index, is exactly what was written on
the register.
I have noticed one thing re the baptisms and burials you mentioned..
baptism
1771 3rd March - David Hugh son John
1771 5th Aug - David Hugh son Thomas
burial
1772 29th April David son John
1786 31st March - David son Thomas
in the later burials there are two Thomas Hugh being buried in Pembrey
churchyard within a year of each other, namely 1834 and 1835....both aged
76.....Why did they not give ages in the early registers, it would have made
life that much easier to find them..
So we know that there were two Thomas Hugh at the same time in Pembrey
parish.....so perhaps the burial in 1786 is the young son of Thomas......not
the one baptised in 1771.....
I'm confused now!!!
I'll see what I can find for you....and see if I can work it out....
speak soon Pauline

Hi Elwyn
I can see in your reply to Pat that you mention that ALL three wives are
named on the headstone of his second wife?? Would you give us the
information from this, as this may help locate them....
If Timothy Evans had a headstone and is buried in one of the chapels in
Pwll, I cannot find it....
thanks Pauline

Hi Pat,
Do not know where to look.Searched also for Star Chapel,Clydau, but no results.

First wife Elisabeth Evans died in 1854, then Newgate Pwll.
Second wife Ann Evans, buried at Pwll with one child.
Names of all three wifes on her headstone.Mary Evans died in 1910 at Thomas Terrace, Pwll,19 years later then her husband Timothy in 1891.Strane that we cannot find the first and last wife!

Hi Pauline,
As you know I've been in the unfortunate position of having
two David Hughs born in the same year in Pembrey parish, and trying to find
the right one has been a nightmare, to say the least!!
However, I have noticed that one David Hugh had the following children: John
b.1801, Margaret b.1803, Ann b.1806 and Charles b.12th April 1808. Would it
be possible to check the christening records of Charles Hugh to see if his
father David is shown as a tailor.

Elsie,
At last a response, your apology is accepted!
Thanks is a small word, but it means a great deal!
You may well think that my response garbage, I am sorry, but I had hoped
that the list of Census Dates was the information you required.
Are you not aware that you can purchase 1841, 1851 and 1861 Glamorgan Census
from the GFHS?
Anyway onto more pleasant things:
A few years ago a book called "Top Sawyer" by Ivor Thomas was published, see
details below. It was the story of David Davies, who from humble beginnings
became a man of means and influence.
The top sawyer was the man who operated the top handle of a saw pit, a
position that required skill, strength and stamina.
Top Sawyer, A Biography of David Davies of Llandinam
Dyfed Wales: Golden Gorse, 1988. As New/Fine Not Price Clipped.
First Thus. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A crisp copy with pages white and
silk tie. Dustwrapper has some wrinkling of the laminate on the spine and my
guess is that this was a publishers return as the copy appears unread. No
loss rubbing or tears to wrapper. David Davies became one of Wales Greatest
men by hard work and a good eye for costing. Became a millionaire and an
M.P. for Cardiganshire. An industrialist ( 1818-1890 ) who started life as a
Saw-Pit labourer and eventually was knighted by Queen Victoria.
TOP SAWYER : A BIOGRAPHY OF DAVID DAVIES OF LLANDINAM
London: Longmans Green and Co. 1938. First Edition. Very Good book
in poor wrapper. Pages surprisingly white and bright. Hardback. 356 pages.
20 b/w plates. David Davies became one of Wales Greatest men by hard work
and a good eye for costing. Became a millionaire and an M.P. for
Cardiganshire. An industrialist (1818-1890) who started life as a Saw-Pit
labourer and eventually was knighted by Queen Victoria.
Hope that you find this information useful.
Adrian
To begin at the beginning....................
For those that missed the recent BBC World Service - http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/index.shtml radio transmission of Under Milk Wood, it is still possible to listen to the play.
On the BBC World Service page, in the search field (top right), type "under milk wood" site and key onto the "Play of Week" icon.
You will need to load REALONE PLAYER software to receive BBC radio programmes.
Adrian
Hi Pauline
Thanks for your search.Mary Evans was Timothy's third wife!! She lived up till 1910 at Thomas Terrace,Pwll.
His second wife Ann Evans is buried at Bethlehem together with one son.Have a photo of this headstone. First wife Elisabeth Evans died in 1854, family just moved to Newgate,Pwll. So still think they must all be buried in the neigbourhood of Bethlehem.
regards
Elwyn.
Hi
Is there anyone with any information on WILLIAM JONES who married SUSANNAH OWEN in Llandabie 1st April 1803/4 in Llanabie trying to work out if they are the parents of my brickwal SUSANNAH JONES born 18 April 1806
Thanks Althea
Hi Pauline,
yes you looked for Timothy Evans at Pwll, but no sign.Think he must have had a stone, as he was a stonemason himself! Please have a look if Mary Evans is there in 1910.
Timothy came from Cilgerran and his wife from Whitechurch,Pembrokeshire. No results in Clydau records, the place where they were married in 1834.Could have been baptists.
Elwyn.
Who was looking for a John Hughes who was transported to Australia in the 1840's.......
I have just read a piece in a book that I was browsing through today....
I'm sure someone was asking, or is my mind playing overtime.....or did we in fact give the information at the time..
It's all this rain again, blocking out the much needed sunshine to rejuvinate us..........
Pauline
Hi Elwyn
What about "Mary" his third wife?? Do you know where she was buried?
Alternatively one possibility for his burial place would be where he
came from originally - I've found that happens when wives and husbands
are not in the same grave.
Looking back at the various census although the birthplace name changes
they are all in the area of the Pembrokeshire/Cardiganshire/Carmarthensh
ire border area around or near Cilgerran.
What do you think?
Pat
