Hello, I am new to the list and am looking for a connection to the family of
Owen Morgan who lived in the parish of Llanarthney. In the marriage
register of that parish is recorded the marriage for Owen MORGAN and Mary
JONES who were married by Banns on 22 March 1837. They had three children
who lived to adulthood; William, John and Ann. William and John emigrated to
the US but Ann stayed in the area in Wales and married Thomas Jones. They
had the following children: William, John, Daniel, Ann, Elizabeth, Rachel.
Owen Morgan died of cholera aged 35 on 10 September 1849 at Bankcornicill,
Llanarthney and his wife, Mary Morgans aged 56, died on 29 May 1865 at
Bankcornicill. Mary is buried at Carmel Baptist Church in the village of
Carmel. The inscription reads " In memory of Mary wife of Owen Morgan
Bancyllyn, of the parish of Llanarthney who died May 29 1865, 56 yrs old.
Also Mary her daughter who died May 17, 1860 12 years old.
I am trying to find out who the parents of Owen Morgan were as well as who
were the parents of Mary Jones. Does anyone have any information about these
families that will be of help to me?
Thanks for your time
Gwen
I also argee about the problems future generations will have, my own

I agree with you Janie, researching my family in the Bristol area in the

moves they made. I still think that my own might take some beating though!

Hi Pauline.
I am over the moon, your suggestion to keep asking the lists for help on the
same problem is paying of.
The brick wall keeping the Evans family from me is now coming down.
If you recall I have been looking for Henry, the father of William Evans
born May 1861 Mountain Ash, the problem was there was no census for Mountain
ash for the 3 Rows in 1861, finally the answer is there it was named Pen Rhiw
Pennar, in Cefn Pennar Hamlet, Henry and wife Elizabeth, but can't find
William Evans 40 born Llanstephan or wife Ann 32 born Llangain or Pembroke in
1861.
So once again I am hoping some new info has been uncovered, and just mabe
William and Ann are still in Carmarthenshire, OR, have they gotten themselves
lost moving from Carmarthenshire to Glamorganshire during the census.
Any advise please.

Hello again
Have today received a newspaper cutting from the Cambrian indexing project
with my 3 x great grandfather JAMES Davies's obituary listed , 3 February
1850 Swansea.
This item has solved a long outstanding question " Who did James work for as
a legal clerk/writer"?
I now know it was a solicitor called MR WHITTAKER from Laugharne.
Does anyone recognise this gentleman? Did he also practice in Carmarthen
Town?
I suppose this may be why the family left St Peter's area for Laugharne in
the 1840s - to work for the above person.
A few other names that appear on the same page as my extract:
Marriage of Wm. James, Mynyddyslwyn to Ann Jones of Carmarthen - 7th Feb
Marriage at Mothvey Church, Carmarthenshire Rev James Clancy to Barbara
Elizabeth Ellerton - no date
Died -
13th feb John Jenkins Esq. surgeon of Carmarthen
2 nd feb Charles Henry H Harris clerk to R Gardnor Esq. Carmarthen
Thanks
Cathy
researching Goulstone, Davies and the odd Lewis!
First I would like to thank Pauline James for putting information on about William Dudley and the Golden Lion.
Yesterday I received the marriage certificate for William DUDLEY, full age, Bachelor, Tin roller, ____ cottages, Father William DUDLEY, Pickler and Ann Griffiths, minor, Spinster, Island Home/House, Father David GRIFFITH, Farmer. Married Parish Church after Banns on 27 December 1849. Witnesses Thomas GRIFFITH and John EVAN.
Children of William and Ann DUDLEY that I have found are
William DUDLEY born 1851 Brierly Hill, Staffordshire married 1874 at Llanelly to Margaret RODERICK
John DUDLEY born 1853 Llanelly, married 1873 at Llanelly to Gertrude WAY
Sarah Ann DUDLEY born abt 1857 (Ystalyfera according to Census records)
Mary Jane DUDLEY born 1859 Llanelly
Elizabeth DUDLEY born 1861 Llanelly
Caroline DUDLEY born 1863 Llanelly
Rosanna DUDLEY born abt 1866 Llanelly (birth record not found)
Ellen DUDLEY born 1871 Llanelly died 1871 Llanelly
Ann DUDLEY died at Market Street on 15 Oct 1872, aged 43 years (Where would she be buried?)
William DUDLEY died at Rogerstone Monmouth on 30 Oct 1875 aged 47 years (son John from Llanelly being the informant. (Where is he likely to be buried?)
Ann was born in Llanelly on all the records found so far and William was born at Bilston, Staffordshire.
All surviving children of William and Ann DUDLEY immigrated to South Australia on four different occasions between the years of 1876 and 1882.
I am interested on any information on the DUDLEY family as they appear to be the only DUDLEY family living at Llanelly for some time.
I have had the 1841, 1861 and 1871 Census films in. Also found information on the 1881 Census.
>From the census records I know that Ann had a brother Thomas born abt 1826 Llanelly, Carpenter married by 1871 to Catherine.
And a brother William born abt 1836 Llanelly, Clergyman Curate of llanelly Church (1871 Census) married to Ellen born Manchester, Lancashire.
Known children for William and Ellen GRIFFITHS
Florence born abt 1872 Llanelly
Gwendoline born abt 1873 Hainsham, Denbigh, Wales
Wilfred born abt 1874 Leigh, Lancashire
William H born abt 1876 Longnor, Staffordshire
Arthur born about 1878 Beaumaris, Anglessey, Wales
Llewellyn born 1881, Pembrey, Carmarthen
I would love to know which David GRIFFITH/S was the father of Thomas, Ann and William.
Chris, New Zealand
Pauline, could you find this family possibly from 1841 census for my gr-grandfather,
David Isaac Williams, born Dec. 22, 1840, Gwernogle, in Llanfihangle Rhos-y- Corn
parish,
Carmarthen.
His father was also born at Gwernogle, per David I. Williams’ Death Certificate, but it
did
not name him. Another source indicates his father may possibly be John Williams. I
assume his
parents were farmers. That is all of the information I have.
Armed with with little information, researching a surname of WILLIAMS is not going to be
an
easy task.
Thank you! Anything you find will be appreciated.

Hello Chantel,
Will check out on above over weekend as I know the area and people well.
I dont know how much info you have on family there, but I know already that I
will find a Samuel - Stonuary connection there.
Best Regards Allen in misty Aberavon
Hello all,
Just a short message to say thank for your all responses to my STONUARY
query. The information that you have provided both on- and off- the mailing
list has been most informative. I will continue to look into it.
Best wishes,
Chantel
Hi
If you recall I am researching the name STONEHEWER, I believe that Elizabeth
Stonuary is related to my line somehow, in fact I am in contact with someone
else who believes that he is related to Elizabeth Stonuary.
This is part of what he wrote.
"I am researching a Daniel Stone who married an Elizabeth Morgan (widow) nee
William, at Meidrim, Carms., in June 1803. I am unable to find out anything
more of this man prior to this. However, some of his descendants have been
recorded as Stonnay, Stonnary and Stonewary, which suggests to me that the
original name was longer than Stone. Recently, I found out that in 1851, a
woman named, Elizabeth Stoneyware, who is undoubtedly the same lady as the
above, was living at 31, Blaenpant, Meidrim. She was said to be 70 years of
age and the widow of an agric. lab.".
If Chantel contacts me off list I'll give her the details, in the meantime,
if anyone has any information regarding Daniel Stone, I can pass it on - you
never know, it could help me too!
Regards
Debbie

Thank you to everyone who has sent best wishes to Sarah after her appendix
operation......
She is now back home (as I am too) but has to rest for a couple of weeks to
get her strength back., which means no school for a while....
She went in on Monday, had the operation on Tuesday, and we were both back
home on Thursday evening....It was tiring because the first two nights I
slept on the chair next to her bed, but on the third night I had a
bed....although trying to sleep in hospital is not the easiest tasks to
perform, Richard of course had to travel back and forth to Carmarthen each
day and stay for a few hours.....we will try to catch up now....
Thank you all again, and she is on the mend.....
regards
Pauline and Richard

Hello all,
I received my Great-Great-Grandmother's birth certificate in the mail
today. It lists her mother as Elizabeth SAMUEL, formerly STONUARY. My
question is, has anybody ever heard of this surname or variations? I found
it most unusual.
As a bit of back information, according the the 1851 and 1881 Census,
Elizabeth was born circa 1830 in Meidrim, Carmarthen. However, I just
checked the 1901 Census, and it lists her birthplace as Llangors,
Carmarthen. Elizabeth married John SAMUEL circa 1850. The couple
and their children lived in Michaelstone-Super-Afan, Glamorgan.
Any details on the origins of the surname STONUARY would be
greatly appreciated.
Best wishes,
Chantel
Having been in college in the infamous 60's, I was REALLY curious about
